Chapter Four : First Encounter
First Encounter
The young lady widened her eyes as if Edward just produced a rhinoceros from his pocket . There was a moment when her face washed blank with shock , like her brain cogs couldn't turn fast enough to take in the information from her wide eyes . It takes a second or two for the new information to sink in even though it is right before her eyes.
This guy is committing suicide.
" Hey You ! , get down now !!" I couldn't leave him do that to himself , even if it's the best solution. He had no clue what I was saying ,but thank God I reached here in the right time .
Ed got off the roof looking at her like he had seen a ghost. He tried to hide his shock however he failed miserably. Edward tried to swallow and talk at the same time , but ended up choking on his confusion. He watched her in astonishment as she climbed his building's roof easily like she had done it before. Then he saw her , head tilted back , eyes closed. The black-haired girl was just dancing spinning arms outstretched as if she was absorbing the whole world. He stood around her trying to drink her vivacity , but as he watched her it was clear that she was enjoying herself.
" Are you for real ? " Ed had to ask that question. For a second he was questioning her presence.
The girl laughed. It's a sound that Edward hasn't heard in a thousand years and a sound he would wait another thousand to hear.
" What will prove to you that I am real ? " She was questioning his sanity but he loved every bit of it.
" a hug " he challenged her.
She walked up to him slowly and pulled him closer to her , wrapping her arms around him. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close, gently rubbing her arm. Despite the heaviness in her stomach, it fluttered at the feeling of her body pressed against his. She sunk into the warmth of his side, appreciative of the simple gesture. His embrace was warm, and his big, strong arms seemed very careful when wrapped around her fragile body. The world around them melted away as Edward squeezed her back, not wanting the moment to end.
She is real , Edward thought .
Within seconds , he pulled away his mind swam with happiness that he is not dead. Nevertheless he was blown away by appearance, just like a fierce canvas. Her hair shone like the sea at night. Hair so black against skin so white isn't expected in these parts. The shock and the contrast only serve to make her all the more ghostly, all the more haunting. Dark-hair so thick, cascading down her delicate skin like midnight waves on a sandy beach.
When she turns to look at him her eyes are like smoke ; grey and full of heat. They glistened brightly, cold and metallic. Her eyes were grey, not a dull, unremarkable grey like that of concrete or stone. They were the grey of the last ashes on a fire, tossed up on the breeze; the grey of a pigeon's wing, soft as down; the grey of the ocean an instant before dawn's first rays strike the water. The curly-haired guy was stuck by their coldness , like a stab of ice. Every detail in her iris so clear, so concise. For his lack of words, she was like a piece of art that nobody could understand, leaving everyone who stared confused uncomprehending.
It was the grey that flash of metal hitting the bright rays of the sun. It was like a hatch had opened in her eyes and the color had fallen out, leaving her eyes to look like the dazzling and breath-taking snow, or the sparkling diamond. It was the type of grey that women wished would grow out of their heads. They were pure , they were cold , and they were beautiful.
The mysterious girl stepped away from Ed walking unusually slowly, almost robotically, as if her brain was struggling to tell each foot to take the next step. The wind ran its icy fingers through her hair as she grinned through chapped lips. She was where she wanted to be.
" Ya know , suicide is not the best solution " The words tumbled slowly and cautiously out of her mouth, each one wrapped in a heavy voice. They seemed to have echoed from the roof of her mouth, spreading their warmth everywhere. When she spoke her words were so clear, clearer than clear water. It was this speech, this heavy accent of her that immediately set her apart from everyone else, that made her seem as different as she was and that too in a good way.
" If you want to live you should Let go of what is holding you back. Let go of the hurt and pain . Learn to forgive yourself , there is more to life than just being depressed "
She was talking carelessly ; like she doesn't give a damn about anything . " If you knew the pain inside of me . . If you really knew what it feels like to feel dead when you're still breathing you . . you wouldn't say that with ease " His voice sounded more pained than anything.
" Then choose now , choose to live miserably probably. . . the rest of your life or choose to be happy . Choose to let go of the pain. Choose to be free and liberate yourself from the pain"
" The choice is yours buddy "
Her eyes were a window to her soul. Her sadness was like a flowing river, cold and unending. It washed all the goodness out of her and left her a mere shell of what she had once been.
They are so much alike , both of them their hearts ache in corners they didn't know that they even existed. Both of them live in a place so dark , the sun cannot find them so is the sound and the scents. A silent dimension were all they've got is their thoughts , false words and promises. They were stuck , paralyzed in sorrow and pain until they reached the bottom of the ocean.
