-Chapter Eight-
Snyder slowed in the woods already rather deep. But he knew that he was still a ways away from his destination. Not to mention he only had a general idea as to where to go. But the horses were tired and he halted getting off. Hezelwiggins noticed popping his head out.
"What in the hooters are you doing?! Have you gone rat nuts?!", yelled Hezelwiggins.
"The horses are tired, they need to rest, even I need to, we've traveled the entire day and night prior to that", said Snyder.
"Their watching us", whispered Hezelwiggins lower his head slowly into the pouch.
Snyder turned not seeing anything. Then it blinked. Several blinked. Snyder jolted as there was a threatening low growl coming from behind him. He froze though stock still swallowing. Synder's heart pounded and he moved his hand slowly up to his belt to pull his knife.
"I swear if you intend to use that on me it won't work", warned Reverend with crossed arms and leaned against a pine tree.
"Good god! Reverend you startled me!", snapped Snyder.
"I know, but I wasn't trying scare you", said Reverend glaring.
Another warning and more menacing sound came from her throat and then there was whimpering from the trees and a few rustles as the wolves left frightened and intelligent enough to know their limits. Snyder stared at the tree line.
"I hate wolves", muttered Reverend.
"Is there any reason as to-",
"They follow me", snapped Reverend.
Snyder furrowed his eyebrows together and then he noticed the little girl standing in front of Reverend. However, Reverend was keeping her distance carefully.
"Who is this?", asked Snyder.
Reverend shrugged, "I don't need to know", replied Reverend simply.
The farm girl flinched stepping back towards Reverend. Snyder to her was frightening. She didn't know why but.....Snyder was....more frightening than Reverend. Perhaps because she didn't know who Snyder was.
"Where'd you find her?", asked Snyder.
"Must you always ask questions?", asked Reverend.
The little girl kept stepping back but stumbled back into Reverend. The little girl felt Reverend tense immensely. Reverend glared at the girl who looked up at her fearfully.
"Who....who is he?", asked the girl.
Reverend was twitching. Her mouth was clenched down hard. Carrying the girl had been bad enough for her. But now the girl was still close to Reverend. Reverend was careful to push the girl back by the blanket so she wouldn't touch the fair child. But her hand snapped forward with unintended excessive force and the poor girl yelped falling forward.
Snyder caught the little girl, "What the hell is the matter with you Reverend?!", he shouted.
Reverend was gripping her right wrist again. It was always the first thing to react. Always the right hand. She was hissing and her fangs showing as she shook her grip tightening. It was taking all her might to hold herself back.
"You think this is easy!?", hissed Reverend.
"What the bloody hell do you mean!? You hunt vampires! Not humans!", yelled Snyder.
Reverend's head shot up and her hazel eyes glowed a eerie gold, "You think that it's natural for a vampire to hunt vampires!?", shouted Reverend.
"What in the world are you getting at?!", snapped Snyder.
"I bloody am supposed to drink human blood you fool!", raged Reverend.
"But you--!",
"I do that by choice!", hissed Reverend.
Snyder pushed the girl behind him carefully eyeing Reverend. "What do you mean choice?", asked Snyder.
"Bloody hell Snyder I choose not to drink human blood! It's that simple!", snapped Reverend shaking.
She leaned against a tree breathing and closed her eyes. Reverend was sweating already from her quarrel with her natural instincts. It was easier seeing Snyder in front of the girl. Though Reverend knew she could beat Snyder her natural conscience was debating whether it was worth it. Worth acting a full grown man.
"So you aren't........but you turn into a hoard of bats!", snapped Snyder.
"I'm the only vampire who can do it because I killed the rest off five thousand years ago", hissed Reverend.
"But...but the stories say you can bring humans back to life-"
"Stop! All those stories are true! But they only tell you half the tale! The rest is a bunch of over bloated exaggerations that the old man made up and spread everywhere! The difference between me and the other vampires is that I am the only one who recognized that I had a choice", said Reverend breathing.
Snyder stared as Reverend stood tensed and cramped even as she was holding herself away. "I'm going to get a bit off distance", said Reverend pushing off the pine tree and shot off disappearing.
"Reverend wait!", called Snyder.
"Putoots! It must suck being a vampire", sighed Hezelwiggins shaking his head.
Snyder sighed frustrated and shook his head and he walked away a bit hands on his hips. Reverend was a vampire? An actual vampire? Not a special breed or special thing....but just an ordinary vampire? Just an ordinary animal?
Snyder turned to the red headed girl who looked at him a bit afraid from all the shouting. But still she asked.
"Will she come back mister?", asked the girl.
