-Chapter Ten-

Snyder raised his head from the crackling fire which he was poking at. He heard something come this way. Something heavy. He stood tensed. The horses were also acting up. Not much, but they were alert. Snyder heard the sound come closer and his heart rate quickened. Snyder pulled his large silver knife standing ready and crept forward.

Snyder jolted as he saw something thrown towards him. It made a heavy thud and Snyder blinked. Reverend leaned against a tree again. Legs and arms crossed. She stared at Snyder through the light.

"I thought I told you that wouldn't work on me", said Reverend.

Snyder tensed raising the knife a bit higher. Snyder didn't know why he was doing that. Maybe it was because he knew now that Reverend was an actual vampire....and not....well....what else was she supposed to be?

"Tsch! Might as well eat it before it rots to waste", said Reverend turning on her heel walking a short distance off into the darkness of the woods and lay down arms behind her head and lay her hat on her face.

Snyder looked squinting and tilted his head. He couldn't see anything despite his enhanced vision. He looked at the carcus in front of him. He sighed and knelt down beginning to cut it into little bits. Snyder paused through turning the deer over. He swallowed seeing the tear marks and rips within the corpse. He raised his head looking towards the direction as to where Reverend had gone.

Snyder soon had the deer roast on an open fire which cracked and hissed as it cooked the slivers of meat. It had taken several hours. Close till after midnight. His intentions to sleep had been swayed off by his hunger and his worry for whatever else was out there in the woods. He glanced over seeing the small girl under a blanket and smiled. Hezelwiggins was cuddled up beside her eyes closed and he made little snoring cooing sounds as he slept. It was adorable and amusing.

Snyder turned looking off towards the direction as to where Reverend had gone. He sat there staring at the fire. He ran his fingers through his curly blonde hair which needed a wash. He looked at his finger nail and shrugged. Not like those would ever be clean out here in the woods.

Snyder sighed standing and took a piece of the roasting deer getting up and bit it.

Snyder walked forward away from the bright warmth of the fire. He continued.

"Reverend", he whispered. No response.

"Reverend", he repeated walking forward and looking around. His eyes scanned. Still though no response.

Snyder sighed, "Where in the bloody--!", Snyder slipped his foot falling loose in the wet dirt. He tumbled down rolling through the wet damp leaves and pine cones crunching under him. It wasn't a long roll nor steep but Snyder pulled his knife to halt himself only to have Reverend jolt up and smack him across the cheek with the back of her hand. Her heavy rings colliding with his skin.

Snyder was thrown back at the sudden force. "Aw! You bloody--!", Snyder turned groaning pushing himself up only to see Reverend standing. She stared at the large knife wedged in her palm.

Snyder heard her pull it out just barely seeing her figure in the darkness. He felt Reverend's glare. "Reverend", he repeated breathing.

"What?", asked Reverend shaking her hand setting his knife on the stone.

She examined it. The knife had gone all the way through. Fantastic. She shook her hand quickly hissing. "Even after seven thousand years pain doesn't get an easier to bare", she grumbled.

Snyder stood stumbling. His head was still spinning from the roll and fall down. Snyder raised his hand to his forehead and pulled it away as he felt it sting.

"Well what?", asked Reverend suddenly kneeling on one knee. She made an annoyed sound through her teeth and Snyder could see her two small sharp needles from the top peeking out from under her red lips. Snyder felt her fingers touch his cheek and tilt his head up and turn it to the side looking at the wound above his eyebrow.

"It's just a scratch", said Snyder.

Reverend grumbled muttering to herself, "I told him I didn't want to babysit and yet here I am playing the nanny".

Reverend stood and extended her hand. Snyder grabbed her wrist and Reverend hoisted him up with ease. Snyder shook his head raising his hand.

"I'm fine really", said Snyder.

He walked shaking his head. He stumbled over his feet groaning shaking his head. Snyder walked around Reverend. He began to climb back up slipping again.

Reverend sighed pulling Snyder back up only to throw his legs over her other arm.

"What are you-- put me down!", he snapped.

Reverend did but Snyder then noticed that he was suddenly back by the fire. He blinked and turned seeing Reverend go to the horses and rummage through the leather bag and pulled out a cloth and metal bowl.

Reverend was muttering to herself and complaining.

"I told him I didn't want to babysit and yet here I am playing the nanny", she grumbled.

Reverend filled the bowl with water and set it into the fire.

"Are you mad?!", snapped Snyder snatching Reverend's wrist. Reverend tore it away with forceful ease.

Reverend scoffed annoyed but didn't say anything. She just stared at the fire.

"You burned yourself, I'm not stupid", snapped Snyder.

"Man made fire doesn't burn me.... For long at least", said Reverend raising that hand and took off her hat setting it down.

Snyder stared as her burnt skin was reconstructing itself smoothing over.

"Daylight though.....light made from God...well that's a different story", said Reverend smirking.
