Chapter 11
Chapter 11
As we neared my motorcycle, I heard Chase groan behind my back. I laughed as I heard him complain about me not having a decent ride. Grabbing the helmet from the handle, I tossed it over to him and he caught it grudgingly. I watched in amusement as he pulled it over his head and secured the straps.
"Come on, it's not that bad."
"Not that bad? You nearly got us killed by going over the speed limit!" he exclaimed, and I rolled my eyes at his drama. I motioned for him to hop on the seat after me, and he did so.
I brought the engine to life and tied my hair up in a high ponytail before looking at him over my shoulder. "Don't worry, I won't go over the speed limit for your sake," I said with a smirk and looked back toward the front.
Just as I was about to make my way out, a shout from the other side of the parking lot caught my attention. I snapped my head towards where the shout came from and saw a rather annoyed Gregory revving the engine to his own motorcycle.
"Scratch that, hold on tight!"
If he was going to say something, I didn't let him as I saw that Gregory was starting to speed up his way to us. All I heard was a shriek the moment I turned the handle. Chase's arms went tight around my waist.
I concentrated on not getting us killed as Gregory was hot on our tails. The light ahead of us turned red and I cursed under my breath, quickly skidding to the right and taking a different route. I went over the speed limit, dashing through cars expertly—Gregory did the same a good distance away.
Once I reached the gym, I screeched to a halt and pushed Chase off the seat. "Run inside, now! Wesley won't let him in," I ordered him, and he nodded frantically.
I looked back to see Gregory was about to crash into me furiously, and—without a second thought—I sped off. The wind hit my face harshly, making my eyes dry up quickly. He was getting closer and closer, intent on crashing into me.
What was his problem?
I tried my best to keep my eyes open, studying the traffic as we reached another red light. Deciding to risk it all, I sped past the red light and did a drastic U-turn, nearly crashing into a car. The horns were being heard everywhere, but that didn't stop me from speeding against the traffic. I glanced over my shoulder momentarily, taking the chance that no cars were coming my way. Gregory screeched to a halt right before the red light, losing control of the bike and almost falling sideways.
I grinned in victory, switching to the correct side of the road and speeding back to the gym. As I approached it, I decided I would park my bike somewhere else since I was pretty sure my crazy ex-boyfriend would expect me at the gym. I found a good parking spot two buildings down and parked there, my breathing heavy as the adrenaline wore off. I let out a deep breath and placed a hand over my chest, my heart beating erratically.
Why would he chase me down and practically try to kill me? He was such a psychopath.
I hopped off the bike and walked toward the gym while stretching my arms over my head. Once I stepped foot inside the building, I was greeted by the fresh air conditioner, the smell of sweat, and Wesley's beautiful, booming voice.
"What the hell were you thinking, Amelia?" Wesley stomped toward me as Chase stood behind him, looking beyond panicked.
I stared at Wes, patiently waiting for him to stop throwing questions my way. After a minute, he stopped rambling. He had his arms crossed over his chest, clearly demanding answers.
I sighed and let my hair loose from the now messed up ponytail, detangling some knots with my fingers. "Gregory was furiously chasing us down and I had to bring Chase to safety. He was after me, anyways. If something happened, at least the nerd would have been safe," I said.
He narrowed his eyes for a moment before letting out a sigh and shook his head. He turned to Chase and patted his shoulder, smiling a little in amusement. "The poor guy was about to crap his pants when he dashed through that door," Wesley said.
"I am not riding a bike with you ever again," Chase said with a violent shake of his head. "I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes."
The adrenaline had completely worn off by now, and I felt a little lightheaded. That didn't stop me from glaring at him, though. "Don't come to me with that bull crap, Underwood. Gregory wouldn't have chased us down if you hadn't tried to be a hero back at the cafeteria. All I did was help you out and get you out of trouble. Instead of being a scaredy cat, you should at least be grateful that you got out of this unharmed."
He tensed up, and Wesley pulled me back softly. "Let the poor guy breathe, Lily. He's not you. He's not used to all this adrenaline and fighting thing. He's just in shock."
I sighed heavily and pinched the bridge of my nose, exhausted. I gave Chase a glance and shook my head. "You're free of your training today," I muttered and turned to look at Wesley. "Where are the keys?"
Wesley raised an eyebrow and took the keys out of his pocket, then tossed them in the air. I caught them easily and headed to the training room, not sparing another glance. I unlocked the door and turned the lights on before walking toward the lockers. Opening my locker, I pulled some comfortable clothes out then went to the changing room. In the middle of changing the crop top, I heard the door open. I turned around quickly, standing in my sports bra and ready to punch someone.
I was surprised when I came face to face with none other than the nerd himself.
His eyes widened when we made eye contact, and I raised an eyebrow. His sudden appearance didn't faze me. I was in a sports bra, after all. It amused me how his cheeks instantly flared up in mostly every situation. Chase covered his eyes in an instant and turned around, the tip of his ears a deep red. Luckily, he didn't look down at my body, so he didn't really see anything out of the ordinary.
My lips tugged up into a smirk as I threw on a sleeveless shirt and threw the other clothes inside a bag. I cleared my throat to let him know I was finished.
He jumped a little in place, scratching his head without turning back around. "I—I'm sorry, I didn't know y—you were changing here. I thought you were back at the running track since I saw that door open."
"Well, there's still something called knocking," I pointed out and walked past him, getting out of the changing room.
"There's still something called a lock," he shot back in a mutter.
I rolled my eyes, heading over to the yoga mats. "Little do you know that there's no lock on that door." I scoffed. "What are you doing here, anyways? Go home."
He stayed silent, so I decided to ignore him. I started stretching in silence, well aware of his burning gaze on me. Once I finished stretching, I walked over to the speaker and brought it to life, instantly blasting my music. I nodded my head to the rhythm as I wrapped some bandages around my knuckles. Once I was sure they were secured, I jogged over to a punching bag that was next to the exercising equipment and took a deep breath.
Gregory's face flashed through my mind, and that was all it took for me to throw the first punch. I watched as the punching bag rattled and jerked back as soon as it took the impact. I threw punch after punch—each one growing fiercer the more I saw Gregory's face. I gritted my teeth in anger, feeling the growing ache on my knuckles and wrist.
Chase tapped my shoulder, and in the blink of an eye, I turned to face him. Due to my current anger, I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and glared up at him. "Answer me something, nerd." I spat. "Why did you accept this training? There are things far worse than someone chasing you down."
He blinked in surprise as I held his shirt tightly, ignoring my aching hands. I watched as his mouth opened and closed like a fish right out of the water. He struggled to find an answer and I continued to glare at him, becoming impatient already.
He scratched the tip of his nose nervously and stared back at me with innocent eyes before finally answering. "I don't really know why." He sighed.
I huffed and pushed him, making him fall back. I shook my head and wiped some sweat off my forehead before throwing one last punch to the punching bag.
Chase stood from the ground, wiped his backside from any dirt, and just stood there. I reached inside my back pocket and faced him. He tilted his head to the side, his shoulders becoming tense as he awaited my next move. Glaring at him, I took hold of my pocket knife, quickly flicking it open, and threw it in his direction without any hesitation.
