Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The door to the training room barged open as Wesley stormed inside. His eyes instantly met mine in a judgmental way before he stomped over to me with an accusing finger. I watched in amusement as his face turned red once he reached me, staring me down. Raising an eyebrow, I waited for him to open his mouth and say whatever he wanted to.
"You said Friday, not Wednesday. Hand over the keys, Lily," he ordered, narrowing his eyes.
I raised my arms in mock surrender and pointed to where they were thrown on the ground. He went to get them, then noticed Chase. I crossed my arms over my chest as I looked at him as well.
"What did you do?"
"I was just practicing," I said innocently.
He gave me a bored expression, clearly not believing my little lie. When his eyes met something that was behind Chase, he groaned, "Amelia, what did I tell you about knife throwing?" Wesley exclaimed after picking up the keys. He went to turn the speaker off and crossed his arms. "If you're going to teach him that, take it outside. I don't want any furniture damaged thanks to you."
"Sorry, Wes. I guess it kind of slipped," I said with an innocent smile and looked down at Chase. "Get up, nerd. There's no need for you to be over-dramatic."
Chase stared at me with an expression of pure terror before he scurried to a sitting position. I chuckled when I saw him patting down his body, searching for any kind of cut or wound. Once he made sure he was alright, his eyes shifted to the pocket knife stuck on a wooden target a few feet away from him. "You could've killed me!" he exclaimed, and I heard Wesley sigh beside me.
"I wasn't aiming at you, smart-ass." I chuckled. "Plus, I have no intention of killing you. Yet."
Chase opened and closed his mouth like a fish, stuttering over his own words as he tried to make a sentence. Wesley chuckled under his breath and walked over to the wooden target then grabbed the knife. Grabbing a towel, I patted my face dry of sweat before draping it over my shoulder. Wesley walked over to me and handed me back my pocket knife while I watched Chase walk toward the changing room, muttering things under his breath.
"Fun's over," Wesley said as I placed the knife inside my back pocket. His eyes narrowed in the slightest as he stared at me, as if he was analyzing something. I was starting to get a little creeped out, to be honest. He then went over to a mini fridge at the corner of the room and grabbed a water bottle. "Want one?"
"Yes, please," I said with a sigh. I stretched my arms over my head as I heard him approach from behind. Turning around in order to grab the bottle, I started muttering a "thank you" before I was cut short by the cold water splashing over my face. I closed my eyes in instinct and my mouth hung open as the water ran down my chin to my chest. A towel was thrown on my face and I felt a hand scrubbing rather harshly, making me grit my teeth and push it away.
"What the hell, Wesley?"
"Who was it?" he demanded. I was dumbfounded by his question, still confused if he was joking or not. "Don't make me use your second name, Amelia. Who did you fight?"
"What are you talk–?"
"You have bruises all over your jaw, Lily. Plus, you don't wear that foundation thingy unless you're covering up your bruises," Wesley said, and that was when it hit me.
Right, the bruises, I totally forgot about them. I covered them up before heading over to the school since they got darker overnight.
"It's nothing, honestly. They're the ones I got after I fought with Gregory two days ago," I brushed it off. Grabbing the towel from his hands, I turned around and started walking to the lockers. Wesley's hand tugged my shirt up and I smacked it away before glaring at him.
Of course, he got to see my bruised side just in time. He turned me around, his hard gaze staring deep into mine.
I decided to ignore him and headed back to the lockers. I grabbed some dry clothes and my boots to go and change. Just as I was walking to the changing room, the door opened, and Chase stepped out.
I was about to enter until Wesley's voice stopped me. "We both know that Gregory never aims for the side," he stated, clearly not believing anything I said.
Cursing under my breath, I pinched the bridge of my nose before heaving out a long sigh. "I said it's nothing," I said through clenched teeth. Just as he started calling me by my second name, I glared at him. "Just drop it already, Wesley! I'm sick of your questioning."
Chase was staring at us curiously and rather uncomfortably.
I was a wet and angry mess. That was enough to have me in a very bad mood after what happened earlier. Wesley and I stayed silent, staring each other down.
After about a minute or so, Chase decided to speak up to break the ice, "I-Is everything alright here?"
"Perhaps we're having a 'who could get angrier' contest," I answered sarcastically.
When he noticed the bruises, he frowned a bit and started looking concerned. I ran a hand through my slightly tangled hair, looking away from him.
"Amelia...what happened?" he asked softly.
I chuckled dryly and offered a sarcastic smile, still not looking at him. "Not the pretty face you're used to seeing, nerd?" was my response. I walked into the changing room, leaving tension behind me. Whatever was left of conversation instantly died down as I changed out of my wet clothes.
Curse Wesley and his skeptical eye.

The buzzing of the crowded hallways welcomed me as I stepped foot inside the school corridors. Somehow, I kept coming back to this place, regardless of how much trouble it brought me. I watched in amusement as Danielle came rushing toward me while dragging a flustered Kenneth behind her. Once she reached me, she let go of his wrist and engulfed me in a bear hug. I laughed and ignored the slight pain it brought me, hugging her back.
"I've missed you so much!"
"You're being dramatic, Dan. It's only been two days," I said with an eye roll and greeted Kenneth with a nod.
"I know, I know." She chuckled.
"Hey, did you hear?" Kenneth started. "There's a new transfer student."
"Kenny, I was the one supposed to tell her!" Danielle huffed as we started making our way toward my locker. I raised an eyebrow at her as I opened the lock and watched as she placed her hands on her hips. I chuckled as Kenneth rolled his eyes and Danielle turned her attention back to me. "Apparently, she's coming from a private school. The reason as to why she transferred is still unknown."
"Not for long," I mused and stuffed my bag with my math books.
"You just returned from your suspension, Lily. We don't want you expelled this time," Kenneth commented as he ruffled my hair.
I smiled innocently at him. "No need to worry about that, Kenny."
"Don't use that nickname, please. You both know I hate it," he groaned and stuffed his face in the crook of Danielle's neck, making her giggle.
I feigned a gag and turned away from them, waving my hand in the air dismissively. "And that is my cue to leave. See you guys in history," I called over my shoulder and made my way to the infamous Mr. Orwell's classroom. The bell rang just as I stepped foot inside. I threw my bag beside my seat and placed myself comfortably on the whining chair.
Who would've known that the sweet teacher would give me the worst possible chair in the classroom? I would surely have.
At the very thought of the devil himself, he strode inside the classroom. His eyes instantly found mine and I crossed my legs over the desk absentmindedly, grinning in satisfaction when his jaw visibly clenched. He narrowed his eyes at me and looked at his seat warily, inspecting the whole area before cautiously sitting down. I snickered, and a few classmates turned to look at me with amused expressions.
"Alright. Open your books on page one hundred and ninety-three. I want you to resolve all the problems from one to ten, without skipping any process. I will personally check every single detail myself," Mr. Orwell spoke up, his tone defiant as his eyes met mine once again.
I grabbed my book from my bag and opened it on the said page. Once I eyed the problems, I snorted, making the teacher glare at me from his desk. Deciding to have a little fun, I opened my notebook and wrote down the problems. I easily resolved every single one of them in seven minutes and yawned loudly, probably angering him.
But the teacher ignored me, so I stood up from my seat and walked lazily toward his desk, throwing my notebook on top of his newspaper. "Couldn't you give me something more, I don't know, challenging?" I asked, my tone dripping with boredom and amusement at the same time. "As far as I know, we're seniors. Not sophomores."
I could hear people snickering and others groaning, probably begging for me to shut up. Mr. Orwell looked at me with hard eyes and slapped his hands against his desk. I stood there, unfazed by his sudden actions while a few classmates yelped in surprise.
What a perfect way to get on his nerves.
"So, you think you're a genius, Amelia?" he asked, his tone bitter. "Alright, I've had enough of you. You want a challenge, so go to the principal's office right now!"
"Why, thank you, Mr. Orwell. You have done me a great favor. You don't know how much I've missed Mr. Morris these past few days," I mused and walked towards my seat; my notebook long forgotten. I threw my book back inside my bag and draped it over my shoulder, walking out of the classroom without a single worry.
