Chapter 2
Standing on the balcony at four o'clock in the morning was nothing something most people did. This, however, had become normal for me. At this time, the sun was just barely beginning to show itself, and there was silence for as far as the ear could hear. At this time, my dreams were only slightly cloudy, and my nightmares seemed like they would never fade, even though by the time the sun rose, they were gone. I wrote everything down in my Memory Book, even if I had already written it before. Everything was put on paper in hopes that one day, the pieces would fall together. For the past month or two, I had written in the journal every morning and every night. I closed the notebook, having poured what I remembered on to the pages. It was the same thing as always; pain, love, and fire. I sighed and closed my eyes, breathing in the fresh air. I smiled slightly. The smile was ripped from my face when I felt the book leave my lap. My eyes flew open in time to see Sonic jump over the railing onto a tree.
"Jerk! Give that back!" I shouted, leaping to my feet. Sonic leaned against the trunk leisurely and opened the book.
"'Memory Book, property of Silver the Hedgehog.'" He read. I narrowed my eyes at him and lunged for the book, but he was too fast. He was on the ground, still holding my book. I jumped down after him, using my powers to slow the fall. I held my hand out for the book. Sonic started handing it towards me, then he yanked it away again.
"Aw, but Silver, it looks so interesting!" The blue hedgehog teased with a smirk. He flipped open a page and held it out in front of him, clearing his throat before he began to read. "'A creature called Iblis, fire everywhere.'" I yelled at him and tried to take the book again, but Sonic just laughed and jumped back out of the way.
"Come on, Silver, you'll have to be quicker than that!" I lunged once more, and he dashed away. I fell forwards into a puddle of muddy water. Glowering, I got to my feet and attempted to wipe myself off. Sonic laughed again.
"Very smooth! Then again, you always have been a klutz!" I was trembling slightly, my anger rising.
"Give me back my book, Sonic." I growled. Sonic dashed up to me and smirked.
"Nah." Then he ran around me in circles, moving the book in my direction, then pulling it away again, laughing and shouting jeers. I knew he was just bored and looking for something to entertain himself with, but... I let out a cry of anger.
"I SAID GIVE IT BACK!" I screamed. Sonic was lifted into the air and thrown against the ground. I picked him up again with my powers and shoved outwards with my hands. Sonic was blasted backwards with a wave of psychic energy. He slammed right into a rock, causing it to crack. He groaned in pain and laid his head back on the rock. I walked up to him and snatched the book back. Sonic laughed slightly, his eyes closed, a hand against his back.
"Not bad for a dumbass." He told me, spatting slightly. He was angry that I had hurt him, that I had gotten the better of him. I didn't care, though. Sonic knew that I wasn't messing around anymore. I huffed a laugh and crouched down next to him, using my powers to keep him pressed against the rock.
"Cross me again, and you'll be a deadman." I threatened. Sonic opened and eye and smirked at me.
"Oh yeah? You going to kill me, Silver?" He teased me, sounding unworried. My smirk seemed to catch him off guard. I opened the book I had taken back from him to a more recent page and pointed to the line I was referring to.
"I've almost done it twice before, and neither times it was you that stopped me." I informed him darkly. His boastful grin turned slightly wary and his eyes lost the shine they had had in them before. My smirk turned into a scowl and I put a finger on Sonic's chest. "You keep pushing and pushing, Sonic, and you know what?" I growled, jabbing his chest every time I said 'pushing.' He grinned at me.
"One of these days, Silver, you're gonna break." He replied calmly with an air of indifference. I released him from my psychokinesis and he stood up, back to normal. He began to walk away. He paused at me shoulder.
"I look forward to that day. It's been pretty boring here lately." He admitted. He gave me a wink then dashed off, his signature laugh ringing in my ears. I clenched my fist and took deep breaths, my eyes closed. Not yet...I can't break...not yet. I opened my eyes again and a slightly evil grin spread across my face.
"I look forward to that day as well, Sonic. The day where I will show you just how weak you are. I will show what I can do, I will show how helpless you are to stop it." I may not remember who I was in the past, but until I learned, this was who I was, and who I was going to be. And if that was what it would take to keep me sane...so be it.
