Chapter 5....
"I did not!"
"Yes you did. I remember that quite clearly."
"Oh god." I covered my face with my hands, briefly remembering the incident Mason was talking about. "Not my fault your sister pushed me to drink!"
"Yeah but she didn't make you take your clothes off." I cringe at the reminder of what my first time drinking was like. It was in high school my junior year and for some reason I felt like I had to keep up with everyone, not even thinking about the fact that I've never had a single taste of alcohol before. Before I knew it I was drunk off my ass.
I don't really remember what happened but I heard all about the next day. Apparently I thought it would be fun to take my clothes off and jump into the pool...in December. Mason was thankfully there to stop me from jumping in the pool and making a fool of myself. If he hadn't been there to stop me I wasn't sure what would have happened. Of course Heather was no help as she was just as drunk as I was.
"Do you remember anything from that night?" I shook my head at his question.
"I barely remember taking my clothes off, anything after that is a blur. I don't think I properly thanked you for that night."
"No big deal." He shrugged.
"But it was if you hadn't showed up..." I shook my head. "Thanks again, you know 11 years later."
I took another bite of my waffle as Mason watched me from across the table.
"What?" I asked around my mouthful, being completely unladylike.
"Do you know you make a sound when you eat?" I looked at him confused. "You make a sound like this." Mason closed his mouth a let out a low 'mmm' sound, close to a moan.
I choked at the sound, the rest of my waffle going down the wrong pipe. I coughed while shaking my head. Of course all Mason did was sit there watching me choke and turn red with a smug look on his face.
"I do not make that sound!"
"Yeah you do." I felt my eyes go wide. Oh god no. "You only do it once in awhile but its there."
From the smirk pulling at his lips I knew he wasn't lying. The fact that I made an almost moaning sound when I ate...and no one has told me before. Oh god that's humiliating.
"Why have you never told me before!" I hissed, covering my burning cheeks with my hands. Mason just shrugged. "I'm never eating in public again." I muttered. "Never again."
"It's not that bad and it's not even that loud."
"I hate you." I mumbled which just made him laugh.
"You have nothing to be embarrassed about Sam. It's not bad its actually cute." If my cheeks could get any redder. I didn't say anything as I shoved the final bite of my waffle in my mouth, making sure no sounds came out of my throat when I did so.
"So what else do you have to do today?" Mason asked, thankfully changing the subject.
"Um, meet the band for their practice, get Heather's dress and the guy's tuxes. Oh and check with the manager of the hotel to make sure we are still set for tomorrow." I listed off, mentally going through my list.
"How are you suppose to get this done all by yourself? Where is the wedding planner?"
"Heather didn't want one." I shrugged. A wedding planner would have been nice so all the responsibility wouldn't have been put on my shoulders, but Heather didn't want some random stranger doing it. They don't know me. Her exact words.
"You do realize that's not right. You are only one person."
"I can't say no to Heather, you know how it is." I never could say no to Heather. Even when we were younger I couldn't say no when she flashed me those blue eyes or megawatt smile. It was one of the reasons we got in trouble a few times.
"You do realize you can say no to people right?" I rolled my eyes at his words.
"Of course I do. This is Heather's wedding I just want it to be perfect for her." Heather was my sister. We may not be blood related but we were family. And I was going to make sure she got the wedding of her dreams, even if it killed me.
"You can be just as stubborn as my sister." Mason groaned.
"Who do you think I learned it from." I grinned playfully.
"She's a bad influence."
"Oh and where do you think she learned it from, hm?" I raised my eyebrows at him. Mason was notoriously known for being stubborn as hell. Even growing up he never budged. No matter what he put his mind to he would do it no matter what. Even if you told him no, that just made him go for it harder.
Heather never says it out loud but she looks up to her older brother; always has. So of course she would pick up on the stubbornness. It was a Well's family trait, even their mom was just as stubborn.
"Me?" Mason pointed to himself. "I'm not stubborn."
"Yeah and I don't have brown hair." I shook my head at him. "Mason, you and Heather are two of the most stubborn people I've ever met."
"I'm not stubborn though. I'm....determined."
"Same thing Mase." Mason got quiet all of the sudden, his eyes glued to me.
"You haven't called me Mase in a long time." I couldn't tell if he was happy or not that I called him by his old nickname. Before I could answer, I was saved by the ringing of my phone. Ignoring Mason's stare I quickly answered.
"Sam!"
I instantly frowned at the tone that came through the phone.
"What's wrong?"
"The bridal shop just called me and said my veil got shipped to the wrong store. And now it won't be here in time for the wedding tomorrow! What am I going to do!" I could tell Heather was seconds away from having a meltdown which was not a good thing at all. I've dealt with her meltdowns and they were never pretty.
"Heather it's okay, we can figure this out." At my words Mason snapped out of whatever trance he was in and sent me a questioning look.
"The veil ties the whole dress together. If I don't have my veil." She wailed.
Pinching the bridge of my nose I tried to quickly come up with something that would settle her down.
"How about I go to a few stores in town and see if they have anything. I know what your dress looks like so I know what would fit."
"Sam-"
"I got this Heather, don't worry." I cut her off. "I'll go right now to some stores and find you the perfect veil. You'll have it and your dress in your room tonight waiting for you." I silently prayed my words calmed her down.
"Sam what would I ever do without you."
"I know. I'll call you when I find something." With a quick bye I set my phone on the table, closing my eyes for just a second. Yet another to add to the list to do today.
"What's wrong?" Mason asked.
"Heather's veil got sent to the wrong store, so now I have to go find one last minute before she freaks out even more." I really should have rethought the decision about being Heather's maid of honor.
"Veils are important?" Oh Mason, bless your soul. He had absolutely no clue what really goes on with weddings.
"Very." Knowing I had very little time to get everything done, I had to cut our breakfast short. "I'm sorry but I better get going. The veil won't find itself." Pulling out my wallet I went to grab some money to pay half when a hand on my forearm stopped me.
"You aren't paying."
"Mason I can't let you-"
"Yes you can. I'm the one who asked you here. I'm paying." His tone left no room for argument. See, stubborn. "Plus, I'm going with you."
It took me a moment to process his words.
"Wait, what?" Placing money down on the table, Mason moved to the edge of the booth we were in.
"I'm coming with you."
"But...why?"
"Because you need help. And as luck would have it I have nothing to do the rest of the day. So Sam, I am at your service."
