13. Worrying
Dalton really should not have told Will that he admits that he may or may not have a crush on Cole. Every time they pass the grocery store, Will starts singing 'Let's Get It On' and Dalton doesn't know why he turns bright red in the face every time, it just happens. Maybe this is just revenge for the many months that Dalton had teased Will, the consequences of having a best friend were finally coming to him and biting him in the behind. At least Will is busy with dance class so the blond wouldn't have to sit through that nonsense while he worked.
Actually, Cole hadn't come by the coffee shop in a while. It went to the point where even Carlie had asked where the blond's regular had run off to. Max had his back, telling her that people got busy and she shouldn't be worried about it. But the thing was, Dalton was very worried, incredibly worried. It might just be because he was paranoid half the time about most relationships he had but maybe Cole was mad at him? Had he said something at the end of their date a week ago?
Dana had told him that during the shift he doesn't usually go to, Louis had taken an order from Cole a couple times. Dalton tried hard not to read into anything, Cole was probably busy in the afternoons, and besides, many people usually either get their coffee in the mornings or late at night for energy boosters. Really, Dalton shouldn't worry about anything, he barely even knows the guy.
"And I'm telling you, it was the best thing that has ever happened to me." Max said, ending the story he had been sharing with both Dalton and Luke after their shift had ended. Dalton hadn't been paying attention at all.
"That's fantastic mate. I found my guy in high school too, so maybe it's true love." Luke laughed, punching the younger boy in the arm before looking to Dalton, "What about you Dal?"
"Sorry what?" The bringing up of his name caused him to snap back from his train of worrying thought.
Max raised an eyebrow and gave Dalton a look that was a mix between confusion, judgement, and suspicion, "Cole, how's things going with him? Heard you went on a date, you in love yet?"
"Oh uh, the date was good, we just went as friends with our other two friends who happened to be dating, no big deal or anything." He cleared his throat.
"Sure it isn't mate, sure it isn't." Luke laughed as he sipped some more of the coffee they ordered,
Carlie was rolling her eyes at them from behind the counter and muttered something under her breath as she kept working. "You know Luke, technically you weren't supposed to get of your shift for another two minutes."
Luke sheepishly apologized as he chugged the rest of his drink and climbed over the countertop to help Carlie make coffee, leaving Dalton and Max to their own devices. The young male turned to the blond as they were left alone, then asked him when he was next going to see Cole.
It suddenly dawned on Dalton that the next time that they were supposed to help out Will and David with their dance class was actually coming up very quickly. He checked his phone reminder once again to even make sure he had the right date.
"Very soon actually, hopefully it won't be too bad." Dalton groaned, going through all the terrible situations that might occur during that time in his mind. Cole never wants to talk to him ever again, David breaks up with Will because Cole never wants to see Dalton ever again, Dalton accidentally breaks someone's leg by taking a wrong step and then Will and David's weeks of work would be ruined. Okay the last one had nothing to do with his crush on Cole but it was still a valid thing to be anxious about.
"Why would it be bad?" Max asked
"Don't worry about it, I'm probably just overreacting, I shouldn't be worried." He replied, checking his phone and seeing two texts and a missed call. He held a finger up to Max to let him know he would be right back and then left for the back storage space of the shop for some privacy.
One of the texts that had showed up on his phone was from Will. It was just a simple message informing Dalton that Will had gotten a ride home from David again and he'd be home before Dalton himself would be. The other text was from his sister back at his home, wondering if it was okay to paint Dalton walls a dark grey-blue colour as she wanted to make it into a makeshift recording studio while he was at college.
He replied to Will's text with a thumbs up emoji and another text that told his roommate that he had just been hanging out with Max and Luke so he might be a bit late as it was for their regular boys night movie time. Will replied right away, saying that it was cool and that he'd see him soon. He replied to his sister with a go for it as he wouldn't be home for a while, so what would the harm be in painting his room.
The missed call was from
Cole for some reason but it seemed as though a message has been left so Dal would have to call him back, which wouldn't be a good option since Dal had silently told his younger friend that he would come back soon. So he opened up his phone app and went to his messages, waiting for Cole's message to pop up.
"Hey Dal, sorry I haven't contacted you since our date. I've been super busy with school work and stuff, one of my classes had this huge project I'm working on. Anyways, I had fun on the date, just wanted to know if you'd like to go on another one after the dance class with our friends? Sorry if I'm reading into it badly, it can be a friend date if you want, but uh, I wouldn't mind if it was more than that? I don't know, Maybe this time it could just be the two of us?"
Then the beep of the message ending sounded. And the loud whooping and cheering from the storage closet definitely and totally was not Dalton at all.
