Shock - Chapter 11

I never agreed to this. I think I even recorded the conversation to remind Naomi that I had said no.

It went kind of like this:

~ Time Skip A Few Hours Back~

I finished changing in the bathroom and was tying my newly blue hair back away from my face when I saw Naomi sitting on my bed. I didn't think it was anything, and finished my hair then went to open the door. Naomi appeared in front of me suddenly and I jumped back, holding a hand to my speedily beating heart.

"What the heck?! Naomi?" I breathed, regaining my balance. She rolled her eyes at my shocked expression.

"We're going out," she grinned slowly, waiting to see my reaction. My eyes widened and I put my hands on my hips.

"No, no, no. You know I don't like that kind of stuff..." I laughed nervously, stepping back towards the window. Naomi smirked.

"Too bad, Lizard. We're going to see the light of day even if I have to chop you into pieces first!" She declared. I coughed, opening the window with the hand behind my back. She noticed, then disappeared just as I pulled it open and jumped out, flying out into the sunny day. A few people looked up at me, pointing and waving. I smiled down at them, flying faster. I turned my head to look around for Naomi then realized I wouldn't see her.

I was flying so high up in the air that the people below couldn't see my face. Suddenly, I felt a tug on my ankle and I was falling towards the tree of one of the parks of New York. I tried to regain my stability, but the pull wasn't having that. I fell into the trees and hit several branches on my way down, bruising almost every part of my body as I hit the hard ground.

I groaned.

"Get up, Lizard. We're going to get sushi," Naomi's voice said from above me. I watched as she reappeared leaning over me with an unimpressed face. I groaned again, but got up anyways.

"Do we have to?" I whined as we were walking out of the park to Sushi Dragon, the place we were going to to eat. Naomi rolled her eyes at me.

"Yes, we have to. You're like a vampire. So pale," she judged, poking my skin. I pulled my arm away from her, pouting. The trees were coming to a stop in front of us and I halted right at the edge of the park were the gate was. Naomi pulled me out into the sun and I hissed, putting my arm up to block the bright rays. Naomi laughed at my pain.

After walking a few blocks, we got to the Sushi Dragon and pushed the door open with a little ding. A waitress led us to our table and handed us menus. Naomi ordered a Coke and a Spicy Tuna Roll plate. I ordered a lemonade and a California Roll. The waitress smiled brightly, her phony-ness practically dripping through her teeth. After she had left, Naomi leaned towards me and snickered.

"Lizard, did you see that fake smile? Practically not there, if you ask me," she snickered. I shrugged, looking around the restaurant. It was decorated nicely, the booths separated by green-tinted glass. The booths themselves were a dark green color with a dragon scale pattern, the tables a light birch wood. I was looking around when I noticed another ding at the front door. I was going to turn around to see who it was, but Naomi cleared her throat and my gaze stayed on her. She seemed uncomfortable, glancing at the door occasionally.

"Um, Lizard, do you know where Mathew is right now?" she asked. I cocked an eyebrow, craning my head but she slapped my hand out of nowhere. I whipped back around to her, cradling my hand to my chest and rubbing it.

"Ow! What was that for?!" I complained. She just shrugged. I whirled around, suspicious at her behavior. I immediately wished I hadn't turned around.

Mathew was sitting across from a girl at a table directly diagonal from ours. She was smiling flirtatiously and fluttering her long eyelashes. Her eyes were a dark chocolate brown, her hair silky and black. Naomi's hair was sort-of like that, but lighter in color. So were her eyes. There was something that looked almost hungry in the girls eyes as she stared at Mathew. I felt myself stiffen.

"That's alright. He's free to date whoever he wants," I muttered, turning back to Naomi slowly. She looked at me in pity, then in determination. She stood up so quickly I think I got whiplash just from looking at her.

"What are you talking about?! Go ask him what he's doing!" She whisper-shouted at me, gaining every person in the restaurant's attention. I sank lower into my seat, turning pink. Then I heard shuffling behind me and turned ghostly pale. Mathew pulled a chair up to our table, smiling. I heard a few more shuffles and the girl scooted in next to me in the booth. I slid as far away from her as I could, pressing myself against the wall.

~ Present Time ~

"Hi Naomi! Liz," he greeted cheerfully. I looked away, biting my lip slightly. Naomi gave the girl a cold, hard glare. She returned it, but when Mathew turned to her she smiled broadly.

"Guys, this is Amelia. She's a frie-" he started, but the girl cut her off with a phony smile.

"His girlfriend," she finished, obviously sending a message to Naomi. Naomi's throat emitted a low growl, and I kicked her shin under the table warningly. She looked at me, her expression changing, seeing I was upset. Amelia glanced at me and I composed a smile, holding out a hand for her to shake.

"I'm Elizabetha, and this is Naomi. You can just call me Lizzy," I smiled. She looked at my hand in confusion, then shook it gently, barely touching my hand.

"I'll just call you by your real name," she smiled back, gritting her teeth and hissing slightly. I pulled away, my eyes widening a bit. She turned back to Mathew, taking his hand in hers and lacing her fingers through his. I flinched, and she noticed and leaned her head on his shoulder, smirking at me triumphantly.

"Hey, Amelia, who's your favorite super?" Naomi asked after our food had come. I was quietly poking at the sushi with my chopsticks, looking down at it, but I looked up at what she said.

"Ooh, that's a toughie," she thought for a second, twirling her hair around her finger, "I'd have to say... Watermint. She's the healing one, right?" Naomi nodded. Watermint was another super with dyed hair, hers was a dark blue with green tips. Her superpower was healing, so she was one of the nurses on the battlefront.

"What about you, Mathew?" Naomi asked sweetly, turning to him. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat and shrugged. He muttered something that sounded like "I dunno" and Amelia smiled.

"And you, Elizabetha?" Amelia said, turning to me. I freeze in the middle of drinking my lemonade. I swirl my straw around the cup a few times, then look up.

"Uhm, I don't know.." I replied, trailing off slightly. She pushed my shoulder in a teasing gesture, almost slamming me into the wall.

"C'mon, everybody's got one!" she cheered, her eyes widening like a predator's when they see their prey. I gulped.

"Well, I think Shadow's powers are cool," I answered finally. Naomi looked at me with a cocked eyebrow and I started slurping my lemonade again. Amelia nodded in agreement.

"Yeah. I hate his arch-nemesis. What was her name? Plug or something?" she chattered. I almost choked on my sushi, but I swallowed hard and nodded along, hoping she would stop her rant.

"Wait a second. Arch-nemesis?" I asked, stopping in mid-nod. My face betrayed my confusion. She ignored me.

"Her powers are the opposite of his, and she's not very powerful or anything..." she blabbed, not touching her food. I almost wanted to reach over and slap her out of it to ask her the question again.

I couldn't possibly have a nemesis already. I mean, Shadow was the opposite and blah blah blah, but seriously? Did everyone now think of me as his arch-nemesis?

"The check," the waitress lady said as she sneaked up in our conversation. I jumped and put in my fair share of money. Amelia put a wad of money on top of the little black book. My jaw almost fell off my face. I stood up along with Naomi.

"We should go," Naomi thanked the waitress and turned to Mathew and Amelia. Amelia had a smirk on her face, obviously the winner of this quiet battle. Mathew just looked so confused, looking down at Amelia's hand like it was alien. We waved goodbye and walked out of the store, striding into a dark alley, then taking off into the sky.

As we made our way back to the Academy, I could practically touch the tension between Naomi and I because of Amelia. Her silence was more of a I will kill your friends and family if you look at Lizard like that again and mine was more of a I give up, do whatever you want.

I sighed as my feet landed on the familiar carpeted floor of our dorm room. I went and sat on my bed, laying back against the pillows slightly. Naomi noticed and set her face into a mad one, stomping up to me and grabbing my arm.

"Suit up, we're going to train."
