Chapter 8: Memories

Rose yawned, her mouth making a small O, and opened her eyes. She sat up and gazed around, eyes still at half mast. When she spotted Jace, her eyes snapped open all the way and she remembered everything up to that boy putting her to sleep. She glared at him, hiding her fear behind her anger. "What right do you think you have to kidnap me you blaze crack?" she snapped rather abruptly.

Jace looked at her, his gaze filled with joy and love at having Rose back. "I don't." he replied simply. "But what I do have is an explanation and a way to return your stolen memories."
Rose looked at him warily, still mad but wanting to understand. "Keep talking." she replied in an emotionless tone, hiding her conflicting feelings.

Jace heard her tone, and was eager to change it. Pulling the golden potion out of his inventory, Jace looked back at Rose and spoke. "This can restore your memories, all the ones that were stolen from you will be returned. I made it with the most powerful ingredient of all, so it will work." He placed it on the bed next to Rose, then leaned back into the chair once more.

Rose looked down at the potion he had set down, feeling... drawn to it. She tore her gaze away and refocused on Jace. "Who are you, and why did you bring me here, wherever here is?" she said in a biting tone, indicating she wasn't looking for a lie as an answer.

Jace gave a small smile, this was the Rose he loved. "My name is Jace, and the only reason you don't know that is because Notch took your memories. As for where we are, that's simple. We are in my house, which resides in my personal dimension."

Rose was still wary, but no longer outright hostile. "Your dimension? There is only 4 recorded dimensions listed in the book bu-" Rose cut off as she remembered her bag. "Jace where is my bag? I need something out of it right now."

Jace got up and opened a hidden compartment behind a painting, reached in and pulled out the bag. Shutting the compartment door, he walked back over to Rose and placed the bag next to the potion on the bed. "I made sure to keep it safe, and I haven't touched or looked in your bag at all." Jace sat back down in the chair, placing his hands in his lap.

Rose looked at him, unsure to trust what he was saying or not. She quickly looked in the bag, checking that everything was still there. Once she was sure that nothing was missing or tampered with, Rose pulled out the book. It still glowed slightly as she touched it, but Rose ignored that and flipped to the chapter with dimensions. "Look here. There is only 4 dimensions. The Nether, the End, the Overworld, and the Aither. Are we in one of those?"

Jace smiled and leaned back into his chair. "Ah, but that is where Notch is wrong. You see, I made this dimension, and nobody can find my little pocket dimension unless I bring them here, like I did with you. No one else can find this place, and I can shape it however I want."

Rose looked at him, wanting to clarify. "So Notch can't find me here and drag be back to be 'The Chosen One' right? Because he's rather rude."

Jace grinned. "Yup. My dad nor his brothers can find you here, and if you want you can stay here as long as you want."

Rose stared at him, hostile again. "Notch is your DAD?! And you didn't tell me this before why? For all I know you are working for him !"

Jace's smile fell a little, and he spoke carefully. "Well I hate my dad as much as you do, that's why I brought you here. That and a few other reasons that you'll understand soon."

Rose relaxed a bit, but was still not trusting him fully. "What other reasons? Why can't you explain them to me now?"

Jace looked at her, surprised she didn't understand yet. "The potion. My other motives will be clear once you have your memories back."

Rose looked at him, then down at the potion. She picked it up, holding it at eye level and examining it. "Does it have any side effects Jace?"

Jace answered promptly. "The only side effect is that it will make you sleepy. You need to not fight it, because your memories will return in the form of a dream. Then when you wake up, all of your past will be there."

Rose glanced at him, then back at the potion. "Ok... But don't leave until I fall asleep ok?"

Jace smiled at her, happy that she trusted him at least a bit. "I promise I won't Rose. I won't move from this chair until I know you are asleep."

Rose gave him a small smile and raised the bottle to her lips, but paused and looked at Jace again. He nods so she drinks the potion and sets the empty bottle on the side table. Her eyes start drooping immediately, so she lays back down and started drifting off to sleep.
