Chubby Cheeks 40
...can't agree more with the fact that Angelina is indeed the fresh-faced fashion heartthrob. If baby pink and peach weren't the best combinations to glamorize this evening with beads lace up, then I doubt what could be? Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for the wonderful Angelina... the proud owner of Watermelon Boutique on stage featuring the best free size clothing boutique that mainly focuses on plus size fashion..."
And there goes another day of my life like a celebrity. The best part of it all was; I am still fat.
I haven't cracked a sweat to reduce my weight just for the sake of shining in the silver screens like all those beautiful models. The appreciation I acquired was mainly from the fat population, especially fat teenage girls and of course true lovers of fashion.
With the help of Alex and my family, I was able to open my childhood dream, a boutique which boasted every elegant dress especially for plus size women as well as for normal people.
The main aim behind my boutique was to make everyone fit under the same roof of my outlet so that the fat people won't feel they are being left out. Even, online purchases were available; boosting my sales to a boon in the first few weeks of retailing, which earned me the brilliant signature of "successful novice entrepreneur."
For the first time in my life, I was able to show everyone that even fat people have the power to do it. Just give me one chance, that's all that it takes for me to show my talent just like any of those girls outside who were oppressed by mocking words.
Girls, rise... and give it a go!
Watermelon was the name of my boutique as I selected it to show how much I am serious even though I had to laugh my ass off at first when the name sparked to life in my mind. At first, when I advertised for my shop, you should have seen people laughing at my face a bit brusquely. But, did that stop me? No, I raised my chin and continued plastering the ads into every available space possible. Within weeks, people started to flow in and trust me; it never stopped.
My friends were the rock in my life when I struggled to raise my dream. Annie, Cory, Tina, Miley, Angie, Nat, Kat and Pamela along with jasmine and Celine helped me by being the girls I wanted in the shop. Kat, Pam, Jasmine, and Celine helped me doing part time job while the others stayed full time until they got enrolled into a nice university. We planned to join Boston University as it was the only Uni which was nearby to our place even though it was a few hours' drive. Thus, we can maintain our enterprise along with studies.
Alex and Nat had Bike Squad to take care of; an excellent expression of Alex's brilliant mind. The shop was a complete bike showroom which accommodated every gadget, accessories, and bikes people can ever wish for.
Bike squad and Watermelon Boutique flourished to great heights earning us a name in the utmost rank possible.
Well, not to forget the engineering enterprise by Fabian that triumphed to the best construction work in the country. Jack and Jasmine finally got engaged and left behind their stupid insecurities and arguments. Jack beamed in pride with his gym while Jasmine was about to graduate from her law curriculum.
I can finally see the long golden grasses swaying in the fine breeze wafting through meadows with strong blissful fragrance. The road was straight and clear in my view that I couldn't help myself but beam in joy. Alex did get busy with his business while I stayed rooted with my boutique. However, every night we close our shops at eight thirty and rounded up with everyone in any of our houses to enjoy the quality time with the only family we got.
I remember mom's words that we should never forget our immediate relations and needs even though we are climbing high on victory. Something that has struck so hard in my mind was the fact that she asked me to believe and stay firm in my prayers and gratitude even if life brings me down.
So, if you are standing up, you should never forget lord. Well, I can never forget my Lord; it was only because of him, that I am fortunate enough to feel this contentment.
"Before when we were eating pizzas, we rounded up around some cheap sticky table and had fun like there was no tomorrow, so now when we have mountains on our shoulders earning us quite a fortune and we are sitting around polished oak table... god, scratch that, I am just being tipsy; I don't think we should worship the fortune and forget our valuable time. So, cheers for the hardship that has to ripen so many wild fruits in our parlor. Cheers in the name of our Lord that have provided us with immense success in our paths. Cheers in the name of our Lord that have helped us in our hardship and guided us to the right path. So say Amen strong and loud then let's pray hard for our future and let's drink for a better tomorrow. Cheers..." Alex beamed.
Anyone who watched us from outside our window might feel envious of our success and merriment. But, I have to tell you how much we had to go through in our lives to earn what is now ours. The golden glow from the chandelier and the fragrance of onion and cream chips with Doritos, Cheese crackers, Cheetos and much more varieties of crackers and chips adorned our dining table. Coke, seven up, beer and ginger ale littered.
I sat close to Alex and photographed every moment into my mind with a smile so wide that I laughed at a silly joke Nat expressed. It was so silly and meaningless, that my laughter made it even more awkward which in turn leads to laughter marathon and no one knew why we were even laughing.
The perks of being happy to the fullest; it made me stand up and hoist my hands up so high and scream:
"TO US..."
"TO USS..."
After a while, we decided to do a movie marathon and inserted many movies in random order so that no one gets to pick any favorites. Alex distracted me all the time by kissing and fondling. Good thing that we were sitting separately on a bean bag away from the others.
"Stop it, Alex, you are ruining the show."
"As if you haven't watched Notebook before"
"Ah come on but it is fun when I watch it with you."
"Wait till the next one comes; I am sure you won't be leaving my side."
"Don't tell me that you have..." he didn't allow me to finish the sentence. He crashed onto my lips in order to silence me. Well, I am not complaining. Finally, the movie ended and the entire boy team cheered while here and there I can hear a dreamy sigh and sniffs. Ah, I rolled my eyes but gave the screen a flying kiss. Alex laughed out loud rolling his head back, I can't complain him, though.
The next movie screamed; insidious. Well, that red colored word made the girl team scream in horror. But, Nat rubbed her hands and said, "Ah, this is my baby." It's not my fault that I am not a fan of scary movies just like her. Halfway through, I could hear my boy friend's scream while Nat laughs wildly enjoying the look of their faces. Well, even I laughed when I saw the boys scream like girls and clutching on to the next person. So, hilarious... but, I had a plan to trick Nat and so I slowly tip-toed out of the room and went to the bathroom for formulating my plan.
I slowly walked back with a flashlight to my face- which was decorated with black kohl and mascara. I know I will have a hard time scrubbing it all off but it was worth it. There was this place when the screen was searching for the ghost with a scary music oozing out. I beamed with joy because it was the perfect time for me to scare her. I patiently stood on her back.
Just when the ghost screamed to the screen, I tapped Nat's back and smiled devilishly by pulling my hair to the front with a loud boisterous laughter. Nat screamed like all hell broke loose on her and scrambled far away from me, falling on top of David who was sitting in between her legs, which in turn made everyone look back... I never thought this will be such a bad idea ever because the next thing I saw was people scrambling with so much screaming like there was some serial killer waiting to murder them.
Because I was too stunned, I was not able to tell them... it's me, Angela. The next thing I saw was Alex walking with a mirror and just in time, I turned with the flashlight illuminating myself which made me scream for my life.
Laughing like a maniac, Alex switched on the lights and continued laughing. Everyone came back and piled on me with such anger than Nat even said, "I hate you..."
"God, seriously... did you have to show your skills in between a ghost movie?" David said in between gulping water.
"I never found you guys to be such a wet pussy cat."
"Angela... DON'T... I hate you; don't make me hate you more." Nat yelled.
"Oh, come on... you were seriously enjoying them being scared and you not at all scared. So, I had to play you."
"Alex thanks for doing that on her." Cory cried in between sniffs.
"Come on guys, it was not that bad."
That simple statement earned me so much shoving and pushing which in turn insinuated human pile. Simply say this that I was out of breath being squished under all of them. We slept over after playing truth or dare. Nat forced me to pick dare and you know what she did as revenge? She made me stand in a completely dark room for an hour. Sweet!
It was a bright blissful morning with so much to do. The much-awaited wedding was scheduled for the coming week leaving us with the job of finding the best dress. Well, everything was planned in my head and was in progress as I wanted them to be.
The only job left was to find the best dress.
Just as I was about to get ready for dress hunting; I got a phone call from a Mr. Eric Chandler. When Brono said the name out loud, I noticed Alex going pale like he saw a ghost. I stared at him questioningly which made him sit down with a deep red dominating his cheeks.
"Hello, is this Angelina?"
"Yes"
"I am Eric Chandler, legal advisor of Mrs. Grainer and Gerald Greens. I am calling you to inform you that Mrs. Grainer has passed away with her will and other legal formalities ready plus a hand written letter to be given to you personally. You are the new owner of Gerald Greens and I want you to come by tomorrow ten in the morning to sign so that I can step forward with the remaining procedures."
"Uh... okay, I will be there by ten."
"Good. Well, umm... how's my... erm... Alex? How's my son?"
That silenced me for a long time which was pulling me down into the depths of suffocating ocean.
"He is... fine."
"Good, take good care of him. My children are the best."
With that, he hung up on me without waiting for a reply. I closed my eyes and looked at Alex to see him crying his eyes out. Man, this was more difficult than I thought it would be. I had to do something before I need to talk to someone and read that letter.
I am sure the letter might be everything that Granny wanted to tell me and probably something which she told me already. Anyway, that just reminds me of her in every possible way making me wet like a leaking faucet. She was my backbone of strength and for such a big day, she had to be a star shining from above.
Damn, sometimes I want to strangle life.
