Chapter 11

*Continuation of the last chapter!*

AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW

When they were far enough a way, Knight let's go of his arm, to see his hair already grew back. The red spot was still there, but the fire sensation was long gone.

"Why didn't you transform?" Amber asked as they started walking to who knows where. Amber's just blindly following Knight.

Knight tranforms back to his human form, but it's far too late. Amber rolls her eyes, furiously kicking the rock in front of her.

Where was that ten minutes ago?

Knight stares at her, disbelief written all over his eyes. She doesn't know why. "Oh, so no, 'I'm sorry'? That hurt..."

"We wouldn't have been in that mess if you just transform... what did you mean by 'I can't'?" Amber pressed harder this time, leaving no room for argument.

He nervously rubs his neck looking up at the sky. "Wow, look at that, the moon is probably going to be a full moon next week or..."

"Knight, don't change the subject." Amber firmly demanded. Knight stops and looks at her, pleading with her, but she doesn't budge. Her eyes just stay on Knight as his fell to the ground.

"What I said is literally what I mean. I don't know how..."

"You don't know how!" She exclaimed sarcastically.

"I'm serious, I don't know how."

"Snap Knight, that's bad. A werewolf that doesn't know how to control is as good as dead..."

"Yet, I saved your life, pup." Knight sneered. Amber immediately holds the dagger over his heart faster than he could process the situation. Knight slowly holds his hands up in surrender.

"Don't call me that," she threatened, glaring intensely at him. When she feels like he understands her, she dropped the dagger and handed it to him. He grabbed it and holded it in front of him for self-defense. She just rolls her eyes at him before walking the direction they were going before.

"Whatever you're doing, I would stop. You don't want me transforming into my full wolf form, that dagger won't help you." She called back, knowing full well she'll never allow that to happen. She doesn't need another werewolf seeing her fur color is different from her human hair.

She tenses as she feels him right behind, feeling the dagger against her T-shirt, not quite touching the skin. The thought of it gives her a queezy feeling.

He suddenly runs up and walks right beside her, his grip never leaving his dagger, but it's down. "Well, sorry if I felt threaten..."

"Don't be sorry, it was a threat." Her eyes flashed up at his before looking forward again. Her body stance screams irritation. She's biting her lip from attacking him, her breathing is heavier than normal, and her eyes are darker than normal.

There's a certain feeling when it comes to her eyes. A strong distinction that she knows what her eyes looks like with each emotion she experiences, and she knows there's hints of red in them right now, but it's practically pitch black, Knight wouldn't be able to see it.

"Wow, you would hurt your own kind? No wonder no one trusts you." She stops in her tracks and glares at Knight, her arms folded across her chest. His dagger is up again, directly over her heart.

"Says the werewolf holding the dagger." She snapped back.

Could I die from the dagger? No, right?

Play it careful, you're still a vampire!

"For self-defe..."

"Look, you have no idea who I am or what I'm capable of, so if I were you I would drop the dagger and..."

"Funny, that's kind of what Tyler said." He interrupted her thoughts. She shakes her head, feeling a new burst of energy course through her.

"Tyler's just being his annoying self..."

"He said 'I don't know what you are' though I personally think it's 'who you are' but either way he's right. I don't know you that well." What Knight said made Amber's blood run chill.

Tyler said what he meant: he meant 'what'...

But Knight thinks it's 'who' and even than, he's not wrong.

You could just kill him, let me surface, I'll do it for you.

No!

What? You don't have to worry about him anymore. It's a vampires job anyway.

I'm done with killing and fighting tonight. I'm tired!

That's why I offered...

And I'm telling you 'no'!

"Yeah, grammar was never one of Tyler's specialities. But he's not wrong either, we don't know each other..."

"Actually, I think I got part of you figured out...I don't know you know you, but I kind of know you if that makes sense." Knight said with uncertainty. Amber cocked her head to the side not getting a word he just said.

They continue walking and once again, Knight's dagger is down. "Not really..." Amber started.

"I know you, but not really on a personal friendship level. Only on the surface of what I see." Knight responded making it a lot more clearer for Amber to understand.

"Oh really? So how do you know me?" She questioned, suddenly amused. Unless, he knows her secret, he knows nothing about her.

"Okay, first let me start off with your work is very sloppy. You start off slow, and you finish slow, if I wasn't there, you wouldn't be able to fight them off..."

"May I interject?" Amber asked already planning on it, already doing it. "Would you be able to?" She asked and immediately knew the answer. She thought of the nine vampires holding him back and knew he could.

"As matter of fact, yes I can. I've done it before..."

"So what makes you think I can't do it?" Amber asked annoyed, but showing hints of curiosity. Knight twirls his dagger, throwing it and catching it by handle every time.

He waves his hand in the air, dismissing her last comment. "For starters you know little to no combat skills. You may be able to transform but that's not all you need to know. You need to know how to defend yourself and you're just not there yet..."

"Please, I've been doing it for years...alone might I add, I know how to defend myself." Amber said with certainty.

"Okay," he paused, his voice rings with disbelief. Amber's nostrils flare and her body shakes with anger. "Going back to what I was saying about being slow... that's basically it. You're slow from start to finish..."

"Do you have proof of me being slow?" Amber asked the words taste bitter to her mouth. She's probably one of the fastest werewolves out there, in her opinion. She never really tested it with anyone. Never raced, never really socialized to find out, but she stills believes it's true.

"Yes, I do." Knight stopped and stared at her. She stops and does the same only her stare is more of a death glare. "I saw you earlier with your last opponent, you hesitated to kill the vampire and though I don't know what was holding you back, I do know something was. I would never do that to one of my opponents, I kill them without any slight hesitation."

Shocked, she took a step back from him. When he said "I kill them without any slight hesitation" scared her as if she was suddenly his opponent. He wouldn't have any second thoughts about killing her.

Remember, he doesn't know who the Headmaster is... he doesn't even know why the vampires come every week. He doesn't know they are being forced to do it, all he sees is an enemy....

And that's how you should see it, Amber! You see an enemy and you kill them, that's how it should be...

I thought you would protect your own kind...

You flatter me, but I don't protect anyone...Look they still come...

Great now I'm getting a pep talk with myself.

Listen! No matter who's telling them, they still come. They made their choice, now you need to make yours... and I can't believe I'm saying this right now, but I agree with Knight.

Wow, you never agree with anyone, not even your other half.

Yeah, don't get use to it.

"I guess that's another thing we disagree on," she whispered feeling her vampire side outraged. Just because her vampire side agrees doesn't mean her other half has too.

They're just polar opposites.

"Why? Why don't you see it my way?" He questioned, motioning for them to move forward. Reluctantly she follows, her legs feels like jello with each step she takes.

"No, trust me I see it your way. It's just hard to kill them when you know why their here. I'm no idiot Knight, they're here and for one thing only: The Headmaster. If they don't do what he says, he will kill them." Amber growled when she mentioned the Headmaster, and Knight caught on for her dislike with him. She only ever met him once, but even that was one too many times.

"Who is the Headmaster?" Knight asked, putting his dagger in its sheath.

"He's the oldest living vampire. If there's an older one, he or she never made themself known. He's also the ruler of all vampires. He holds onto gold daggers every where he goes and if someone does something out of hand or not to his liking, he kills them with the dagger." Amber's voice hoarse as she spoke of him.

"So where do you fit in the picture?" Knight asked curiously. Amber looks over to him to find herself looking into his eyes. His eyes is golden with hints of orange, it's almost as if his eyes glow in the dark. His eye colors are constantly changing.

She doesn't answer.

"You have to be either someone who got on his bad list or holding something that he would want his hands on. Which one is it?" Knight practically blurted out, catching Amber off guard. He was so direct, so on point that she didn't know where to go with this.

How about both.

"How did you meet him..."

"Okay, that's enough questions." Amber interrupted feeling overwhelmed, pressing her hands to her temple. "So where are we going exactly?" She asked changing the subject as they hit the pavement.

"Where I'm going, is somewhere you don't like: my house. You on the other hand, I have no idea where you're going." Knight smiled holding in his laugh. The look on Amber's face will surely be one Knight will never forget.

Amber stops in her tracks.

Where did I think we were going?

Unexpectedly a smile appeared on her face making Knight lost in confusion. "You know we never really talked about your flaws..."

"That's because I don't have any." He smiled sweetly before walking again. She stands still for a moment, wondering if she should follow him, but she also needs to finish what she was previously saying.

She runs to catch up with him. "First of all, you are a terrible navigator because your house is on the other side of the park." He immediately brushed it off and kept walking. She grabbed his shoulder, turned him around so he was facing her, then pointed up to the street sign that read Twisty Toad Street.

Jaw dropped, he looks back the way they came. They must have at least walked half a mile. "Second of all," Amber started heading back across the street leaving him behind. "You don't know how to control your werewolf transformation, which is a major flaw. The worst one in fact." She called over her shoulder, he almost instantly caught up with her.

He rolls his eyes at her, but doesn't interject either. "Third of all, you don't know how to control your werewolf powers. I'm not even sure you know what it is." Amber said matter of factly.

"Wow, that's a pretty big assumption..."

"One that I'm right in because in order to master your powers, you need to learn how to control your transformation first." Amber said sharp-witted.

"Aren't you just a little know it all..."

"When it comes to werewolves or vampires, I am. Have you even used your powers? Let alone, used it before?" Amber asked quickly, curiosity getting the better of her. He nods his head, his gaze only at his hands in front of him. Clenching and unclenching in fists.

"What is it?" Amber asked.

"Lightning. It can paralyze vampires completely. They can't move a muscle...I never tried it on a werewolf." Amber's eyebrows immediately shot up at his answer. She never met someone with that power before.

"Wow, to have a power as powerful as that one, you must be a strong werewolf, regardless if you don't know how to control it." Amber said softly, almost softer than a whisper, but Knight heard her clearly.

"What's your powers?" He asked with the same curiosity Amber had when she asked him. She grimace, but quickly relaxed grateful it's dark and he can't see her.

"It doesn't matter I rarely ever use it." She said sharply, ending the subject as quick as it came. They walked in silence for a while, both deep in their own thoughts.

After a few minutes of silence, the same curiosity, Amber experienced earlier, surfaced. She can't help it, she doesn't know him and asking questions is one way to know. "This is kind of a random question, but has your parents ever taught you? I mean obviously they didn't or you would already know how to control your powers, but why didn't they?" Amber blurted out, the curiosity can be contained only for so long.

She watches Knight's reaction and though it's almost completely dark she could see his eyes hardening. His fists clenched again and this time stayed that way.

"It's complicated," he growled. The sound of his voice made her jump. She did not expect that.

She didn't push after that. They just walked in silence, heading back over to the park. She looks down at her hands, starts intertwining them, then releasing them. Over and over.

Maybe his family doesn't like him, and therefore didn't teach him how to control himself...

That's an important life skill to have though, I don't know how long I would last without knowing how to transform willing.

Yet, look how far he's come. He gets through it, and he survives.

It's not easy, being a part of a family. I mean, my family supported me sometimes, but in the end I had to go. I'm dangerous to everyone I'm around.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap, it's just...my family is not something I like to talk about." Knight whispered coming right from behind her. She jumps, but relaxes when he walks over to the right side of her.

"It's been a long night, besides I kind of can relate, I don't like to talk about my family either." Amber said sadly. The silence comes again, and this time Amber accepted it with open arms.

After a few minutes, she starts giggling at the sudden realization of something.

"What?" Knight asked, surprised.

"No, I just realized something. You have amazing combat skills, and I know how to control my transformations and powers. If we were one person we would be the perfect match...unstoppable." Amber concluded adding her own hand gestures.

"I suppose you're right." Knight mused. He stops and turns to her. She forces herself to stop and do the same. He crosses his arms and lifts his eyebrows. She stands there putting her hands on her hips wondering what he's doing.

"How about this: I teach you how to defend yourself... I'll teach you the basic combat skills, and in return you teach me how to control my transformations." Knight finished.

She gasps at the thought of it and immediately storms off throwing her hands up in the air. He runs up to her and turns her around to face him not a hint of a smile appears on his face or Amber's. He's dead serious.

His idea is completely absurd!

"Are you kidding me? Man, and you say I'm crazy! No... No! I don't even know how, let alone like you enough to do it. We would probably kill each other within the first few days..."

"We'll learn how and we probably wouldn't kill each other... Come on, you said it yourself 'we would be unstoppable'." Knight said practically pleading with Amber. She can tell he wants this badly, he wants to learn how to control his werewolf side. Amber would too, if she was in his shoes.

Who knows what would happen, we already don't get along...we could kill each other at the end of this.

But he does make a valid point. It's actually a brilliant plan, up to the part where we don't know how to teach each other that sort of thing.

Are you willing to give it a try though? You're insane if you are.

I don't know...

"I don't know," she paused looking over to him. As much as Amber hates to admit it, she needs help with her combat skills.

He's the enemy! Don't do it...

He's not the enemy, but you do make a valid point about us not getting along, that would be a challenge.

Look, he probably self taught himself, which means it's possible for you to do the same.

It may be easier to have a proper trainer....

Would said he was 'proper'?

He needs to learn how to control his transformations, what if I can teach him? He would be so much better off.

"I'll compromise. I'll give you three weeks to do it. In return, I have three weeks." She immediately holds her hand up to stop him from speaking. "Yes, I know it's not enough time that's why we'll see how we feel after the three weeks is up..."

"I was actually going to say that's a great idea." He stretches out his hand waiting for Amber to shake it. "So do we have a deal?" He asked. Hesitantly, she shakes it.

"Yeah, but trust me when I say 'I won't go easy on you' at the end of this, you'll probably be begging to go back home to your family." She smirked and the corners of his lips quirk up to a grin.

"Oh, I'm gonna count on it. In fact, I'm glad to hear you say that because now I don't have to play nice. By the end of this, you're going to be begging to go back to that bench of yours..."

"Wait, where else would I be?" She asked, her brow raised up.

"I have an extra bedroom, you can stay there. Besides I don't want to be driving back and forth to your bench. Twice something bad has happened to me over there, and I don't want there to be a third..."

"You'll get use to it, but fine...At least they don't know where you live...hopefully. And it's only for the three weeks, then we'll be going our separate ways." Amber finished which Knight nod his head too.

"It will be like we've never met before." He agreed, heading back to Amber's bench. Amber notices and was about to say something, but Knight beat her to it. "I figured you would want your backpack..."

"My backpack! I almost forgot!" Amber immediately transformed to mid-stage and ran off. "Thanks for reminding me." She called back.

How did he remember and I didn't?

Man, these three weeks is going to be an interesting.
