Chapter 17
Continuation of the last chapter :-)
AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW
"Was it because I was alone?" Amber asked, walking side by side with him towards the house.
He shrugged, "sure, you can tell yourself that."
"So that would be a no. Okay, I'm running out of options, and I only gave you one of my options." She dramatically answered, throwing her hands up in the air to top it all off.
"Do you even have other options?" He challenged, leaving Amber speechless at the moment. "That's what I thought. It's not an easy question to guess the answer."
"Well, it just doesn't make sense, I mean no one and I mean no one, talks to me, so it's a mystery as to why you did." She emphasized thinking hard on it. He opens the door and she walks through.
"Yeah, about that, is there a reason why no one talks to you?" Knight asked, snapping Amber back to reality. Very straight-forward question, one Amber doesn't know completely herself.
She always thought it was because she was the monster she is, but the fact is, none of the other students knew that about her. Maybe they could sense that she was different, dangerous.
"I don't know, I'm not the most social butterfly out there. If anything, I'm the social cocoon."
"Wait, caterpillars don't even socialize when they're in there cocoons." Knight incredulously inquired.
"Exactly," Amber responded patting him on the back before walking past him, heading towards the bathroom.
She motions for him to follow and they both walk in, Knight looking skeptical as ever, but Amber's just grateful the bathroom's big enough for both of them. Neither of them squished or uncomfortable.
"Okay, usually I don't ask, but why are we here?" He asked.
"You always ask, all the time Knight." She said, rolling her eyes. "We're here for one thing and one thing only: your mirror. The bathroom's the only place in this house that has a mirror, so this is what we got."
Knight's incredulous look was even more incredulous if that was even possible. Somehow, Knight made that possible.
"Okay, why the mirror?" He asked.
"You'll find out soon enough." She rushed, trying to find her train of thought. "Okay, first lesson is all about emotions..."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Knight interjected. Amber slaps him a little too rough on the arm, stopping him from asking any further questions.
"Let me finish and you will find out." She snapped, moving him to stand directly in front of the mirror. She steps off to the side so it's mostly Knight who's reflection's in the mirror.
Knight looks at her reflection in the mirror, still dying to know why their here and why they need a mirror.
"Okay, we're gonna go through many emotions such as surprise, anger, sadness, happiness, etc. Now when you have a certain emotion, your eye color changes, that's why when you look in the mirror it looks like your eyes are constantly changing shades of gold. It's important to know what your eyes look like even without having a mirror in front of you because that also helps with your transformation, you transform with certain eye colors."
"How do you know all this?" He skeptically asked. She shrugs looking at her own eyes in the mirror. Her eyes are a light orange with golden specks surrounding it, expressing her emotion of calmness.
"I told you I'm an expert when it comes to werewolves and vampires because I experienced and lived it." She said and instantly caught herself with the look he gave her. "I mean not the vampire part obviously, but I watched it in vampires lives." She frantly added the last part watching her eyes change to her light brown eyes: worry.
Knight lifted his eyebrows looking over at her, but she did her best to shrug it off. "Anywho, I've noticed and actually practiced everyday for years until I can tell exactly what my eye color looks like without looking in a reflective object." Amber said prideful.
"Oh yeah, prove it." He tested, crossing his arms with his cocky smirk on his face. She mimics his stance, smirk and all.
"Fine, and just to prove I'm not cheating, I'll face away from the mirror." She said her back now facing the mirror, her eyes only on Knight. "I can tell you right now my eyes are a dark orange with light yellow specks towards the pupils. I also know that right at this very second it's changing again to a more mix between the two, but if you had to choose one color of what it mostly contains it would actually be a light orange."
Jaw dropped, he just stood there stunned. She smiled sweetly at him, knowing full well she smacked that smirk right off his face, and it felt so good to do so. "How did you do that?"
"I told you years of practice." She shrugged off, smiling a bit. "The first emotion was a sense of calmness. Do you know what my second emotion was?" She asked, which he shook his head.
"It was satisfaction. Satisfied that I know I got you beat." She answered, triumphantly. He was always going to lose the minute he challenged her, her winning just proved that.
"Are vampires the same way?" Knight suddenly asked, which Amber nods her head too.
"Okay, you got me convinced. I'm ready to learn how, but sometime, we need to have a talk about werewolves and vampires. I have a lot of questions." Knight said.
"I'm sure I can answer them all," she said rushed and anxious to get started, really hoping this will work. "Ready?" She asked with slightly more enthusiasm, which he nods in agreement.
"Okay let's go over the instructions a bit. Let's say...this is just an example, the emotion is happiness. Now, for conjuring these emotions, I need you to think of memories pertaining to these emotions. I can sort of tell when you are experiencing this emotion, but only you completely know how you feel. I could mistake your emotion of happiness for satisfaction, or I can mistake your emotion of sadness with anger, only you would know the emotion.
Which is why you have to think of memories you are willing to share with me because you will be sharing your memories. Just so I can make sure your memory is connected to the subject. So if I say 'think of a time when you were happy' you better not say 'when my favorite dog died.' No, that's not happy. Okay, that was a lot to take in, you got it all?" She asked, hoping he took all that information in.
"Well, I guess this is another way you get to know me better." Knight concluded. Amber gave her encouraging small smile, nodding her head in agreement.
"First emotion, satisfaction...This is for real." Amber called out, watching as Knight's eyes changed from a dark yellow, to his bright golden eyes. If the lights weren't on in the bathroom, she would have thought they could glow in the dark.
She never seen eyes that bright unless it was a vampire drinking blood, and she rather not experience that again. Their eyes turns a unmistakable bright blood red, ones where you see those eyes, you better run.
"Huh, interesting, they're very bright. No hints of dark yellow or orange anywhere. Explain." She demanded flatly.
"I was just thinking back to the time I won the last game of Connect Four, very satisfying." He teased. She slapped him harder in the arm. He just laughs it off as he rubs his arm, and she continues to glare at him.
"I should have won that game..."
"But you didn't." He said satisfied.
"Oh really, how long did it take for you to figure that one out, brainyack?" She sarcastically asked, knowing full well if she doesn't stop now, she's going to start rambling on as to why she should have won.
"Okay, give me disgust." She curiously demanded. His eyes flash to darker gold, almost the color of light brown itself. Amber couldn't help, but smile each time his eyes widen when he sees it change.
"Okay, what did you think about this time?" She inquired.
"The time I tried cauliflower. It's disgusting, I'll never try that again." He said disgusted. "It may look like a broccoli, but it's not broccoli!" Amber bursts out laughing surprised that's what he thinks of.
"You know, now that you mentioned this, I realize your eyes are a light orange when you laugh." He commented, she looks at her eyes and shrugs.
"Yeah, your eyes tend to be a lighter color when you're happy." Amber acknowledged. "That's for most vampires and werewolves. They tend to be darker when you're...not in the happiest mood, which leads us to our next emotion: anger."
As quick as lightning his eyes flash to a intense dark pale gold. "What did you think about this time?"
"The time my brother stole my new moon rocks collection." He said, a small smile on his face when he sees Amber's eyes widen. "I used to be a huge science nerd. I was ten, and it was my Christmas gift. When I opened it the box was there with none of the rocks. My brother eventually came clean and said he had them, but I was so mad at him I didn't talk to him for almost a whole week. He knew it was something I've been asking for years, and when I finally got it he hides them away from me? Not cool."
"Wow, no offense your brother sounds horrible." Amber acknowledged. Knight gives a short laugh, but Amber doesn't find any of it funny.
Week? Knight you're too nice, I would have ignored them for much longer, have them see how badly they hurt me.
Though I've been told you shouldn't hold grudges.
Please grudges is what makes life entertaining, until it gets boring, then you can stop.
"Yeah, but we grew closer together after that experience. Soon enough, he was my bestest friend, and for a while my only friend. He would stand up for me and I him. Our parents used to say we were inseparable, always playing together."
Used to?
"Then what happened? Are you guys still like that?" Amber quietly asked, but the bathroom only made her words echo louder. Silenced filled the air and it stayed like that for what seemed like several minutes, but was only several seconds.
"Things change once you grow up." Knight said sadly, ending the conversation there. His eyes change from dark pale gold to dark gold glassy eyes. His eyes look lifeless.
"Okay, let's change the subject." She said not liking the sudden change in his mood, she didn't mean to make him sad or to think about it, but now she doesn't have to ask for that emotion. "I want satisfaction again, and this time use a different memory."
"Why?" He skeptically asked.
"Because the thing about these emotions is their eye color stays the same or very very similar and I want to make sure that satisfaction is still bright yellow eyes."
"If it's not?" Knight challenged. Amber crosses her arms.
"Then that means the emotion you had earlier or the one you will have, wasn't exactly satisfaction. I'm telling you, it stays exactly the same." Amber shot back, gesturing for him to think of a new memory.
His eyes flash from his glassy eyes to his bright yellow eyes. She smiles, gesturing for him to explain. "Okay, so it was kind of, no a lot satisfying when I was able to climb the tree, I mean I wish you saw the look on your fa...hey, it kind of looked like that." He laughed as she glares at him. She didn't even see her facial expression in the mirror she was only looking at Knight.
"Is all your satisfying memories pertaining you one up-ing me?" She snapped. His amused smile was still on his face and she moves to slap it, but he caught it right beore it made contact.
He always does that! Stop stopping them, and let me slap you for once.
His eyes glowing a brighter yellow.
One thing's for sure, that's definitely his eyes for satisfaction and I didn't know how much I would hate to see them until now.
"I will admit it is one of my favorite type of memor...ow." He laughed, mimicking her crossed arms. "Aw, did I hurt your feelings..."
"You're so annoying." She answered shaking her head. Let's focus. "Let's do happiness, and for the record it should be very similar to satisfication. And I swear, if you have another memory of you one up-ing me, I'm going to slap you so hard that your emotion of happiness will quickly go to pain." She threatened ignoring his laugh that followed.
His eyes changed slightly, but not by much. The only difference was there was dark golden specks in the mist of bright yellow eyes. His eyes already look like werewolf eyes, but his happiness eyes especially look like werewolves eyes she has seen in her past years.
Werewolves usually have the eye color gold, but Amber has orange because of her vampire side. Luckily, orange is similar to gold anyway, no one suspects much about it. She just hopes Knight doesn't suspect anything about it.
"So I was thinking of the time...it happened a year ago, anywho, I defeated this vampire. Okay let me start all over.
So I was walking down the street, I don't remember what street, there's so many. Anywho, I was walking and all of a sudden this vampire jumps out of nowhere. He had a thick British accent and the clothes he wore was clearly not of this century, so he must have been at least two centuries old.
Long story short, I killed him with my gold dagger and that made me happy because moments before I was the one who had the dagger to the throat, but I overpowered him, so yeah." Knight rambled, losing Amber part of the way, but she got the gist of it.
"Huh, okay." Amber responded not knowing how to exactly to respond. "Wait, there's not that much streets. Faire may be huge, but it mostly has a few main roads that goes everywhere. Not many little ones. You don't remember?"
He shook his head in response, but Amber thought she saw something testifying against his silent response.
She was going to question it when Knight asked, "is there another emotion?"
"Yeah, let's do surprise." She said, completely losing her train of thought. His bright yellow eyes turned to a golden orange. Mixed perfectly between gold and orange.
"Do you still want me to tell you if it's about you?" Knight questioned.
"Knight, don't be stupid. If it's about me that's an automatic 'tell me' moment." She replied, giving him an incredulous look. Of course she would want to know. "And if it is an one up moment I am going to hit you...but I'll make this easier on you, if you don't tell me because it just so happens to be a one-uping moment, I'll keep punching you until you tell me."
"You know a simple 'please tell me' would have sufficed." Knight answered taking a step away from Amber. "I thought of the time you told me you ran away at twelve, I mean it definitely caught me by surprise. You were really young to be off on your own."
Oh I was young alright, like younger than the age I told you.
"At first it was hard, but you get used to that life style soon enough." Amber shrugged off, suddenly not wanting to continue with this conversation or training itself.
"Sorry, I suddenly feel exhausted, I'm gonna retire for the day, but you keep going. Later on, I'm going to ask you what your three new emotions are and I'm gonna put you to the test." Amber challenged.
"Three!? That's quite a lot don't you think..."
"We went through five of them already. You'll be fine." She interrupted walking out of the bathroom. "Keep practicing." She scolded with a small smile on her face.
"Aye aye captain!" He shouted, saluting Amber.
"At ease soldier." She nod at him, before walking to her room.
"Ugh, why do we always get on to the subject of my past?" She stressed, closing her bedroom door behind her and flopping down on her bed. "I don't know how long I can deal if we keep going back to this topic."
Just gotta survive the three weeks. That's it. Don't give anything away in the meantime.
Please, I never gave anything truthfully away about my past, I'm definitely not starting now.
