Chapter 16
AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW
She flops down on her bed, suddenly feeling wide awake. She lies there for seconds of what seems like she was thinking of nothing, but suddenly her thoughts are awakened and in an uproar.
I can't believe I'm the ultimate champion, I should've won all three rounds.
That last question seemed like a stupid question, but every question asked so far, I learned from it. I actually feel like he's finally opening up to me... SLOWLY.
But slowly is better than nothing after all. I think even I'm very very slowly, slower than Knight, but I think... even I'm opening up to him. I've been truthful so far as questions and Connect Four goes.
Though, I don't think I could ever completely open myself up, and I think he's the same way.
Not to mention I already lied to him about my childhood, so there's that as well.
Ugh, and he still drives me crazy and is highly annoying, but I think... I think I can tolerate training him for these next three weeks. Hopefully that's enough time.
Not that I even have time. Time's running out for me, and maybe if his training with me goes well... I can at least have a fighting chance.
But that's barely a possibility.
And it's hard to believe I have a chance when the vampires grow stronger with each passing second. If my vampire side ever surfaces, I don't know if I'll be strong enough to stop it. I could possibly hurt Knight...
I just won't let it come to that. All I gotta do is make sure my anger is under control.
How hard can that be?
She slowly gets up from her bed and flashes in front of the window. If Knight was there he would've probably been concerned, because not only is that inhumanly fast, but also too fast for werewolves.
But if he's not there, then he doesn't know. And what he doesn't know, most likely won't kill him.
She looks behind her at the door, smiling as she sees no one there. She opens her window's latch and steps through.
She quietly runs over to the front of the house and climbs the tree they were sitting on yesterday. She has to admit, it's already one of her favorite places to be, with a breathtaking view.
"Wow, I don't know how the mountains do it, but each time I see them, their even more beautiful. I can get use to a view like this." She says smiling. She hasn't been this happy at just seeing the mountains since her last full moon run in the mountains, and that was several months ago.
Yet again, she doesn't remember when she last felt this sense of peace of no worries. Its been several years.
No matter how happy she is seeing the mountains, or even actually being in the mountains, it's nothing like her desire to be in the ocean. She knows full well that she lied to Knight that night they were arguing. She said she was a "mountain" person, but that's far from the truth.
The truth is, the mountains is just what's available to her. No one from Faire goes to the ocean without having to fight the government's guards to do it.
"How I would love to see the ocean. To be..."
"Are you talking to yourself?" Knight's voice comes from behind her. Her heart stops beating, her stomach tightens, but once she registers who said it, it's starts beating again. Scowl replacing her smile within a second.
"Well, look who's popping up out of no where now. I thought that was my thing." She said bitterly, not even looking down at Knight.
"I thought I should give you a taste of your own medicine." Knight teased, having Amber's attention snap at him. She watches him lean on the base of the tree, looking at the mountains, getting comfortable. She couldn't help, but be annoyed at him being there.
My moments of peace and much needed loneliness down the drain.
"What are you doing here?" She snapped, her eyes growing darker with the amused smile he shot at her.
"Is this your tree? Last time I checked it was on my proper..."
"Shut up." She interrupted, looking over at the mountains, the moment of peace gone in a instant.
"Aw, did I struck a cord? I didn't mean to press your buttons...granted I didn't know you had any." He teased again, but his smile on his face was gone when he saw the look on her face.
"Knight, enough." She growled.
"Oh come on Amber, what is it with you? One minute you're fine and the next you're not. Why the sudden change in personality?" He asked, silencing Amber.
Channeling my inner werewolf.
Channeling my inner werewolf.
She looked down at him, staring intensely into his orange eyes, no longer his normal, golden, eyes.
"I think I know how to start off training with you." She replied after several seconds, completely ignoring his previous question.
"That's not exactly what I wanted to hear." He sighed, but he looked up with his usual curious gaze in his eyes. "But what do you have in mind?"
"I need to ask you something first." She said, trying to think of the best way to phrase it. "I know you don't know how to control your werewolf side. You're actually the first natural born I met who doesn't have control, and I came across a lot of natural borns. I know your parents didn't train you, and I'm gonna trust that as time passes you'll tell me the truth as to the reason why, but all this information still doesn't explain why you...introduced yourself to me the first day of school...well, first day for you. Why?" Amber asked, knowing her ideas are all over the place.
To be completely honest, it has been the question she's been wondering about since day one about a month ago.
"Not what I expected you to ask, saying how we were on the topic of train..."
"Could you answer the question?" She asked genuine, not demanding. She honestly wanted to know if he would give her the answer.
"What?" He asked, slightly confused at the tone and the wording itself.
"I'm not a fool Knight, we both have secrets. We both have things we don't want to share with each other." She started off, and for a split second, she thought she saw a look of guilt flash across his face, but it was so fast, she convinces herself otherwise. "I'm just wondering if this...question is one you can answer at this time."
"I don't think I can, not yet anyway." He finished. Amber slightly disappointed, but nodded, she figured he would say that.
"Just promise me one thing?" She asked, getting down from the tree to stand in front of him.
"Yes?" He questioned, getting off the tree as well, standing taller. Definitely uncomfortable at the moment.
"When you feel ready to tell me, promise me you will tell me." She asked receiving a smile and a nod from his end.
"Good, well until then, don't be surprised if I try to guess the answer." She emphasized, which made Knight chuckle at the thought. "Many times too." She quickly added.
"That sounds fair enough." He said, running his hands through his black hair before putting them in his pocket. He's the first person Amber's ever met who has fair skin with dark black hair. Not that many people have that trait, especially in Faire.
"Perfect, let's go inside and start training." She said walking ahead, leaving Knight behind along with her trail of thought about him.
Finally, training starts.
This could go one of two ways: really terrible or not too terrible.
Let's hope it's not too terrible, but yet again I never trained anyone before.
Yeah, I think this whole training thing is new for the both of us.
So in that case, this shouldn't go too bad...hopefully.
