Chapter 15

KNIGHT'S POINT OF VIEW

Knight sets up Connect Four on the living room table, the only game he decides to play. He doesn't want the game to run too long or they may be too tired by the end and not even want to train afterwards.

He walks over to the counter right outside of the kitchen and grabs his cup of orange juice. It's twenty minutes past 8:00A.M.

Great, I know she said to wake her up at eight, but I'm still a bit unsure if I should. I mean the last time I woke her up, she completely went berserk on me.

Maybe give her 'till the thirty.

Knight gulps down the last of his juice, going into the kitchen to pull out some more.

"You know when I said 8:00A.M. I actually meant it." Amber's voice comes up from behind. Knight's heart stops beating for a couple seconds before he turns around, a scowl on his face.

"Stop doing that!" He scolded, crossing his arms.

"Doing what?" She questioned, her amused grin on her face, hand on her hip.

Instead of responding right away, he just turns back around and grabs the orange juice out from the refrigerator and starts pouring some into his cup. He gestured to Amber if she wanted some, but she shook her head, still smiling.

"You know exactly 'what' it is you're doing. Lately all you've been doing is popping out of nowhere, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought you were a vampire, flashing in and out of everywhere." Knight answered, not missing the flash of fright cross her face.

Interesting...well, I know she hates vampires, can't blame her for being scared of them.

She scowl, crossing her arms."Don't joke about that, that's not funny..."

"I never said it was, nor did I mean it as a joke. I'm serious. If I didn't know you were a natural werewolf, I would have guessed you were a vampire." Knight said, no hint of amusement in his voice. He didn't mean too, but the way he said "natural werewolf" was emphasized all the wrong way and got Amber to notice it.

"Why so much hatred in those two words: 'natural werewolf'? You would think because you're one that you wouldn't have any hatred for your own kind," Amber acknowledged, staring intensely at Knight as if that would give anything away.

"I didn't mean to make it sound like that, but...ugh, nevermind." Knight cut off, ignoring the curious look Amber threw at him. He walked over and sat on the chair across the couch, so Amber could have the couch. If he wants to stay up, sitting on a comfortable couch is not an option.

"What did you mean by it?" Amber spoke, as she cautiously looks at the couch, conflicted on whether she wanted to sit on it or not.

"Amber, the couch isn't poisonous, you can sit on it." Knight joked, hoping to turn the subject around.

"Don't dodge my question Knight," she glared, before fully sitting down on the couch. "And sorry if I was a little worried that your couch was covered in food stains. What if one of them was fresh?"

Knight couldn't help, but laugh at her accusation. "The couch, along with the food stains, are old, it was there before I even came here. I would be lying if I didn't feel the couch the first time I came here, but just like it was then it still is now: dry and clean."

"When did you get here?" She asked, a small smile spread across his lips. He officially got her off the werewolf topic.

"You're asking too much questions." He shakes his head, handing her the red chips. He moves to put his black chips into the game, but was stopped by her incredulous look. "What?"

"I don't get to choose the color? Such a gentlemen," she snort, but smiled when he gave up his black chips. She happily gave him the red ones, the unlucky color in his opinion.

"Spoiled brat." He glared, but softly asked "you do know how to play, right?"

"Of course I do." She boasted, putting her chip in, dead center, right where Knight was going to put his. Knight sighs, putting his chip on top of hers.

"You're such a drama queen..."

"Am not!" She dramatically retorted, placing her next chip. "So how do you want to play this? Because me just placing a chip doesn't get me anywhere with who you are as a person."

"Man, nothing gets past you, huh Sherlock?" Knight teased, shaking his head. "Whoever wins asks the other person a question, but the person who asks does not give any answer. It's the prize of winning the game. You get to ask whatever question your heart desires to know about the other person."

"'You're such a drama queen'." She quoted, looking over the board intensely before placing her chip next to her first one.

"Hey, that's my nickname for you." Knight protested, refusing to be called that. "Or one of my many nicknames I have for you. I'm not gonna lie, it does match you the best."

"Well, as the official drama queen, I passed my throne down to the most dramatic, annoying person I've ever met." She said, smiling at the look Knight gave her. "So what question should I ask?"

"That's my line princess..."

"Is it?" She questioned holding up her chip and placing it where the three became the four. Knight throws his hands up in the air, frustrated that he was one move away from his connect four and that he didn't block hers earlier.

"This game is rigged." Knight complained, crossing his arms. Amber mimicked his stance, only she had a amused grin on her face.

"So as I was saying earlier, why so much hatred for natural borns when you're a natural born werewolf yourself?" She asked. He sighs, immediately regretting the decision of playing this game.

When I think she dropped the issue... man I was stupid for thinking she'll drop the issue.

Fine, I'll admit it I'm just this stupid uncontrolled semi-werewolf that everyone thinks is so bad to be. Everyone hates semi-werewolves, probably even more than vampires, which is hard to believe because vampires are so terrible.

So what makes me just as bad? Or even worse?

Yeah, don't tell her that.

"Great, I'm gonna regret playing this game." He mumbles, sighing loudly. "I don't know, it's just how...how could anyone possibly expect me to love what I am if I don't even know how to control it?"

Knight blinks several times, but he's positive, even if it was for a split second, that Amber's face showed sympathy.

She doesn't know what it's like, right?

Why would she show concern?

She's showing...sympathy. Huh, she never showed that emotion to me before...

It's freaking me out!

"Sorry, I didn't know you felt that way. I would be lying if I said I've never felt that way before." Amber sympathetically replied no hint of her sarcasm anywhere, scaring Knight even more.

"Thank you?" It came out more as a question than an answer, but he can't stop the astonishment coursing through him. Not only did she feel sorry for him, but she admitted that she felt the same way before.

She gives a shaky laugh, not calming down any of Knight's nerves. "Sorry I made things sooooooo awkward."

Knight soon finds himself smiling. "It's definitely not what I've expected, especially coming from you Miss.Competitiveismymiddlename."

She starts laughing, shaking her head at the same time. "What? So me winning classifies me as competitive?" She asked, laughing at the knowing look Knight gave her.

"No, the game didn't have to prove that." Knight responds, rolling his eyes at her.

"Let's play again shall we?" She asked rolling her eyes back at him. It's both frustrating and amusing that they both know how to roll their eyes too well at each other. Not to mention, like doing it to each other. "For the record, that new nickname is far too long for comfort..."

"Who said anything about 'comfort'?" Knight said with an amused grin of his own.

"Just place your stupid chip in or I'll do it for you." She snapped, making Knight's hand stop midair. If she just let it go, not saying anything else, he would have placed it, but now this moment's too precious to do so.

"Salty are we? You know I think my new nickname for you is Snappy Crabby." He laughed as she threw all her chips at him. All scattered on the floor, only a select few hitting him. "Was that really wise? Now you have to pick them all up."

"First of all, that was actually quite satisfying despite you thinking it's so hilarious." She sarcastically responded. She starts picking up the chips, still looking up at him. He sits there, his amused grinning growing wider. "Second of all, don't call me that or you're going to be known as Mr. Grinch until I find something worse..."

"'Mr. Grinch'? Wow, I didn't know it was Christmas, last time I checked, it was Summer."

"Ugh, you're a foul one, as charming as an eel. You're personality stinks. You stunk far more than a skunk anyday. The air in your house stank with your stench." She ended and Knight instantly bursts out laughing, clenching his stomach for support.

That was priceless, made absolutely no sense. I guess for the three words that best describe the Grinch, but still.

"Wow, I didn't know you wrote poetry." He sarcastically laughed, catching the fist that came to his arm. She tears her hand out of his grip, a slight growl escaping her lips.

"I tried, but because you're so irrational, I'm not even making any sens..."

"Yeah because I'm the irrational one." Knight said rolling his eyes as she goes to sit across from him. He finally places his chip, on top of hers.

They play in silence, both of them too intent on winning. Knight shakes his head every time Amber blocks his four, and Amber murmurs under her breath every time he blocks hers.

"Yes, finally!" She shouts as she put her last chip in, completing her four. Knight runs his hand through his hair, sighing heavily.

"This game is so rigged!" Knight shouts in frustration. This, of course, only makes Amber laugh at him.

"So as I was saying earlier, when did you move into this house?" She asked curiously as she placed her chips in her box. Knight does the same for his.

"Man, you just don't let things go, do you?" He asked back, receiving an amused grin from her end.

"I didn't make up the rules, I just follow them..."

"Yeah, that's the first." Knight snorted, but sighed, suddenly feeling defeated.

You get ready for training Amber because I'm going to make it hurt...and make it so I win all the time.

That's not the reason why you're training her...

You're right, it'll just be the bonus!

"The week before I started school at your high school." He said, surprising Amber.

"You've only been here..."

"About a month." He finished for her.

"Wow, I expected it to have been longer, wait so where were you living before here?" She asked. Knight's freezes, fear coursing through him, but he quickly pushes it aside replacing it with a small smile.

"You'll just have to win to find out." He debated, dodging her question.

I really really hope she doesn't win, or I may even have to...bend the truth just a smidge.

You haven't done that yet, why would you start?

Because she can't know the truth of where I came from, not yet anyway.

Please have me win the next one, please!

"Okay, this will be our last game, then we'll take a hour break." Knight spoke up after placing his chip in the dead center. Amber follows his lead and puts her chip on top of his.

"So, what you're saying is, that I am the ultimate champion." She sneered.

"Not everything's a competition." He answered. She does her small victory dance, making Knight want to walk out of the room. "I swear, right now, you're driving me crazy..."

"Huh, wonder where you got that line from." Amber sarcastically commented, rolling her eyes. He couldn't help, but smile, thinking about when she used it on him.

"I learned from the best..."

"Well, you may want to keep learning. Conn..."

"Nope, it's mine turn. So thank you for pointing out your possible Connect Four, I'll make sure to block it." Knight said amused and relieved. That was a close one.

"Whatever, I can still win." She huffed, placing her chip to an open area. He places his next to his chip, lost in the thought. She scrambles to place her chip, trying to speed things along.

Knight's smile suddenly grows at the trap that he laid out on her: a two way. She blocks one of his connect fours, not realizing that he had a second one. He places his chip in, completing his four.

"Finally I win!" He shouts triumphantly, waving his hands in the air, too overwhelmed with excitement.

She rolls her eyes at him, but gestured to him to ask away. He didn't think this moment would ever come, he doesn't know what to ask her.

"Uh, what's your favorite holiday?" He asked. She shoots him an incredulous look.

"You could have asked me anything, and you ask that? I mean you could have asked me what I physically and mentally did to train myself. Ha, you could have even asked me how I was going to train you."

"Its not too late right?" He asked suddenly feel stupid that she could come up with better questions for him to ask.

"It's far too late. My favorite holiday is Halloween because it's the one day where I don't have to hide. I can be myself." She said, smiling at the raised brow he shot her. "It's the one day out of all 365 days where I don't have to be in my human form in front of humans."

"Wow, when you put it like that, it probably would've been my favorite holiday too..."

"What's yours?" She interrupted.

"One of my favorite holiday, or day in general, sort to say, is the day after New Year's. The day I decide to break every new year resolution and enjoy myself for another 364 days before I continue the cycle again." He mused, a smile on his face.

"You do know that's not the point of a New Year resolutions, right?" She laughed. "Okay, as amazing as this time has been, I'm quite exhausted and going to take a nap. In the next hour, I'll start us off with training."

"Sounds good to me." He yawned, out waving goodbye to Amber.

"Hey, you won't hear this often so don't get use to it, but this was a good idea to play games. You're right on getting to know each other before training." She turned around and looked back at his astonished and amused grin.

"Did Snappy Crabby just tell me I was right?" He asked receiving a glare from Amber.

"I told you don't call me that. Ugh, you're just doing a splendid job on ruining the moment." She rolled her eyes before walking into her room and locking it behind her.

He packs away the game, relaxing on the couch. "I'm glad I won that last game, and as terrible as she is at times, very frustrating and annoying practically all the time, I don't want to lie to her. I want to stay as truthful as I can be." He whispered shrugging to himself. "The secrets comes out when I can trust."
