Chapter 22

AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW

Amber attacked the only thing in sight: her pillow.

She forcefully threw her pillow down on her bed, pounding on it several times, letting her anger out.

How dare he! Use me to what? Find out what I am?! Like I would even tell him if the world's ending...never, never, NEVER, will I tell him.

Ugh, just when I was starting to trust him a bit, now we're back to square one...

Worst than square one!

I knew this was a bad idea. I told you to not do it, but you never listen to me...

Because you're always right.

Don't get sarcastic with me!

I must admit you are right about one thing, I can't trust him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not after that stunt he tried to pull. It's not like he doesn't have secrets of his own, I'm just mature enough to not pursue them.

Okay, I get why you're mad, but why are you this mad?

He was trying to use me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I was saying, I haven't seen you this mad since that time Tyler told you the Headmaster was the one to blame for the kidnapping thing...

Oh, don't even get me started, he only said that to buy himself some time to escape, I could have finished him off then! But no, I just had to be caught off guard blah, blah, blah...you know, some part of me always knew it was the Headmaster's doing, but now that I know he's truly the one behind all this, but doesn't come to me in person? Now, that's being a coward and it makes me furious to think someone so high and mighty sits on his throne while letting his servants do his dirty work.

Ooh, I like this anger, keep going. Think about the Headmaster, think about KNIGHT! And how he betrayed you... your eyes are actually starting to glow red, which only means you want me to surface and end Knight's life. Totally understandable, you know I would love to do it.

It doesn't mean that! I'm serious, no more killing for the fun of it! I'm done killing! I'm done fighting, but because you had to be a part of me and I'm so unique, I don't really have the option of not fighting. Your kind will just keep hunting me down.

Just look at yourself, you're a freak show! You don't suspect that if a werewolf knew what you were they would hunt you down too? I know they would because you're not normal.

You don't know that, my kind's probably...is actually a lot more kinder than your kind.

What proof do you have of that? Let's do a profile list shall we? Do werewolves hunt down vampires?

Yes, because vampires usually start it.

Amber, there's a reason why semi-werewolves are the worst even worst than the newbies for vampires and that's saying something.

Things changed from then...

But the fact is, you still don't like or trust semi-werewolves, you hate them and their your own kind.

Well, I will admit I highly dislike them. What they did wasn't right...

That's my point Amber, you say we are the bad guys, but it's really black and white in terms of perspective.

She takes in a deep breath, refuses to let it out until her lungs were ready to burst. A bad habit she developed when she was a kid, but at least it calms her down.

As much as she hates to admit it, more than anything in the world, she has to agree with her vampire self. It is black and white, and she doesn't trust semi-werewolves, and they're her people too.

"I just need to go outside. Just need fresh air." She told herself. She opens her window and stepped through, leaving it slightly ajar, so she can slip through it later.

She sticks with back side of the house just in case Knight was in the front or on his tree. She felt slightly better to be out in fresh air, but still felt shaken about Knight and how close he would have found out something was different if she followed through with his plan.

"Amber!" That familiar voice sent shivers down her spine. She turns around to see Knight running up to catch up with her. Seeing him made her furious all over again.

She continues walking forward, head held high. "What? I'm not going to leave you." She felt like she said that phrase for the hundredth time by now.

She whirled around to face him. He had to force himself to stop running and back track a few steps. "Oh, but you wouldn't believe me since you don't trust me." She venomously answered before storming away from him.

"Hey, I'm trying to say I'm sor..."

"I don't want to hear it."

She swirled around as she felt his hand on her shoulder. Fiercely, she ripped it off, turned around, and continued walking.

"Look Amber, I don't know how you knew..."

"That's what you call an apology?" She incredulously asked. Her eyes narrowed making Knight even more uncomfortable.

"Let me finish." Knight desperately answered. Amber didn't cut him off, which was her way of giving Knight the all clear sign that would only last a few seconds until she flies away.

At least she would, she could.

Fortunately, he got the message. "But even if I did confront you about my plan and told you, I didn't see how it would affect you, I was only thinking about myself, and I'm really really sorry." Knight pleading for forgiveness made Amber slightly less furious and a bit more uncomfortable.

Ugh, go back to being more furious...He looked really sorry...and I don't like this feeling...of whatever it is.

Now, you're acting like an idiot, he just tried to use you!!!

"You're right." She venomously answered before continuing, "you were only thinking about yourself!"

He didn't say a word or move a muscle. She kept going before she could stop herself. "Have you ever thought that the reason why I agreed to do this training thing was for you?! Yeah, sure I needed help, but I felt so sorry for you that I said 'yes' to your ridiculous plan to try to help you because I knew if it was the other way around, and I didn't know how to control...this thing inside me, I would want help."

Still holds some truth huh?

Shut up.

"Wow, I didn't know you..."

"Had feelings." She bitterly finished for him before walking away, but he grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks.

"Yes, I didn't know you had feelings." He teased, but it only made her more angry with him. She rips his hand off her shoulder and started speed walking away, but he ran to catch up with her, this time using both his hands to grasp both her shoulders, forcing her to stop and look him in the eyes. "What I was really going to say was I didn't know you felt that way, that you were actually thinking about me..."

"Right, because I'm so self-centered, and only think of myself..."

"Amber, stop, please." He pleaded with her, which surprisingly, got her to quiet down long enough to hear what he had to say. "To be honest, I thought you were thinking about yourself, which isn't bad!" He quickly added, seeing her eyes darken in color. "It's important to know how to fight and I think it's very admirable to want to work on that, sometimes you have to focus on yourself. I just didn't know your main motive was to help me, when I selfishly only thought of myself. I'm sorry."

He let go of her, his eyes trailed down to the ground. The remorse, the regret, the guilt he felt came rushing over her all at once and she immediately felt her heart soften.

Her vampire side didn't like that answer.

"Well, someone once told me it's okay 'to focus on yourself'. It's going to be hard to get over what you did and try to do, and I need time to do so, but if you want, you can come along." She replied, making a smile appear on his face. "But I don't want to hear a single word from you. You owe me that much." She quickly added, not liking how fast his smile appeared on his face.

"You won't hear a thing." He said, sounding a lot lighter and happier. She raised her brow at him, crossing her arms. "Starting now." He quickly answered.

Amber started walking towards the forest. The place always calmed her, for the most part. As long as they stay away from the Black Forest she's good.

Hearing the birds chirp made it clear they weren't in the Black Forest which comforted her. She couldn't handle another confrontation with a big tiger or vampires at the moment.

The seconds quickly ticked to minutes and the minutes quickly became hours. Soon enough the sun was beginning to set and she was still walking further into the forest.

"Amber, I know I'm not allowed to talk, but we've been walking since morning, it's probably been way over twelve hours which means at least another twelve hours round trip. I think we should head back."

She paused for a split second to turn around and face him. "You're not suppose to be talking."

She continues walking forward, Knight reluctantly at her heels. She knows it going to be a while before they get home, but she's okay with that.

She must admit, the twelve hours they've been walking he hasn't said a word besides the conversation ten seconds ago, it's longer than she thought it would be.

I guess I gave him the silent treatment long enough.

Please you've done longer.

True.

"Would you want to turn back around?" She sighed, not wanting to, but will do if he says "yes".

"I'll go back when you're ready to go back." He responded, slightly surprised she talked to him first.

"Look, I don't do this often, but I'm trying to at least be semi-considerate, so if you want to go back, you have to tell me now." She responded a bit more firmer.

"As I said before 'I'll go back when you're ready'." He responded using the same tone. His gaze soften a bit. "For the record, you're more considerate than you think."

Yeah, though you're making it hard to be considerate right now.

"But thank you for thinking of me." He replied in a softer tone than the last one.

She continues walking not knowing how to think of this encounter.

He says earlier he wants to go back, but now he's alright if we don't? Man that's confusing.

Suddenly she turns around. Knight stops in his tracks, but she keeps going. "What are you doing?" He calls out to her.

"Heading back. It's going to be at least another ten hours and I'm not using my powers to rush home." She said defiant, her decision made already.

He runs up to walk beside her smiling. "Good, because I know I said I would keep walking, but frankly, I'm tired of walking."

A small smile creeps on her face. "You're not off the hook, we still got several more hours to go." She respond.

Seconds later they hear a howl off in the distance.

"Huh, some must have transformed early, full moon isn't 'til tomorrow night." She replied carelessly. "Of course some like transforming to their wolf form just 'cause, so they could be doing it for fun. I would if I could." She mumbled that last part, which fortunately, Knight didn't focus on.

"Wait, full moon is tomorrow!?" Knight asked frantic receiving a sideways glance from Amber.

"Yeah, why?" She asked suspiciously.

"Nothing just... transformation. Full moon is when I'm forced to transform mid-stage, but it's intense, I can barely think straight when I transform during full moon." Knight answered. Amber turned to him surprised. He stared back at her lift his shoulders as a sign of what is it?

"Huh, that's weird usually those who don't know how to control transformation, transform to their wolf form..."

"What about you? What do you transform to?" He asked suddenly, making Amber slightly suspicious until she processed what he said.

"Oh honey, like I would transform. Those who are forced to transform are the weaklings...no offense." She responded snarky, amused at the idea.

"None taken." He responded sourly.

"Just stating the facts." She commented satisfied.

The awkward silence came again, but it ended too soon by Knight. "Hey you know a lot about werewolves and vampires, right?"

She raised her right brow at him for a response, in a matter of you should know that by now.

Knight rolled his eyes, something he learned and mastered too well with the couple months he known her. "Well, tell me something."

"What?" She asked lost and confused with where this is going.

"Tell. Me. Something." Knight broke down. "About werewolves and vampires."

"What would you like to know?" She asked, slightly suspicious and curious, but after a while, she stop caring as she waited for him to ask her something. And waited.

"I don't know, tell me something of vampires, do they have powers like we do?" He finally asked having Amber look at him as if he were crazy.

"Obviously, I mean they always transform into wolves." The sarcastic voice was evident enough, but if that didn't give it away, the words surely did.

"Very funny. I meant...I don't know how to describe it very well, but our powers not our werewolf powers, but the powers that come with being a werewolf." He answered, and Amber was immediately caught on board, but he kept going. "For example, my lightning powers."

"Yeah, sorry, I was a bit confused, but now I know what you mean by 'powers'." She answered almost sounding apologetic, but her rush words took the apologetic tone out of the conversation. "No, they don't have powers..."

"Why?" Knight interrupted, annoying Amber.

"If you let me talk, maybe I'll tell you." She responded irritated, waiting for Knight to stop talking. Finally he did stop, but she still waited for a couple minutes to make sure he wouldn't talk over her. She can practically feel and sense his anxiety over knowing the answer, even though he's walking with an expressionless face.

"I don't know why they don't have powers, but yet again, why are they faster than us in speed and healing? Why can they fly? It's just the way things are." She acknowledge and when Knight didn't respond right away, she decided to go further into depth. "But they do have a huge advantage that if a vampire had it, werewolves would be doomed."

"What you mean 'doomed'!? What's the advantage?!" Knight asked anxious and nervous. He grabbed her shoulders forcing her to stop walking. "Please, tell me, I can barely wait any longer."

It hasn't even been ten seconds since I told you.

"Shapeshifting!" She blurted out.

"'Shapeshifting'?" He repeated, confused and unimpressed.

"You don't understand they can turn into anything they want, and smell like that thing. So you know how they can look like humans, but their vampire stench gives them away? Well, when they transform they have the smell of whatever they transform. You wouldn't know they are a vampire until it's too late. They can transform to humans, donkeys, dragons, unicorns, anything, even werewolves." She stated horrified at the thought of it.

"Wow, that's bad. How many are there?"

"It's extremely rare to have, there may not be any vampire alive that has it. It's random and the last time someone had the power that was centuries ago and she died..."

"It was girl?" He asked, his eyes widen.

"Yeah, it doesn't discriminate between girls and boys, any vampire can have the power, but the vampire who had it always drastically decreased the population of werewolves and humans, so my guess is that those who receive this power, bring destruction with them." She forces herself to start walking, Knight trailing behind, trying to grasp everything Amber just said.

"That's why werewolves are in danger if there's a shapeshifter." Knight responded, running to catch up with Amber. He forced her to stop, his stare intense, making Amber highly uncomfortable.

"You know how there are many werewolves going into hiding? What if it's because they know there's a shapeshifter vampire alive...now!"

"I don't know, it could be that vampires as a whole is growing stronger..."

"Think about it, it makes perfect sense. They know there's a shapeshifter alive so they go into hiding to stay alive!" Knight emphasized, slightly confused with Amber's response.

I know he could be right, I just don't want to believe it...

Oh, just shut up already. If you keep answering his questions, I'm gonna have to listen to you two go at it all night.

Man, you're rude, mean, heartless...

Aww, did I hurt your feelings?

Don't mock me! I'm seriously you're always negative about everything. Here's a guy who barely knows anything because his parents didn't talk to him or train him. Don't you feel any sympathy for him?

How about sympathy for me? I'm trapped here, not able to do anything while you take control. Not to mention I hate listening to you guys, mostly Knight. I HATE HATE HATE HIM!!! And I don't understand how you can even tolerate him!

You just hate him because he's a werewolf...

Is he? Or is he something more than just a werewolf.

See, this is where I tune you out, I'm done listening to your make belief nonsense.

"Amber! Earth to Amber!" Knight shouted, finally getting Amber's attention. He relaxes a bit, but he still looks tense.

"I'm sorry, what were you say... oh I remember, and to be completely honest, you could be right. That could be the reason why they're going into hiding, but there's one flaw to your suggestion." She brushed off, continuing to walk forward.

"And what is that?" He asked not skeptical, but curious.

"If a shapeshifter reveals themself to a werewolf, they kill them before they can tell the tale to anyone." Amber stated matter of fact, rather blandly, to hide her fear of what he says is true.

"Well then that slightly makes me feel better because then there's a possibility that there is no shapeshifter, and those who are in hiding wouldn't know there was a shapeshifter unless they're dead, so the end of werewolves won't come soon, hopefully." Knight responded.

"I agree." Amber spoke softly. This conversation made her a hundred times more fearful than she was before, because now, she's actually starting to accept the fact that their may be a shapeshifter, and that scares the ghost out of her.

"Um, do you want to change the subject for a while?" Knight suggested, noticing the tension and the silence that followed after Amber's previous statement.

"I would love too." She brightly responded.

"Well, is there anyway we can get to the house faster than slow?" He half-joked causing them both to have small smiles.

"We could always go slower than slow." She teased, hiding her true feelings of wanting to go faster as well, just doesn't know how.

"Don't deny it, I see the tired look in your eyes." Knight said amused, making Amber smile grow wider.

"Fine, I'm tired, but that doesn't mean I don't want to keep walking." Amber lied through gritted teeth. "Besides, ever since I've been staying over at your place, I've been eating so much food, it's about time I burn it off."

"You hardly eat anything..."

"Yeah, but before, I would just have a chicken sandwich, for the whole day, but I ate it around 5:00p.m. so it wasn't so bad." Amber acknowledged feeling she won that battled, but she only received a startled look.

"How are you even alive?" Knight asked skeptical and creeped out.

"Four words: a lot of water."

"Wow, that's...something." Knight replied.

"Hey, change of subject a bit, but I suspect you go out on full moon nights, so could I stay in the house by myself?" She asked out of the blew, smiling as he rolled his eyes.

"Fine, but STAY OUT of my room. It's a huge mess with a bunch of old food with mold and dirty underwear and..."

"Dude, seriously? Like I would even want to go in there." She shoved him away. He slowly walks back, softly laughing. "And can I just say eww." She shouted in disgust, scrubbing off the imaginary grossness off her arms.

"Just warning you that's all." He responded satisfied.

"Man, if this is what I have to deal with all night, it's going to be a long one." She sighed.
