"So you had a date.... with your dad?" Matilda scoffed as she leaned up against the locker next to me.
"Yeah, and the ice cream was good as hell so shut up." I snapped back, watching as the familiar figure from yesterday appeared around the corner. My eyes squinted, trying to get a better view, but shrugged it off as I noticed him walking along with Jacob.
"What are you looking at?" Matty spun herself around, her eyes trailing the hall.
"No one, nothing," I hesitated, Matilda raising her eyebrow up at me.
"Yeah, okay."
"Do you know where Lucas' lives?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows as I tried to remember the face I saw yesterday. It was blurry, maybe because our staring contest only lasted to about 3 seconds or because my father smiling as much as he did made me forget about the hours before, but it was hard to remember the giant that walked off the sidewalk just because I was blocking the way.
"No," She stretched throwing me a very confused and concerned face, "why?"
"Well yesterday while I was out --"
A loud yell cut off my sentence, making me scrunch up my face in curiosity and confusion. We both turned to see where it had came from. We weren't the only ones either, as you could see the other by standers watched as the tall figure turned the corner. Jacob stood there, shaking his head as he leaned up against the blue, metal lockers behind him.
Suddenly a loud crashing noise echoed through the silent school hallways. The angered voice screaming right after as well. Matilda ended up jumping back into me. Being unexpected, my books fell out of my hands, papers flying everywhere. I ignored the loud noise that followed after my math book plumid to the ground and watched as Jacob's eyes went wide. Clicking noises followed, making me search for the noise.
Hannah was the girl my eyes connected to. Her long legs scurried around the corner, her brunnete locks sweeping over her shoulder. My eyes roled in a mocking expression before bending down to help Matilda pick up my items.
"Isn't she the reason why he's pissed?" I asked Matty, as I stood. She handed me my notebook and pencil pouch before shrugging her shoulders.
"To be honest," Matilda began, "I don't even care."
Before starting a whole new topic, the first morning bell rung. I fluttered my eyes shut in disgust and said goodbye to Matilda before walking my way to first period, math. Shaking my head at the horrible mornings I had to start with, I walked into class with three other students. Walking to the back of the class, I decided to take the window seat where I could glare at the sprouting flowers and colorful leaves coming back.
"Okay, class before we begin I would like to welcome a new student today. If you could please come to the front of the class and introduce yourself..." Mrs. Smith's words faded as the small figure walked to the front of the class.
"My name is Benjamin Hitch, but you can call me Ben. I'm 16 and hate most things in the world." He shuffled his feet back and forth on the ground as he clutched on to his skateboard. Mrs. Smith's eyes rolled to the side as he finished.
"Thank you Mr. Hitch, you can sit down now." She patted him on the back with her old claws.
I watched as he seated himself in the back as well, but sat on the other side of the room. Glancing my way back to the trees, Mrs. Smith began to talk about something we probably already learned, but had to relearn thanks to exams. Watching as the wind blew outside, the flowers next to the tall tree began to wave back and forth. The stem wiggled it's way to one side, almost snapping in the process. My eyes analyzed the flower well, knowing it become a Lily in the future.
I started to drown out the teacher and the tapping of pencils as I stared down the Lilies and other items burning under the morning sun. Before my thoughts wrapped themselves around me and left me totally unfocused from math, something soft had hit my shoulder. Spinning around, the boy besides me rose his eyebrow in a questioning form. Looking down at my feet, a curled up piece of paper laid on the floor.
Turning my attention back to the window, I pretended that I had felt nothing. But 5 seconds in to staring out the window, another paper ball had bounced off my shoulder. Flaring my nostrils in annoyance, I snapped my head back to the boy beside me.
"Throw another one, I dare you." I glared at him, his eyes squinting as he smirked.
"And what will you do about it?" He questioned, his smirk getting wider.
"You're dating Emm, aren't you?" I smirked back at him, his smirk fading as I continued. "It would really suck if she knew how many times you've actually cheated on her."
"You wouldn't dare to do such a thing."
"Throw another paper ball at me again. Let me destroy what you've worked so hard for." I grinned at him as he shook his head. "That's what I thought."
I placed my head back into my palm and watched as the clouds glided past each other. But in the moments I wasted staring out the window and threatening Poppy, only 15 minutes had gone by.
"Anna," Mrs. Smith's voice shouted excitedly, "can you come up to the board and tell me what to do here?"
"Uhm," I hummed staring up at the board. Different arranges of numbers combined over a division sign with multiple fractions placed beneath it. In other words, I had absolutely no idea what it was.
I scratched at my head, snickers and whispers were exchanged as I scrunched my eyebrows together. "I.." I began to spit out words as Mrs. Smith waited impatiently.
"You don't know do you?" She licked her lips, tapping her fingers on her skin.
"No..." I sung, wrapping my fingers around my pencil.
"Well today in detention, instead of looking out the window, you can be coping all the notes that they did not have to." Poppy began to snicker besides me. My eyes trailed towards him, raising an eyebrow to warn him. His smile began to fade once again as his hand dropped back down to his paper.
"Fun," I whispered to myself before looking back out the window. Watching the lily flow with the wind once again as I awaited for the bell to ring.
And soon enough the stem snapped, right before the bell rung.
