"I wanna give myself away,
You must be worth it."
- Pia Mia, Red Love
I sat down on the side of the sidewalk, my jaw clenched and my stomach twisting and turning. I let out a heavy sigh as I began to rock back and forth. The voice inside my head repeated over and over again -- Idiot, you stupid idiot. And it was true, I was a fool for believing the girl, but I was also drunk off my mind.
Worry and anger bubbled up inside of me and punching the locker didn't do much but make knuckles bleed. Reaching into my sweatshirt pocket, I took out a pack of cigarettes. The lighter was stashed in the packet as well. I pulled out a cigarette and the lighter, putting the rest back into my packet. I placed it between my teeth before lighting the lighter.
I watched as the flame flew with the quiet wind. Before it blew away and danced along with the humming of the trees, I lit my cigarette. Breathing the nicotine into my lungs, I put the lighter back into my pocket. I fluttered my eyes shut as I exhaled the chemicals. Placing back on my lips and opening my eyes, my ears began to listen to the sound of clicking. Not even bothering with looking behind me, I knew exactly who it was. Hannah.
"You know those things kill people?" She giggled. I could already imagine her twirling her finger around in her hair, her way to perfect teeth shining in the sun's light.
"That's the point." I hissed back before taking another drag. Flicking the ashes behind me, a gasp left her mouth.
"You almost got them on brand new heels!" She shouted at me.
I laughed in response, "it must be fun having money and being perfect."
"Speaking of perfect, if I'm marked absent because of you then I'm going to sue you."
"Sue me? Because your perfect attendance has one little mark besides it." I laughed again. I wasn't just laughing at her, I was laughing at myself knowing that my drunk side wanted to get this. "Well, then princess, scurry on and leave me alone."
"But I came out hear to say thanks for getting me grounded," I stood up and threw the cigarette on the ground. Stepping on it, I walked up to her. Her eyes trailed my movements as she smiled.
"You're welcome, sweetheart." I smirked before walking back into the school.
And believe it or not, that smirk didn't leave my face till lunch. When I met Anna.

"Listen up," the old women held her book in her hand as she banged her free hand on the table, "no talking, whispering, giggling, throwing things, or doing anything you'll regret. Stay quiet. If you don't have homework, you read, and if you don't have a book, then you can sit there and wait. If I hear one peep out of any of you, you will be written up for another day with me." The women glared up at me before sitting down on her chair. I shook my head before picking up my notebook and pen and scribbling worthless things.
Tune out the static sound of the city that never sleeps. Here in the moment on the dark side of screen.
I began to draw swirls around the title; Disconnected. Wires and little notes were drawn around the entire page. As I watched the ink flow on to the page, I could feel someone's eyes connected to mine. I turned my body to face the seat next to me to find a girl, a familiar girl to be precise, staring at me. A smile slowly appeared on her face as she rose her notebook. The page was now inked with her beautiful writing; What are you writing?
I turned the page of my notebook and scribbled my messy writing on to the page. How is that any of your business? I wrote, holding it up. She squinted her eyes before placing her notebook down and writing more on to it.
I was just wondering. Why so mean?
Listen I don't want to hear it if you are asking me about Hannah.
Why would I ask about Hannah. I hate her.
You look like one of her friends.
Please, if I was one of her friends she would be dead.
Yeah, okay.
My name is Anna.
I didn't ask.
Well now you know.
Turning the page since the old one was now scribbled on, I opened to a fresh new one. Her small, fragile hands held up a new fresh page as well. A smiley face was scribbled on to it. I shook my head at the image and scribbled on to the new page.
So Anna, why are you stuck in detention?
I killed someone.
And why wasn't it Hannah?
Oh, dont worry shes next.
Am I on this list, Ms. Anna?
I dont know, do you want to be?
I wouldnt consider. I think I would end up killing you.
Just because im a girl and you're a six foot giant doesnt mean anything.
If you think about it, it really does mean a lot.
She smiled a bit before placing her notebook back down. I watched as her hand diligently pressed the pen to the paper and wrote out something I wasn't able to read until she stood it up.
Well Mr.Hemmings, I didnt know we were sexist.
Hey, im not sexist, do you see me wearing a 'make me a sandwhich' shirt?
You wouldn't be able to pull it off even if you did.
Why are you even talking to me?
Because you seem interesting.
Well guess what Anna, im not.
To me you are.
I folded my notebook back to the front, I began to pack up everything. Grabbing everything off my desk, I picked myself up from my desk and walked to the front door.
"Just give me detention tomorrow," I told the old women before she could shout back to me. Before I swung the door open, I looked back the girl who was named Anna. I watched as her saddened eyes looked away from mine and back to her notebook. I let out a sigh before walking myself out of detention and to my locker. I put my stuff away, grabbed my book bag, and left school.
Only to have the one girl who seated next to me in detention fill my thoughts.
