"Take my hand and
we will shine."
- The Vamps, Wild Heart
"What kinda of special?" I hummed, biting at my cheek.
"A very strange special."
"Is that a good kinda of strange?"
"Well I'm taking you to a dance ain't I?"
"I guess that speaks for itself."
"You guess!" he shook his head. "I never go to the school unless I have too."
"Listen," I spoke sitting myself up, but still being halfway out the window. "you need to go. If my father catches you, I'm dead."
"I know." he said, making a scary face. "He's terrifying."
"He's overprotective." I corrected. "Like someone else I know." I looked away, making it obvious I was talking about him.
"Oh c'mon." Lucas sighed. "I'm trying to lay off."
"I'm sorry, but Lucas, have you seen any other boys drooling at me?"
"They will when they know I'm with you." he winked as I tossed my eyes to the side.
"Butt head, get out of here!" I pushed his shoulder. He leaned forward and went to kiss me, or at least that's what I thought, until he left his mark on my cheek. "Bye." I muttered.
"Bye." he sung, smiling cheesily. I threw him another annoyed eye roll before smiling and watching him climb down the rose vine until his head disappeared. I went back inside and closed the window.
That's when my dad walked in. His face full of disappointment and fury.
"What do you think you're doing?" he asked, closing the door behind him.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh come on Anne, don't even try that act."
"Dad--" I went to start, but cut my own self off. "I'm sorry."
"That's it, only Matilda can come here for the past two weeks you're grounded."
"What, dad!" I shouted, throwing my hands in the air.
"No, don't 'what' me. I told the boy to stay away from you and he didn't listen. Plus you helped him with his act."
"I didn't let him in!"
"Doesn't matter you knew you were grounded."
"But I want to go to the dance tomorrow."
"You lost the chance."
"Dad-" my dad slammed my door shut, walking away. I took a pillow and threw it across the room, letting out a loud yell. Slowly breathing in and out afterwards didn't help the tears from falling. I had no way to tell him now that I couldn't make it.
Unless...
I wiped the tears away and ran to my drawers. Pulling out a purple zip up, I threw it on, and ran for my window. Before leaving, I locked my bedroom door and then ran for the window. Hoping out of the window, I pulled the slide. I then ran for the side, climbed down, and with that I was off to Luke's.
Where I knew I would be so much happier.

"So you climbed away from your dad after he told you that you were grounded for two weeks." He scrunched his eyebrows together, scratching his nose.
"Yeah, but don't worry, my dad had to go back to work after babysitting us."
"Wait, are your parents..." his words faded as he criss crossed his fingers together.
I shook my head, "No, they separated after my dad became in love with his job more than my own damn mother." I chuckled. "Jackass."
"At least he's still in your life." he looked down to his thumbs, playing with them in his lap. "My dad left as I was a newborn. Now look, my mom's gone. I don't know any other family members."
"But that's not your fault." I reassured him, only receiving a glare and head shake.
"It is though. I ruined my mother by chasing away her lover."
"I have a question, Lucas?"
"You always seem to do." he smiled, making sure I took it as a joke. "Anyways?"
"Are you scared?"
"Of what?" he questioned, looking around the room.
"Of me leaving you broken hearted?"
"Oh don't worry about it, honey, it's already shattered into pieces."
"And I'm still figuring out how to get to it."
"Why so you can cut yourself on the pieces?" he shook his head. "You don't have to worry about me."
"Do you truly mean that though, Luke? Do you really want no one to care?"
"Yeah, I do." he answered, looking back down to his shoes. "So when I die, no one will even bother."
"Have you ever heard about it doesn't matter how many followers you have, as long as you have enough to support you? I think you should really live up to it."
"Don't be a bitch, Anna." he smeared, looking over his shoulder out the window.
"I'm not. You need to learn whether you have thirty friends or two, as long as they mean something to you, they'll forever stick with you."
"I don't have anyone I can truly trust."
"What the fuck am I then? A tree?" Lucas chuckled along with me. "C'mon, you have to be more like punk rock about this." he shook his head at me before leaving another kiss on my cheek. I began to blush, but it slowly faded away as I went to speak again. "You know what, you need a support. Like an activity?"
"You're kidding me right?" he laughed, a tad confused about what else to say.
"You can sing!" I jumped up. "Remember they're having the band sign ups. I bet you would totally make it!" I cheered and Lucas just kept laughing.
"You're ridiculous."
"No, I'm a genius!" I grabbed his wrist and dragged him behind me.
"Where are you taking me now?"
"I'm going to show you what living is, Mr. Hemmings."
"What?"
"Can you play guitar?"
"A little bit."
"Well," I stopped in my tracks looking back to him. "we're going to make Lucas Robert Hemmings famous, whether he likes it or not."
