Let's Kill Tonight

I hate to self advertise, but it's the only way I can get people to know about my books. I have the first chapter of my new Percy Jackson book out. It's called Return of the Hero. Please vote and comment

When I awoke the next morning, Raven was in my cabin again. I don't know how,I'm pretty sure I locked the door. Oh wait.......she could shadow travel, dam it! Honestly,it was still kind of creepy even though she had been doing this for years now. It was pretty much the standard morning routine. I wake up,find her staring at me,freak out slightly, and get up because otherwise she'll call my sister so Hazel can convince me to get out of my nice bed. Except when we first met,I hadn't found Hazel yet. Back then Raven would just tip me off the bed. She would pick up one end of the bed with the strength she inherited from her father and I would simply roll off and hit the floor. Luckily she stopped doing that after a while.

"Ni-co." She said my name in a singsongy voice. What the Hades?? Raven never acts like this! Well, not when she's in her right mind anyways. I couldn't help wondering if she had been drugged again or something. It definitely wouldn't be the first time. Let's just say that Raven and I have quite a history with Aphrodite.

"What?" My voice was all rough with sleep.

Raven winked. Okay, that settles it, she's been drugged. "You're going to miss lunch and our training session if you don't get up." Everyone knows not to wake me up before eleven unless it's an emergency,or they're suicidal. As for the training session, she was still technically my teacher even though we were no longer in the underworld. My father wanted her to teach me for two reasons. One: in the underworld,Raven was the only teacher available that was actually a living person. Hades thought that I should be around other living heros, even if Raven was kind of not so much of an all out well known hero anymore. The second reason was that she had more than a century of experience and was skilled with just about any weapon. There was another reason my dad wanted her in the underworld, but it had nothing to do with my training. She was as good of a musician as Orpheus, and the screams from the fields of punishment got pretty annoying after a while.

She stood up and sauntered over to the door."See you later hottie."

WTF?! She was most definitely out of it. Then again, she's unpredictable even normally. I just had to wonder if Raven had really meant what she had said. She was just too unpredictable and mysterious to tell. I just hoped that the older girl had been serious.

Finally, after three years at Camp Half Blood,I finally knew where I really belonged. I was a child of Poseidon. I'm pretty sure that Raven knew that already and just didn't tell us. She doesn't tell us a lot of stuff.

I mean,I only just found out that she was training the freakin' Ghost King today when I saw them sparring in the arena. She was giving him instructions and afterwards they just sat around and talked like they were best buds or something.

Then I left to talk to Percy. When Percy and I returned to the Poseidon cabin,I just had to facepalm. Raven had split the cabin into two different rooms and installed a door on her side. We found her halfway under one of the beds, looking for something. "Um-"

At the sound of Percy's voice,Raven jumped, hitting her head and unleashing a stream of curses in what I think was Italian. Knowing my sister, what she said probably would've gotten her arrested in Italy. Raven curses like a drunken sailor. She glared at us. "What. Do. You. Want?" Although my sister seemed deadly calm,I knew from experience that she could explode and just completely lose it at any moment.

"What did you do to the cabin?"

Raven sighed and shook her head, still scowling darkly. Then again, when did she not look all grim and dark? She scared me like no one else did. "I've split the cabin into two sides. The room with your stuff is the boys' side. Mine is the girls' side." Raven avoids talking to people when she can,so even this conversation was progress.

"But you're the only demigod daughter of Poseidon here."

"Exactly. I rather enjoy being alone. This way you can't barge in and startle me into dropping my experiments and blowing up the place. " She shot a pointed glare at Percy.

"Good point."

Raven turned back towards her project." I'll be finished by nightfall."

Wow. Really? I never knew that she could work that fast. Oh well, she always was married to her work. As she turned away from us,I noticed something. Her glasses were off. Her eyes were closed.

Hae-Joon and Percy came out of the renovated ' girls side' of the Poseidon cabin. There was only one girl for goodness sake! Percy looked a bit confused, and Hae-Joon seemed deep in thought, troubled by something. "Hi guys. What's wrong?"

Hae-Joon replied kind of airily. Or at least he attempted to." Nothing, nothing. Everything is just fine."

Percy snorted." You mean everything is fine besides the fact that our sister is separating the cabin because she's an antisocial mad scientist."

Hae-Joon didn't seem to be paying much attention to what was being said." Yes,of course. Well, let's go....... somewhere. " What could he have seen to disturb him in such a way? Maybe he had accidentally opened Raven's mini-fridge full of severed body parts that she used in her experiments. I even found a cookie jar full of teeth and small bones. And remember, this is when I'd been sharing a cabin with her for literally only three or four days.

In that short time frame, she had already managed to scare the living daylights out of my twin and I with her pets. Tarantulas, snakes, lizards, murderous looking birds ,she even has a pet skeleton fish! Most of her live animals were poisonous and Raven researched the venom. That is not a healthy obsession for a girl her age. Seeing any of that would most definitely be enough to creep Hae-Joon out. None of that was normal. Then again, none of us are normal either.

Noah and I went to our archery lesson with our older brothers. I totally kick butt when I'm armed with a bow and arrows. My brothers, not so much. If we're being honest here, they really, really suck at archery. But Percy is famous for being the camp's best swordsman until out sister came along, and they, along with Hae-Joon, control water. Noah and I are shape shifters. As far as I know, none of us can cause earthquakes, but Hae-Joon and Leo had fun yesterday blowing things up and that can sure shake things up. Sometimes Hae-Joon can act just like a little kid. A dangerously armed little kid.

But today he was serious. There was something that was niggling at him, but Hae-Joon,being his usual stubborn self, wouldn't tell us what it was. I decided not to pry,I'd end up losing the resulting argument anyways.

We gave up archery after Noah accidentally shot Hae-Joon on the butt. That got rid of his brooding expression real fast.

                      Hae-Joon's pov
By the end of archery,I was totally pissed. So far today I had been cussed out by my older-but-at-the-same-time-younger sister, been flirted with by Drew,I'd been shot in the rear with an arrow due to the fact that Noah is as bad at archery as Percy and I,and I still wasn't any closer to figuring out what was going on with Raven.

I winced as I sat down on my wounded behind at dinner. Noah looked sympathetic, but I could hear him snickering. I punched him on his arm.

"Ow!" The little booger boy glared at me and rubbed his now sore arm. "What was that for?"

I glared at him." That was payback, now shut up." Don't get me wrong,I love the fact that I had new siblings, biological siblings to be precise, but Noah especially got on my nerves. Sometimes I could almost understand why Raven avoided people. What I couldn't understand was why she was all like 'alone protects me' and 'sentiment is a defect found on the losing side' and her whole thing about being married to her work. Did I believe that Raven was incapable of love? Sure,it definitely seemed that way.

Did I believe that she isn't fond of us? Sometimes, and if she doesn't like us,I can't blame her. From the little I've heard ,she's had a pretty horrific past. For all I know,we could just be a constant reminder to her about whatever happened. Still,I hope that I'll one day actually see her happy.

You might be wondering why I care about Raven so much even though she doesn't like people in general. Well,it's complicated, but to put it simply,it's because she's the only sister I have left.

You read it right(unless you're dyslexic like me,then you might want to double check), there used to be more of us,more children of Poseidon. Most of them were my full biological siblings,a handful were my half siblings. But this was decades ago. Now Raven and I were the only ones left who remembered that time. And she remembers so much more.

I'm 87. Like I said,it's complicated. This form I'm in now is really a disguise of the mist. Normally I'd look about 25 years old. As for Raven, I don't even know her true age. And I'm never going to ask.

And she disappeared again. I heard the faint sound of a violin. Raven was at it again.

I sighed. Overall,it had been a relatively peaceful day, compared to our usual schedule. Of course it didn't last.

We just had to be attacked by-well,I actually don't know what they were. But Raven did. She hissed out one word before slipping a strange tube down from her sleeve and into her hand. "Demons. "Okay,I'm really going to have to talk to her about her habit of hiding weapons everywhere. Once I found out that she had concealed explosives inside Monster Donuts.

When Raven saw them come closer a cold, sinister smile appeared on her face. "Boys, let's kill tonight." The tube elongated into a silvery blade with markings carved into it. "Raphael!" The sword seemed to come to life with a blaze of light. Raphael? Was that some sort of code? Wasn't Raphael the name of one of her vampire friends?

Raven had plunged deep into the fight. Black blood steamed on the ground. It appeared to be like acid. But there were no bodies. The demons seemed to disappear after being killed. The fight was over in minutes. In the middle of all the carnage stood Raven,an eerie smile illuminating her face. "It is over."

That seemed to be the cue people were waiting for. Everyone cheered and went to go tend to their wounds. I noticed that most made sure to stay away from my creepy sister. I couldn't blame them. They were scared, and they hadn't even seen her fangs yet. There was no one like her, dark and still and dangerous, like she's daring you to set her off. And she was powerful. Would she be the destroyer of the world,or its savior?
