Camp Jupiter
the rest of the book will be written in third or second person. Maybe . I haven't decided yet
. Raven's pov
I sat alone in the darkness,as usual. And I was thinking,as usual. But today I wasn't thinking about my experiments. No,it was something else entirely. What made me lose control around Nico recently? I honestly don't know what came over me. I do not feel, therefore I cannot have affection for Nico. Aphrodite probably just drugged me again, for the fifth time this month.
The cool darkness of the night disappeared all too soon, replaced by annoyingly bright light. My type and a few other types of vampires may not burn in the sun,but I had been living in the underworld for a long time and I was used to dim light. Oh well,I guess that it's time to wake up Nico.
I shadow traveled to his cabin and heard him shifting in his sleep. I sat down on the bed. "Dude, wake up!"
Nico blinked sleepily. "Mmph." I threw a pillow at him.
"Up. Now."
He groaned before sitting up and pushing me off the bed." Fine."
I dragged him to the dining pavilion fifteen minutes later. Everyone stared. "Um,what are you doing sis?"
"Making sure death breath eats his cereal."
Nico groaned. "Did Demeter put you up to this?"
I stayed expressionless."Nope. I just feel like being annoying today. And your father did tell me to make sure you ate something other than happy meals and pomegranates."
Nico put his head down on the table. Poor guy,he usually sleeps more. Oh well. " Not again. Last time you did that it ended up in an all out prank war with that Egyptian death god you know."
That got Annabeth's attention. "You know Anubis?"
I didn't reply. Percy glanced over at my cup. "What are you drinking?"
"Korean coffee." I took a sip to emphasize my point, whatever it was.
Percy was staring again. "Do all of the things you do include the word Korean?"
I took another sip of coffee. "No"
Elijah looked at me curiously."Have you ever even tried pizza?"
Percy snorted. "Of course she has. Who hasn't eaten pizza in America?"
My face remained blank and I tilted my head slightly. Time for my clueless Castiel act. "What is this thing you call pizza?" No,seriously,I've never tried pizza before.
Percy put a hand over his heart dramatically and gasped. I could hear Leo snickering. "You don't know what pizza is? You've got to try some! Here."
He was so scandalized that I'd never eaten pizza that he gave me a slice off of his own plate without thinking. I poked at it with my finger. "I don't really eat much, but it should be interesting to analyze the chemical composition of this bread based food."
Leo couldn't take it anymore. He burst out laughing. "Dude, your sister is a crackup!"
Piper smiled. "Yupadoodle."
I frowned. "Yupadoodle? What kind of word is that?"
Nico rolled his eyes and grabbed the nearest cup of coffee, which happened to be mine. "A word made within the last two centuries."
I glared at him and took my coffee back. "Oh,low blow Di Angelo. Stop being an assbutt about my age."
"Have you been watching Supernatural again?"
"Yes. You know that I don't sleep very much. Because of that,I have plenty of time to go on Supernatural,Dr. Who, and Sherlock marathons. And I've met all of them. "
"Um,how old are you?"
"That's for me to know, and for you not to find out."
Percy looked excited when he heard that I actually watch TV. The dude probably thought that I experiment and train 24/7. "Have you watched The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo?"
I just stared at him. "I've heard of them, but I usually don't watch children's movies." My childish seaweed brained older/younger brother looked a bit dissapointed when I said that.
Then he gave me the baby seal eyes. "You just have to have a Disney movie marathon with me. We can get the rest of the boys and it can be like a sibling bonding night."
"No."
"Please? We can watch Frozen and Mulan and stuff!" He asked up the seal eyes.
"Still no. And I don't need to watch Mulan. I've practically lived it myself." Piper started thinking.
"What if all of us girls watched a Korean drama and some anime?"
"Maybe. Ocean documentaries are good too. They're a lot more exciting for children of Poseidon. I also can speak with all sorts of animals,so pretty much any animal documentary works for me. Crime shows are good too."
Nico rolled his eyes again. "You and your crime shows."
"What about me and my crime shows?"
"Nothing."
"Oh,your sister IM'd this morning. You were asleep so I talked to her."
Hae-Joon scruintized Nico and I carefully, like he was checking to see if we did anything. Yeah right. "Why were you in his cabin?"
"To wake him up for breakfast. Now that was fun. Not. I was also simply bored and it's fun to annoy Nico sometimes. "
"Oh yeah,I'm sure it's just hilarious to annoy me."
"Hey,doesn't Nico practically kill anyone who wakes him up? And you actually have had fun before?"
"Yes to both questions. And I receive several death threats daily just waking Nico up."
Nico leaned forward." What did she say?"
I leaned back against the pillar in the corner. "She wanted to know if you could visit this afternoon. I told her that you would. She also told me to come. I think that she wants to interrogate me."
He got up so fast that his foot got caught on the bench. "Schist!" He ran off towards his cabin, and I stayed in my seat,a slight smirk on my face. Gods,it's fun to fluster Nico.
Frank's pov
Nico stumbled into the camp at exactly twelve. And he wasn't alone. A beautiful darker skinned Asian girl that looked to be about his age was beside him. There was something different about Nico. For as long as I'd known him,his eyes had been sad and empty, and he had been depressing and creepy. He was still depressing and creepy, but a new fire burned in his dark eyes that contrasted so sharply with his snow-pale skin, and he seemed more alive. If anything,he was scarier than before.
Hazel went up to hug her brother. If it was anyone else hugging him,I'm pretty sure that Nico would not hesitate to rip off their head. "Uh, hi." I always got nervous around the Ghost dude. I mean,he's creepy! "Who's your friend?" If you ask me, Nico's friend was just as emo and scary as he was. I couldn't see her eyes because of her sunglasses, but I could tell that she was fierce and deadly. She was wearing a leather jacket, even though it was hot outside.
"The name's Raven." She was just as unfriendly as the Ghost King too,and had a strange, mixed accent on top of everything else. They both gave off a cold, distant, angry vibe and radiated death.
Hazel looked at Raven suspiciously. "How do you know my brother?" Hazel didn't sound unfriendly, simply cautious and curious. Raven's face remained unreadable.
"I trained Nico. Your father designated me for that purpose a few years ago. I'm still his teacher, even now. "
Nico nodded. "It's true. Hades thought that it would be best if I had someone actually alive to interact with in the underworld." Nico was smirking now. "Besides,Raven had years and years of experience. She's older than me by more than a century."
I couldn't see behind the sunglasses, but I think that Raven rolled her eyes. "For the last time Di Angelo, stop making fun of my age! You're not exactly a youngster yourself. Now,you must be Hazel and Frank. Nico talks in his sleep and mentions you often."
Nico's face flushed bright red. "Why are you even watching him sleep?"
"I don't have anything else to do except maybe freak out Hae-Joon in the morning and eavesdrop on people's dreams and thoughts."
Hazel inspected them carefully. "So you're just friends, right?"
Raven leaned back against a tree. "Yup,"she said, popping the p. "Besides, I'm a daughter of Poseidon and a legacy of Zeus,Hades would have killed me by now if we were anything more than friends." Huh. I thought that she was a child of Hades.
"Oh."
It was pretty quiet for a while. Raven stood scowling in the shadows, becoming practically invisible. I could only see her when she moved. Nico and Hazel talked, catching up with each other. I heard only part of their conversation. "Um,is there something wrong with your friend?"
"Apart from her extreme ADD and experimentation? Yes,there's a lot of other things wrong with her."
Finally,Raven had enough." I hear that the harpy known as Ella resides here. May I go visit her?"
Did she hear about Ella through Nico's sleep talking?" Um,okay. I guess that would be alright. "
She simply nodded once and walked towards the library that Ella spent most of her time in. Hazel looked perplexed." How did she know where Ella is?"
Nico shrugged. "Raven's special."
When we got there,Raven was talking about some book and Ella was listening, seemingly at ease. I watched in awe. So far only Hazel could interact with Ella like that."How did you do that? Usually she's terrified of everyone."
Raven just raised an eyebrow, her grim face unchanging and still expressionless."Let's just say I have a certain affinity with birds." Okay, what the heck did she mean by that? Nico smirked again.
"I'd say." Raven looked like she was about to retort her phone buzzed in her pocket. Would you look at that, emo girl's ringtone is Welcome to the Black Parade. She didn't even glance at the caller ID before answering. "Hello Hae-Joon."
"Raven? There's a slight........situation back at camp. "
She sighed. "It's about the twins, isn't it."
"Um,yeah. I'm not going to even bother asking how you knew that. Just hurry,it's pretty bad. Noah is going through a full scale panic attack, and I have no idea how to calm him down."
"I'll be right there. " She glanced at the curious looking Ghost King. "Sorry, I've got to go. Family emergency." She stepped into the shadowed corner of the library. Then she melted into the darkness.
Hae-Joon's pov
When Raven stepped out of the darkness,I couldn't have been more relieved. She walked over to Noah, who was hyperventilating, and Elijah, who was holding his twin worriedly.
"Hey dude. What's up?" He lifted his head and his breathing started to even up.
"You're alive. Right?"
Raven raised an eyebrow. "I was last time I checked. Let me check again. Pulse, check. Breathing, check. Soul still attached to my body? Kind of. Yeah, I'm alive as far as I can tell."
Noah relaxed a bit more. Raven looked at him. Her face was unreadable, like normal and I couldn't see her eyes because of her sunglasses. "It's because of what happened to our mother, isn't it. She went out and never came back."
Elijah nodded. "Well boys, let me tell you something. Our mother's physical body actually died years ago. The person taking care of you for your entire life was her spirit contained in a mistform I created."
They stared. I stared. Raven started playing crossy road on her phone. "Um, Raven, you're not making any sense."
"Yes I am."
"No you're not."
She huffed in annoyance and muttered something that sounded vaguely like 'Paramecium Brains', which didn't make any sense either. "Don't you know what a mistform is?"
"I've heard of them. "
"Well, mistforms can become vessels for someone's spirit. So when our mother was killed in that accident, she decided to inhabit a mistform so she could continue to care for you two. She got me to make it because I'm the only one left in our family that can do magic. However, that magic was broken the day the card for her mistform was destroyed, and she truly has moved on now. Do you get it?"
"So her ghost raised us."
"Pretty much,yeah."
Noah laughed shakily and Raven took off her sunglasses, revealing her dark, mysterious eyes. "Well, see you guys in a few days. I'm leaving camp for a bit. " She disappeared yet again,as mysterious as ever.
