Magnus Bane
It was midnight. A tired, ragged group tramped along through the woods. There were six of them,a blue eyed young man with pale skin and black hair,Alec;a beautiful girl that looked like she could be his sister,Isabelle;a brown eyed teenager that wore glasses,Simon;a tall teenager with tanned skin and golden hair and eyes, Jace;a fiery haired girl with green eyes, Clary;and a tall, thin Asian man that was coated in glitter and had peculiar slit pupiled eyes,Magnus. The blue eyed one looked at the asian man tiredly, but with love and adoration evident in his gaze. "Are you sure she'll be home?"he asked.
The cat eyed man smiled back. "No, but even if she isn't home, she's okay with me being in her house. But I have a feeling that she's here."
They reached a huge secluded house and the Magnus simply opened the door and peered in. He frowned and shouted," Raven! Get your feathery ass down here!"
Nothing happened,so the others entered in as well. The glittery man frowned some more. "Hold on,she might just be upstairs, ignoring me because she's in the middle of some experiment."
Jace asked,"If she's in the middle of an experiment, why are you going to interrupt her?"
Magnus turned around at the top of the stairs to look at the shadow hunter. "Because I can."
He stepped into one of the rooms. A few moments later,a huge crash was heard, followed by what sounded like cursing in some foreign language. Jace raised an eyebrow. "Well that sounds like it's going well. Not. "
A moment later,Magnus ran down the stairs as fast as he could. A black and brown streak shot out of the room after him. Magnus stood behind Jace and the blur stopped, revealing itself to be a beautiful thin girl clad in all black and silver, with dark brown-russet skin, short black hair that partially covered her face, and big, fierce feline eyes that were so dark, the pupils weren't visible.
She stood in the stairway, shadows seemingly drawing close around her. The shadows thickened, twisting into coils that shot out, binding Magnus' hands and pulling him closer to the girl that was wielding them. She looked intently at Magnus,as if she talking to him mentally, then released him from his bonds of darkness and retreated into a corner with a death glare directed towards the warlock, who was hiding behind Jace again.
"Late night hunt?" Her accent was strange, but familiar and her voice was silky smooth.
"Yeah."
"I see. But did you really have to interrupt me while I was building the syncophator for my latest machine?"
Magnus stared. "I have no idea what you just said."
Clary spoke up."Who are you?"
The strange individual looked back at her levelly. "You don't recognize me? I'm hurt Clarissa. You too Simon."
Clary squinted, trying to remember. She knew she had seen the girl before, she just didn't know where. Suddenly the answer came to her. Clary's eyes widened, and Simon's did too. But it couldn't be her! Sure they looked kind of similar, but it was impossible. They were too different. For one thing, the new girl had dark skin and eyes instead of pale skin and silver eyes. She also had wings. And for another thing, their old friend was supposed to be dead, and would be older than the girl standing in front of them by now if she had survived. Also , Simon was pretty sure that he would remember if his friend was a warlock. Surely the wings were a warlock mark. She couldn't possibly be an angel, even if she did have an aura of power.
"Raven? Is that you?" Simon asked, voice trembling slightly as he looked at his supposedly dead friend.
Raven leaned against the wall. "Bingo."
"But-but-how?" Simon was barely able to speak as the shock of finding that his human friend was a warlock hit him.
She seemed annoyed. "I know what you're thinking, and no,I'm not a warlock. Congratulations on your ascension by the way."
"How did you know?" This time it was Clary who asked the question, sparing Simon the embarrassment of stuttering.
"I'm a mind reader," the younger girl replied,as if it was the simplest, most normal thing in the world.
"What's going on here?"said Alec, adorably puzzled.
His parabatai looked up,his golden eyes unreadable, seemingly bored. "I'll be damned if I know."
Everyone looked expectantly at Raven. "Well? Explain," said Jace, blunt as usual.
"I'm one of Magnus' old friends, but I also was friends with Simon and Clary. However, they, like nearly everyone else, believed that I had died."
Clary smiled, the initial shock of seeing Raven wearing off. "But how come you look so different?"
Raven frowned. "I look different?"
Simon was confused. "Yeah, you used to be a lot paler and you had different colored eyes. Not to mention you didn't have the wings......"
"Oh. Well I get tanned really easily and my eyes change color,my hair can too. I've always had wings, they're just retractable."
"How could you not know that you looked different? And where were you all this time?"
Raven pulled out a pair of sunglasses and put them on. Magnus chuckled, amused. Raven always had a flair for dramatics. "The answer to that is quite simple. I'm blind. I have been for years. As for where I was, well,I was in the underworld, training the son of hades."
"What?!"
"Remember, all the myths, all the legends, are true. You know what, scratch that, most of them are true. Anyways, I'm a demigod."
An excited gleam was visible in Clary's eyes. Jace internally groaned. That was a sure sign that Clary was going to have a fangirl attack." Like Percy Jackson?"
Raven nodded." Exactly. In fact,he's my half brother. The reason I have wings is that I'm a legacy of Boreas and Thanatos."
Clary smiled even wider. She was practically bouncing with excitement . "Do you live at Camp Half Blood? Who's your best friend? How can you control shadows? Can you use magic? Can you cause storms? Are you a shapeshifter? Have you been to Camp Jupiter? Have you seen Poseidon's palace? Where did you live in the underworld? Do you like pomegranates? Do you like seafood? Who's the oldest in the Poseidon cabin? Are you good at sword fighting? Are you the queen of something like Nico is the ghost king?Are-"
Raven interrupted before Clary could ask anymore questions." I think that's enough. As for the answers, I live mostly in the underworld, but Camp Half Blood is where my main residence is; my best friend is my student, Nico Di Angelo; I can control shadows because I have the powers of a child of Hades because I'm a legacy of Thanatos; yes, I can use magic because I am a descendant of Hecate and I am a sorceress; I can cause storms and earthquakes; two of my full brothers and I are shapeshifters; I've been to Camp Jupiter ; I have visited my father's palace; I had a room in my Uncle Hades' palace in the underworld; I like pomegranates; in like seafood; physically my brother Hae-Joon is the oldest when he's not using a mist disguise, but in terms of order of birth, I'm the oldest; I'm good with swords, I even beat Percy; I'm the queen of ice and shadows, don't ask; and that's about it." She took a deep breath. "Wow, that's more than I usually say in an entire week or so. "
Magnus deemed it safe to step out from behind Jace." Hey Raven? You have another vampire clan after you."
Apparently, that wasn't unusual at all by the bird girl's standards. To her, something serious like that was only a mild inconvenience. "Again? Well that's annoying. "
"How are you not worried?" Alec frowned, developing a little worry line on his forehead." I'm seriously questioning your sanity."
At this, Magnus burst out laughing. Once he stopped,he explained the situation to his confused boyfriend. "I'm pretty sure she lost all traces of any sanity she had left years ago. She's like Jace, you can never tell if she has a death wish of not. Besides, she fights with the Night Children all the time. Every once in a while one of the clans will decide to challenge her. She's still undefeated."
Simon toyed with his glasses. "Raven? What are you exactly?"
She nodded in the direction of Alec, who was frowning intently. "Ask him. I can tell that he's trying to figure it out."
Understanding and realization dawned on the young man's pale face."You're her," he whispered, his voice little more than a whisper, hushed and filled with awe.
Raven nodded like she actually knew what he meant by that vague reply. "Indeed I am,Alec."
His parabatai looked unamused." Yes, Raven is Raven, she is her indeed."
"No,no," Alec protested. "Don't you remember when I'd talk about history?"
Jace smirked, like his usual arrogant prick of a Herondale self. "Honestly I wasn't paying attention."
Alec glared. "Of course. Do you remember anything about a nonhuman, new type of vampire shadow hunter?"
Jace snorted. "Of course I do. But that's a myth,it's not possible."
Raven had gotten bored, and was now fiddling with a knife that looked like it was made of diamond. "Of course it's possible. Obviously I'm not a myth."
Now Isabelle was paying attention. "That was more than three hundred years ago," the beautiful girl wrinkled her nose. "You can't be that old."
Raven threw the knife and it lodged itself in the center of a target before flying back into her outstretched hand. "And why not?"
She sputtered, but didn't seem to have an answer." And besides, aren't demigods supposed to be half human?"
"Most of the time, yes, but there are a few exceptions. Now,enough about what I am."
Magnus squinted at his friend. "You need to go clothes shopping."
Raven tilted her head slightly in a birdlike manner." No I don't."
"Yes you do! Practically everything you own is black or blue! You need to go clothes shopping, and that's final."
"Anna is planning to get the Aphrodite kids together and ambush me to do just that. I overheard them yesterday."
Magnus rolled his eyes." Fine!" The warlock sat down on the couch with a dramatic wave of his hands. "And I've been meaning to ask you something that's been bothering me for a while. Do you think that the force that protected the London Institute was Jessamine's ghost?"
The blind bird kid sat down next to her cat eyed buddy. "I'm positive that it was her. I even talked to her in the underworld for confirmation."
"At least she can rest in peace now."
"Yeah."
They didn't say anything else, leaving all of the humans present completely confused. Then Raven's phone buzzed.
"Hi Nico. "
A frantic female voice could be heard. Clary frowned." I thought Nico was a guy. "Raven mouthed he is. Then she answered whoever it was on the other end.
"Woah, slow down Annabeth." That made more sense."Why do you have Nico's phone?"
As the daughter of Athena spoke, Raven's face darkened. "I'll be right there."
Magnus stood up. "What's wrong?"
She headed towards the door."Camp's been invaded. I've got to fight."
"But that's suicide! You're blind!"
She didn't even stop to look back."You don't think I already know that? Even if it's suicide,I always knew that I was going to die fighting, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Before anyone could say anything else, Raven was already in the air.
Elijah's pov
It was twilight, and the camp was surrounded by darkness, with only the light of the stars and full moon to help me see.We were being overwhelmed, that was obvious. There was automatons,no actual monsters, and some of the things that Raven called demons. They couldn't be killed by our normal swords ,and their blood was like acid.
Annabeth had already phoned Raven, since her weapons were the ones that seemed to have the most effect on the demons, for some reason. But before she got here,Nico was stung by a huge, blobby demon that my sister had called a Ravener the last time they attacked.
Within a minute,a dark shape was visible in the sky,and it was getting bigger every second. Whatever it was, it dove with frightening speed, slicing open a model of Talos with ease. The jagged pieces of metal ripped like paper as they peeled away and hit the ground. The dark figure stood up, revealing itself to be none other than my sister,sporting......wait for it.....huge black wings that were edged with metal. She cut a path through the hordes of demons.
When she reached our little group, Nico was even paler than usual. His eyes fluttered open weakly when Raven came."I guess it's a good thing that my dad has already prepared a room for me at his palace," he croaked. " I'm going to be joining him soon. Promise you'll stay with me to the end?"
Anna sniffled and murmered, "Another great ship that'll never be," whatever that meant.
Raven shook her head."Nico-"
"Just promise."
"I promise,but Nico,this isn't the end."
He coughed, and blood spattered his shirt."Don't say that,we both know that I can't survive the poison. There's no cure. You said it yourself last time they attacked."
Raven's mouth was set in a grim line. "Correction:There's no cure that normal people can get,but I'm not exactly normal. "
Raven took out her knife and slashed it across her wrist. What in Hades was she doing?!
I watched as the blood streamed from my sister's wrist, entering Nico's bloodstream through the cut on his chest and what I'm pretty sure was magic. His eyes fluttered open weakly once more and his breathing strengthened slightly."R-raven? What are you doing? Stop it you're going to hurt yourself!"
She brushed off Nico's protests."The blood of my kind filters out poison. You'll be okay Nico, you'll be okay."
That's strange. I didn't even know that and I'm a vampire too."Just one question. Why does your blood look weird?"
My apparently not suicidal sister frowned. "It looks weird? Well, that's probably because I'm anemic."
"I didn't even know that vampires could become anemic," Leo muttered under his breath. I'm pretty sure that Raven heard him,but she didn't say anything.
A glowing blue door opened up at the top of half-blood hill. Six people, all human looking, fell through, one after another. Four guys and two girls. Raven noticed them."Hiya! Come to join the fight, have you?"
The tallest one yelled back,"Yeah! I see that these guys don't know how to fight!"
Clarisse turned around, furious. "WHAT DID YOU SAY? I'M GOING TO BEAT YOUR PUNK ASS TO A PULP!"
Now,normally this terrifies people, but the Asian guy just glared. "Excuse me? You're talking to Magnus Bane, high warlock of Brooklyn!" Blue fire flickered at his fingertips and his gold-green eyes flashed dangerously.
Raven rolled her eyes behind her sunglasses." Just get over here, drama king."
Magnus looked offended. "Drama king?! Raven,I invented drama and you know it!"
She looked mildly amused." No," Magnus sputtered in protest when she said that,"I did. Well, technically Zeus did,but I brought it to modern day humans."
My twin looked as confused as I felt. "Let's pretend for the moment that we didn't hear that," he said." What's going on here?"
The warlock surveyed the battlefield, his face darkening and becoming grim, even though there had been no casualties."This is bad."
Raven snorted and muttered,"That's an understatement."
Magnus ignored her and continued. "It's kind of like the infernal devices and the mortal war combined."
My sister nodded. "Yes it is. At least there are no Endarkened. Hopefully."
"Well," the blonde one drawled, "that's cheerful. Why don't you explain to us humans what you mean by the infernal devices?"
"Very well," Raven said, cutting off Magnus before he could start talking. The warlock pouted and stuck his tongue out at her. "About 130 years ago at the London Institute,a young warlock that who was part shadow hunter and went by the name Theresa Gray came from New York."
"That's not possible."
"It is if the warlock's shadow hunter parent wasn't marked. Now shut up and stop interrupting. There was someone,a human raised by warlocks, who would do anything to get her. Her own brother betrayed her. In fact, it was your ancestors,Will Herondale, Tessa Gray, Cecily Herondale, who married Gideon Lightwood, Charlotte and Henry Branwell, and brother Zachariah, and Jem Carstair who was Will's parabatai, that fought against him and his mechanical creations, the Infernal Devices."
Jace raised an eyebrow." I'm descended from a warlock?"
"Yeah, and Will's sister,Cecily,is your parabatai's ancestor. You really are related. And do you know how I know?"
"How?"
"That ruby pendant Isabelle is wearing. Will gave it to his sister, Cecily."
"Are you-are you the vampire that gave it to my family?"
"No. She's dead now." Magnus looked slightly guilty when Raven said that.
She sighed. "Today alone I spoke more than I usually do in a couple of weeks. What is being on the surface doing to me."
Suddenly Isabelle yelped and I saw her pendant pulsing like a heart. Raven drew out a sapphire on a silver chain. It too was glowing. My sister's eyes were unreadable behind her sunglasses. "Another wave is coming." She grimaced. "This time there's Scorpius demons. I hate those guys."
Magnus' catlike eyes hardened." How do you know?"
Raven snorted again. She can be awfully cynical and sarcastic." I have excellent hearing, and Scorpius demon spines make a distinct rattling sound."
Again with the silence." Wow."
Magnus' eyes flashed gold." Too late. They're here."
