Let The Games Begin
Hi! Co author Violet, daughter of Apollo, legacy of Nemesis here! I just want to say thank you for all the reads and that I love you my blue cookies! Okay, the weird thing is, Michaelah started writing the outline for this during the summer, before she became friends with me. Most people call me Raven. She calls me Koneko. But her cousin calls her Raven. Weird how that works. But yeah,I'm going to say thank you on the behalf of Michaelah too since she is currently sulking in the underworld with her books and blood experiments. Don't ask, there's a reason people think that she's a really tan daylighter vampire. But she'll be the one writing the chapter, I'm just writing the author's note. She actually writes all the chapters,we just discuss ideas together. Bye now!
Elijah's pov
Guess what? Chiron decided to hold a tournament! The Romans were participating too. And guess what else? The Stoll brothers signed Noah and I up without me knowing! Their excuse was that they wanted to pit the children of Poseidon against each other in a fight because we are all powerful. They also signed up Percy, Hae-Joon, Nico,Hazel, and Jason. My sister signed herself up. Of course. It seems like she's trying to get herself back in the infirmary.
"No." Percy said when she told him, green eyes hard. "You just barely healed. There's no way I'm letting you fight."
A cold glint entered Raven's shattered looking eyes, broken, but still deadly. "And what makes you think you have a say in the matter?"
"You're my baby sister! It's my job to protect you," Percy insisted.
Raven didn't make eye contact,as usual, but the fierce look she had didn't lessen. "I don't need protection. I'm fighting in this tournament, whether you like it or not." Raven walked away silently, her dark form disappearing into the shadows of the woods.
After our sister left,Chiron came up to where the rest of us Poseidon kids were."You should know by now that there is no arguing with your sister."
Percy sighed. "Yeah." He looked towards the direction Raven had disappeared to,his expression troubled. "I just worry about her. It's bad enough that she's been on her own for so long, but being blind too? And on top of that,if her past was really like I saw in her dreams....."
The centaur's face darkened. "I'm afraid that her past is much, much worse,my boy. Although she has had some good times at parties with my wild relatives, most of her history is dark. I would just leave her be until she decides that the time is right to tell you." And with that, our ancient teacher left to start the tournament. But really? I just couldn't imagine Raven going to a party and enjoying it.
My twin and I hurried to take our places in the seats of the arena. "First up:Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite, and Conner Stoll, son of Hermes! Begin!"
Piper and Conner faced off, both in full armor. Knowing Conner,he would try to win by trickery or by using some magic thing he stole from the Hephaestus cabin. He took the second option, and whipped out something that looked like some sort of gun. It shot marshmallows. So threatening. Leo stood up and shook his fist at Conner. "Hey! That's my marshmallow shooter!" His ears caught on fire.
Let's just say that it was an easy fight.
"Clarisse LaRue,daughter of Ares, and Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena! Begin!" Annabeth won that round. The rest of the fights blurred together because I was anxious for when one of us would get called. They decided to have a couple rounds of the children of the big three battling. It was only a matter of time.
Then it happened. "Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, and Rhyoo Hae-Joon,son of Poseidon!" The crowd gasped. The two of them were pretty much an even match, and they had the same powers. "Sorry bro," said Percy, uncapping Riptide . "I really don't want to have to fight you."
"Same here," replied Hae-Joon, drawing his own sword;four feet of celestial bronze. "At least it's not to the death,or anything like that."
Their swords clashed. Everything was a blur. Hae-Joon was the slightest bit faster and stronger, just barely. But Percy had more experience with swords since Hae-Joon usually dealt in explosives. Water gushed out of the ground, but it was helping both boys. Hae-Joon tried to disarm Percy. Percy blocked. Hae-Joon used his explosives to distract Percy and almost won. Percy parried at the last moment. It was epic,a clash between the two eldest, evenly matched demigod children of Poseidon. In the end, Percy won, though just barely.
"Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, and Nyssa, daughter of Hephaestus!"
"WHOO HOO! THAT'S MY SISTER!" screamed Leo from his seat next to Calypso. Nico won. Man,my sister taught him some serious moves.
"Noah Rhyoo, son of Poseidon, and Phoenix, son of Apollo!" I gave my twin what I hoped was a reassuring smile, along with a thumbs up. Noah won, beaming about his victory, especially since we were both new.
"Elijah Rhyoo, son of Poseidon, and Frank Zhang, son of Mars! "Another collective gasp from the crowd. Archer against archer, shapeshifter against shapeshifter, this was going to be interesting. For them, at least.
Of course the big dude won. Because of our evenly matched abilities, his imposing physical build worked to his advantage and tipped the scales.
"Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, and Raven Rhyoo, daughter of Poseidon!" Only Chiron, Clarisse,Piper,Nico,my brothers,Nico, and Jason himself knew about Raven's immunity to lightning. Hushed whispers spread throughout the demigods, both Greek and Roman, nonetheless. A child of Zeus against a vampire daughter of Poseidon? That was a tough one. Money was exchanged. Bets were placed.
Raven stood at her side of the arena, as eerily calculating as ever. I got the feeling that my sister had already figured out a dozen ways to beat but not kill, our blond superman cousin. She's strange like that, always analyzing people for any weakness, then exploiting said weakness. Raven literally trusts next to no one,but she does trust us more than most.
To his everlasting credit,Jason maintained his composure even under her Atalanta worthy gaze. Then I noticed something weird. Raven was dressed in full black battle armor, but she was barefoot. Nico must have noticed my confused look, because he whispered,"It helps her sense vibration that she uses to detect movement since she's blind." I nodded. It made sense. I guess. I don't know anything about being blind. Yeah, I'm going to stop now.
Jason had the assuredness of a born leader that had fought a hundred battles. With Raven,I couldn't tell, as usual. But my sister was incredibly graceful and sinuous, and could probably dodge any blows easily,if she could sense them in time.
Today she was wielding her Stygian iron sword that was inlaid with pearl and sapphire, named Midnight, after the dark, cold ocean zone full of strange creatures. You know, midnight zone, twilight zone(not the show), like that. Jason had his imperial gold sword.
It was a duel that would forever be remembered and retold at campfire, over and over again. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I'm going to chalk that up to all the stories about my sister's namesake that they tell.
Raven won. Go figure. Jason's powers didn't even really bother her. And on top of that, she was better with a sword.
"This next round will be teacher against student!Nico di Angelo,Ghost King, and Raven Rhyoo,Ice Queen!" Will announced. Did I forget to mention that Will was the announcer? Sorry. Just my ADHD acting up.
Raven seemed annoyed. "I told you not to call me that, even if it's one of my titles."
"Fine," Will huffed. "I'm rolling my eyes, Raven Rhyoo, Shadow Queen, Warrior Maid!"
Raven rolled her eyes. And won. Again.
Guess who was the champion?
