Chapter 1
"I said RUN!!" The voice screamed again. I didn't know who it was and I didn't know if he could be trusted but I ran anyway. I could only see dust and the faint silhouette of people rushing around. I heard guns fire again and braced myself for the impact and pain. But it never came. I kept running and didn't stop, my eyes squeezed tightly shut and my hands balled into fists. The blood rushing around my body, my heart pounding in my ears and my head throbbing.
Everything was going in slow motion. I couldn't see anything and I could hardly breathe. I stopped. It was almost unbearable. My eyes shooting around frantically for something. Anything. But there was nothing.
"What are you doing idiot?! RUN! They'll get you!!!" I couldn't. My feet were glued to the ground, my body completely still. Suddenly I felt something shove me. My body lurched forward and I fell to the ground. A gun fired and I felt a great pain serge up my leg. He kicked me in the stomach and rolled me over. As I gasped for breath my vision became blurry. Then everything went black...
I woke up in a cold dark room. I was spread out on the cold concrete flooring. Slowly, I sat up and observed my room. There was a bunk bed, a tap, a toilet and some sort of desk in the corner with a chair.
"Hey!" I jumped and quickly turned to a face a boy beaming at me.
"I'm Haru! Welcome roommate!" I smiled politely back.
"H-hi, I'm Akito," I nervously smiled.
"We'll, nice to meet you Akito! You can have whichever bed you like! Top or bottom!" I pointed to the top and he nodded.
"Hey! I said lights out an hour ago!" A bulky man came storming around the corner to our cell "get in be and lights out!" I quickly jumped up to me bed and snuggled into the thin blanket I had.
It was hopeless. I wasn't getting to sleep. It was about 4am and I still couldn't sleep. I sighed and poked my head down to see what Haru was up to. There, I saw him crying. I didn't know what to do, what to say. I've never actually been in an emotional situation before.
"A-are you okay?" I asked as softly as I could. He shook his head. I climbed down onto his bunk and sat next to him.
"Why is your name Akito?" He asked finally. I was quite astonished. No one ha ever asked me about my name before.
"Uh, when I was born, my father wanted a boy." Haru nodded an returned to sobbing.
"Why are you crying?" He turned to look at me for a moment, with his sad eyes and then fell into my chest. He cried into my shirt and scrunched the material in his fist.
"I'm only 13! I was taken away from my parents and I'm really lonely! That's why I was so happy when you came!" He cried. I was quite taken aback by his words but soon, my mouth twisted into a smile, a real genuine smile. He looked up at me with his tear stained eyes and smiled back at me. He got off me and quickly wiped his eyes.
"Y'know, this is the first time I've seen you smile." He said, sniffling a bit. I nodded
"But unfortunately all good things come to an end. But there's one way we can continue being happy."
"And how's that?"
"We've gotta get outta here."
