Chapter 36

Merida's POV: November 20th (Sunday)

"Yes, mum." I sighed as I was told the twenty minute lecture I was given every week. My mom insisted I call her at least once a month, which quickly turned into once a week.

"So, Merida, how is it going? Met any boys?" I rolled my eyes as I could just imagine her grinning across the phone.

"No, mum. No boys." She gave a loud sigh. "Are you sure? There are a lot of cute boys there, Merida."

"Mum!" I groaned. "Can you please stop? This is so embarrassing to talk about!" I wanted to die. How am I supposed to talk about that with my mom when I have trouble talking about it with my friends?

"No, I will not stop until you have a suitor." Gosh. Sometimes Mom is so stubborn.

"Well," I thought about it. "I might have one." I covered my ears and held the phone away as I heard her squeal in delight. "What's his name?! Is he handsome?! Tall?! Muscular?!"

"Uh...his name's Hiccup?"

"Hiccup," she scowled. "Wha' kind of name is that? Your suitor can't be named Hiccup! Might as well marry someone named Cough!"

"Mum," I face-palmed. "It's the inside that counts, remember?"

"Yes, I know," she sighed. "When can we meet him?" Agh! Might as well marry me off to the first drunken hobo she sees.

"You can't meet him."

"Why not?" She asked, I knew she was tapping her foot. "Because he's busy training dragons! Okay, mum?" I was pretty frustrated already.

"Dragons?!" I heard a loud thud.

Oh no. Mom fainted again. I sighed as my father picked up the phone. "Hello, Merida. She'll call ye back later."

"Alright, Dad." I hung up and flopped face first onto my bed. I didn't want anymore reminders about suitors or posture or other princess-y things. I just wanted to be free for once. Actually do something. But for now, a nap sounds fine.

I opened my eye as I heard someone knock on the door. "Jus' a second."

I rolled off the bed and forced myself up and ran a hand through my messy hair. "I already said ta wait!" I yelled as I heard them knock again.

I yanked the door open grumpily but quickly stopped once I saw who it was.

"Hiccup! I'm so sorry! I didn't know it was ye!" I laughed nervously. "That's alright, Mer," he chuckled.

"So," I awkwardly said. "Oh, yeah! I came to ask if you wanted to go to the book store with me?" Uh oh.

"If that's okay with you, of course. You like the book store, right?" I hate the book store. "Who? Me? Oh, I love books! Ye know me, big book enthusiast."

"Great," he grinned. "I'll jus' be right back. Gonna brush mah hair."

I quietly closed the door then proceeded to hit my head against the bed frame. Book enthusiast? Brush my hair?! In what world would I say any of those things?

I groaned and opened the door again with a bright smile. "I'm ready now."

---------At The Book Store---------

"Ever read The Hobbit?" Hiccup asked me. "Uh, yeah, sure. Great, great book." He chuckled. "You know it's a series, right?"

"Oh! Yeah, I jus' thought ye were talkin' about tha first one. It's really good." I turned away and started screaming internally at myself.

Merida! What are you doing?! Just because you like him doesn't mean you have to like what he likes! Ugh!

"Any books you like, Mer?" I looked around quickly. Just grab a random book!

I quickly grabbed a thick book with a grey cover. I wonder what it was. I handed it to him. Fantasy? Sci-fi?

"Fifty Shades of Grey?!" Hiccup burst out laughing. What?!

I snatched the book back and read the cover. To my horror, it really did say that. "Um...yes, I mean, no! I mean...I don't know!"

He kept laughing and I covered my face which had turned fire engine red. How embarrassing.

"Mer," Hiccup gasped for air. "I know you hate books. I know you haven't read any of the ones I showed you."

I turned to him in shock. "How'd ye know?"

"It's obvious, and second of all, I asked Elsa what you like to do." He blushed deeply. "Ye asked Elsa, about me?"
He shyly nodded and my face broke into a wide grin.

"That's so sweet!" He smiled. "Not as sweet as you coming here even though you hate it."

I laughed. "Thanks, but I just didn't want ye ta think I'm stupid or anything. Me mum says I should read and be a lady," I rolled my eyes.

"Oh," he frowned. "No offense, but you're not very much of a girl to me. You're more like a guy. Just...a really pretty guy."

I blushed. "Was that a compliment, or an insult?" He laughed. "Compliment. C'mon. I bet I can help you find at least one book you'll read."

I let him lead me to the teen fiction section and already had doubts. The Fault in Our Stars? Paper Towns? Twilight?

"No, no, Mer. Not those." He pulled me to another section. "These."

I looked up and pulled down a book. The Maze Runner. "Here." He handed me a stack and I quickly leafed through them. Divergent. The Hunger Games.

I smiled. "Go on, open one."

I carefully opened one book and read the first sentence. Woah. Then I read another, and another, and another, and- "Mer, you wanna sit down?" Hiccup chuckled.

"Um," I thought about it for a moment. My mind was still in the world of rebels, arrows, and running.

"You know what? Let me see those." I handed my books to Hiccup and followed him to the checkout.

"Just these?" Hiccup nodded. "Thirty dollars and twenty eight cents." I watched Hiccup with an open mouth as he pulled out the money and handed it to the cashier.

"No, Hicc! Ye can't do that!" The lady looked confused before Hiccup motioned her to keep going.

"Yes I can, Mer." He quickly took his change and the bag and pulled me out. "I can't believe ye did that!" I shrieked. "Well, believe it," he shrugged with a smile. "That's it. I'm payin' ye back right now," I told him and dug around in my pockets.

"Relax, it's fine," he chuckled. "Really," he smiled. "It's okay Mer."

We blushed as he put his hand on mine to stop me from giving him the money. "Well, thank ye," I looked down to hide my red face.

"No problem," he smiled and led me away from the book store. "So, do the Batting Cages sound better?"

Megara's POV

"Hey, Meg," I rolled my eyes as Hercules leaned against my locker. "Do you mind moving? You're in the way of my locker."

"Well, hello to you, too," he chuckled and moved out of my way.

"What do you need, Hercules?" I glared at him. "To be completely honest, you're wasting my time." He frowned. "I was just..." He sighed. "Never mind."

I groaned and put a hand over my face. "Fine, what was it? I can't have you leave with the puppy dog look, and the curiosity is killing me."

He grinned. "I was going to ask you if you'd like to go out with me some time?"

"No." He frowned and furrowed his brows. "Why not?" I took a deep breath. "Because you play girls. I'm not naïve."

He seemed hurt. "That's okay. I understand." Ugh. There it is again.

"Fine!" I gave in. "You and that kicked puppy look." He smiled and grabbed my backpack. "Alright. I'll meet you at your dorm at eight."

"And just where are you going with my backpack?"

He chuckled. "Math? I'm carrying it for you." I sighed. "I'm perfectly capable of carrying it myself. I'm a big girl. I tie my own sandals and everything."

"Well, I'm perfectly capable of carrying it for you because it's the gentlemanly thing to do."

I smiled a little and followed him to class. Since when is Hercules gentlemanly? Is that even a word? I shook my head and took my seat.

"Okay, class," Mr. Timon smiled brightly. "Today you're going to start working on your first project."

We all groaned. Projects were always the worst. Math wouldn't be any better. I hoped and prayed it wasn't a solo thing. "You'll work in partners, which I will assign."

I sighed in relief. It was a little upsetting he got to pick, but at least I wouldn't have to do it on my own.

"Okay, I have all your names on slips of paper in this hat." He held up a Disney High cap. "I'll walk by and you just pick one."

When he got to me, I sifted through the slips until I pulled one out. Peter Pan.
Not too bad. "Peter?" I called out. "Mr. Pan?" Our teacher looked around for the red head. "Mr. Pan!"

"Huh?" Peter fell backwards and toppled onto the floor with his chair. "Ouch."

The whole class laughed and Peter looked up through his shaggy mop with a red face. "Sorry." He quickly stood up and walked over to me. I smirked a little as I saw Wendy was giggling.

"Darling?" I chuckled. "Nice." He scrunched up his face in confusion and tilted his head. "What? Oh." He blushed more.

"H-how do you know about that?" I smiled. "Just a lucky guess."

He smiled back and whispered, "Don't tell no one, okay?" I nodded. "Okay, I promise."

"Okay," Mr. Timon interrupted. "For this project, you and your partner will build a 3D city using geometry." I picked up a piece of paper as he passed them out to the class.

"The paper has different shapes that you have to include. Your city must be creative, and must have color." He aimed his remark at Jack who liked most things to be white.

"Sorry," he mumbled with a small chuckle. "Anyways," the Meerkat continued. "You may use the rest of class to discuss with your partner."

I turned to Peter. "So, what should we make our buildings out of?"

I frowned as I noticed him staring off into space. Or more likely at Wendy. "Peter?" I shook him a few times. "What? Oh, sorry. I just...zoned out."

I nodded and rolled my eyes a little. "So, how should we do this?"

Elsa's POV

I sat at my desk in my room doing homework. Spanish to be exact. I was worried about Anna. I hadn't heard from her all day and I was worried she was mad at me. Actually, I hadn't heard from her for a few days.

Maybe she was...sick?

I sighed and shook my head before going back to my homework. Maybe she was busy with Hans.

Focus, Elsa. You have a Spanish test coming up. Study, study, study.

What is the proper way to say, 'And you?' to an elder? A. Y tú? B. Y usted? C. Y azul?

I rolled my eyes at the last one which obviously said, 'And blue?' The other two were a little trickier. Maybe I could get help.

I picked up my phone and flipped through my contacts. Who to ask, Jack or Tadashi? My finger lingered over Jack's name before I quickly pressed Tadashi. "Hello?"

"Hey, 'Dashi, I was wondering if you knew the correct way to say, 'and you?' in Spanish. It's, 'Y tú?' Right?"

"It's, 'Y usted?'" He chuckled. "Unless you want Chicha to hit you with her sandals." I laughed. "I'm sure she wouldn't do that. She's too nice."

"Yeah, she's sweet," he said. "Um, can you hold on a second, Tadashi? I'm getting another call."

"Sure." I quickly switched onto a new line and Jack spoke up. "Hey, Elsa! Hey, who's the unknown number with our conversation?"

"Oh, that's Tadashi." I smiled. "Oh," he whispered. "Um, hi?" Tadashi awkwardly greeted. "Hey. Uh, Elsa, I was going to ask you if you wanted to come over and watch a movie?"

"Actually," Tadashi cut in. "I was also going to ask her out tonight." I could see Jack's smirk from here. "Well," Jack chuckled. "Looks like I beat you this time."

"Yeah," Tadashi laughed and I could tell he was ticked off.

I sighed as I heard another incoming call. I'm not usually this popular. "Hold on a second guys, I'm getting another call." This time, I put them on hold and answered. "Hello?"

"Is this Elsa?" I listened to the deep voice on the other side of the line and tried to recall who it belonged to.

"Yes," I nodded. "This is Kristoff." Kristoff? Why would he call me?

"It's about Anna. She's been in an accident." My world came to a halt. "Where is she? When did this happen?"

"A few days ago. I couldn't get your number. I've been at the hospital this whole time," he told me. "Please, hurry." I told him I would be there right away and hung up.

Anna's been in an accident. "Elsa?" I heard Tadashi and Jack's voices, but I didn't respond.

Suddenly, the room started to spin and everything was a blur. Anna. I fell onto the floor and curled up in a ball. My body racked with sobs and tears flowed freely.

I let myself cry, for the first time in forever.

Jack's POV

I heard what sounded like the phone falling, and then only muffled noises. "I'll be right there, Elsa!" I shouted before hanging up and throwing on my hoodie.

"What's wrong?" Aladdin asked me from his perch on the top bunk. "Elsa."

I ran out the door and into the hall, zooming past students and dorm advisors. Elsa. I flew once I got outside and bolted into the girls' dormitory.

"Woah!" I yelped as I smacked into someone and we both toppled onto the floor in a heap.

"Please be more careful." The guy groaned and I looked up to see Tadashi. I huffed and quickly stood and opened the door. He looked just as pleased to see me.

I peered in to see Elsa in a corner with her hands balled into fists and frost surrounding everything.

"Elsa?" Tadashi whispered in shock. "Idiot," I mumbled under my breath before rushing over to her and kneeling in front of her. "What's wrong, Elsa?"

"A-Anna. A-Accident," she choked out. I turned back to look at Tadashi to see him slipping and sliding on the ice.

I rolled my eyes and turned back to Elsa. "Where is she?" I lifted her chin up and tried to get the answer from her. "T-the hospital."

I nodded and quickly lifted her into my arms. "Hey! Why are you holding my girlfriend like that?" Tadashi growled.

"I'm trying to help so stop being a dick," I rolled my eyes at him and stormed past, almost knocking him down. "Hey! Wait up!" I sighed as he came running after us.

"Hey, Elsa," I whispered. "Is it okay if I fly us there?" She nodded and buried her face into my jacket. Poor Elsie.

"Grab on," I motioned to Tadashi, holding out my hand. "What?" I groaned. "Are you coming, or not?" He rolled his eyes and quickly took my hand.

"Hold on tight." I squeezed Elsa tightly as I lifted up into the air. Dang. He's heavy. I grunted and shifted around a bit to get comfortable and so I wouldn't drop him.

Though to be completely honest, if he did fall, I really wouldn't mind. Just kidding. I think...

I took off towards the hospital with Tadashi screaming and shouting about how dangerous it was. "At the speed and velocity we're going, if one of us was to fall we would be dead or paralyzed upon impact!"

"I'm sorry," I shouted over the wind. "I don't speak nerd!"

He glared at me as I dropped him on the ground. "C'mon. This way." I led him inside and to the desk. "Hello, what room is Anna Arendelle in?"

"486." I nodded as a sign of thanks and pulled him into the elevator which was thankfully empty.

"Can I hold my girlfriend now?" I gave him a look as Elsa clung onto my jacket and sobbed quietly. "No, but thanks for asking." I smirked and walked out of the elevator once it got to our floor.

"Here it is." He pointed to the right room and I knocked. "Come in."

We walked in and I saw Kristoff sitting with his head in his hands and Anna lying in the bed. She wasn't looking too well. "Anna," Elsa whispered.

I quickly took her over to the side of the bed and helped her to stand on her own. I watched her take her sister's hand and fresh tears fell from her eyes. "What happened?"

"She was with Hans," Kristoff said the name like it left a bitter taste in his mouth.

"He told her that I was using her, and she believed him. She broke up with me. I was walking, and...I heard her scream." He gulped and continued.

"I saw her get hit by a car," his voice cracked and Tadashi rested a hand on his shoulder.

"It's my fault. If I'd been with her, it wouldn't have happened." He broke down and cried into his hands. I frowned and looked over at Elsa who looked like she wasn't really there.

My eyes widened and I swiftly grabbed her as she fell. "Elsa?" I looked at her and realized she had fainted.

"Exhaustion." I looked over at Tadashi and nodded. She was so tired. Having to worry for her sister and seeing her like this didn't make matters any better.

I gently laid her down on the couch and rested her head in my lap. I smiled a little. She was still beautiful. Even when she had puffy bags under her eyes and passed out from exhaustion.

"Hello?" I looked up to see Anna, awake. "Hi, Anna," I smiled at her but she frowned.

"Who are you?" I chuckled a bit, remembering she'd never met me. "I'm Jack. Your sister's best friend."

"Sister?" I furrowed my brows and looked at Kristoff and Tadashi.

"And who are they?" I frowned more as she pointed to the others. "Oh no." Tadashi stood up and ran to get the doctor.

"Anna?" Elsa opened her eyes and saw her. "You're awake," she smiled. "I'm so glad you're okay, I-" she went to hug her, but Anna stopped her. "Who are you?"

The doctor rushed in and turned to us. "We're going to check her out and see what's wrong. It's possible she might have amnesia and we need to run some tests. If you could please leave and come back later, that would be wonderful and very helpful."

"Come on." I pulled Kristoff and a dumb founded Elsa after Tadashi and back into the elevator.

"She doesn't remember me," Elsa mumbled. On my other side, Kristoff was mumbling the same thing.

"Everything will be fine, Elsa," I smiled gently. "Anna is going to be just fine, guys. I promise." Tadashi glared at me as Kristoff and Elsa walked out, pulling me back in.

"Don't make promises you can't keep, Frost," he said sternly. The hell?

I rolled my eyes and strode after them. Elsa was talking to Tadashi while Kristoff just sat, staring at a wall. I decided it was best to just leave him to his thoughts and sat next to him silently.

Kristoff's POV

She doesn't remember me. What kind of sick twisted world are we living in?

Barely a week ago, I wanted to explain everything to her and how I really did love her, and now she doesn't even remember my name.

I hated Hans. I hated that woman in the car. But most of all, I hated myself.

How had I finally found someone, and they were ripped away? And I know she's not actually gone, but it hurts even more to know that she's here and at the same time, she's not.
