Chapter 2
"You did what?" I said in between laughs.
"This is not a laughing matter Lu, Max could have gotten seriously hurt." My mother said in a strict tone, though I saw a slight smile on her face.
"Yeah, he also could have been hurt at the daycare center where the floor is softer than my bed." I said sarcasm dripping from my every word.
"How do you get that injured in that kind of place anyways?" I asked still curious.
"I told you," Max said slightly annoyed,"I was picking up your brother when I ran into one of my crazy ex girlfriends and her new boyfriend on my way here, and I just simply told him that she was a nut job and that he should get out before it's too late."
I burst out laughing and this time Mom didn't try to hold it in and she started laughing with me, tears streaming down her face. Max tends to be very blunt about things, and he's not the sharpest tool in the shack.
After I sobered up I left the kitchen to go do my homework with Max on my heels.
"So, why are you here anyways?' I asked knowing its rude but not caring.
"Do you really think that my parents
wouldn't overreact about this? If I went home, my dad would probably be in the middle of suing the guy for everything he has."
"He just cares about you." I said with a forced smile, even though I knew he wasn't wrong.
Max's dad is a big time lawyer who has more power and money that he knows what to do with, so he showers Max with it. It has its pros and cons.
There was a knock on my door and before I could answer it, it swung open revealing my other best friend Jack.
"Hey, who wants to give me the answers to the bio?" he said while waving our homework packet around in the air.
"Not it!" Max and I shouted at the same time.
"I gave him it last time!" I protested .
"Yeah, but he's dumb and your smart, do you really want your best friend to fail science because he stole the wrong answers?" Jack butted in.
"I don't think you understand how many ways that statement can be taken." I said in awe of his argument while handing him my paper.
"Thanks Lu, your the best!" He said taking a seat at my coral orange desk.
After a few minutes of hearing Jack scribbling down my answers he finally asked, "What the hell did you do to your face? It looks worse than usual." While turning to face Max.
"Don't even get me started." he said in response, though you could barely hear him over my laughter.
We hung out till about midnight which is when my mom kicked the boys out.
"Lucia Ann, that was not proper behavior tonight to Max, he really could have been hurt." she said once he got the boys to leave.
"Really mom? Could you blame me for laughing?" I protested.
I could see a smile tugging at her lips and then I knew that she really didnt mean it. Moms not the best when it comes to discipline.
It was not before long that she couldn't hold he smile back any longer and started laughing with me. That's why I love my mom, she great at the motherly kinds of things nut she's amazing at the friend kind of things.
