Chapter 3
"Good night boys," Katie called out softly to her two dogs Max and Duke. Blowing a kiss towards them, she went into her bedroom and shut the door. A moment later, the light turned off, a clear sign she had gone to sleep for the night. Outside the apartment, dark clouds began rolling in, a thunderstorm coming closer.
Yawning, Max sleepily looked over at his brother Duke. The giant mutt appeared just as tired as he was. "Goodnight Duke," Max whispered. Blinking his eyes close, the larger canine murmured quietly, "Night Max, sweet dreams..." A moment later, the mutt was snoring away. Smiling softly, Max curled up into a ball and closed his eyes. The Jack Russell terrier was asleep in seconds.

Opening his eyes, Max found himself in a dark room. He couldn't see a thing more than a foot beyond his black nose. "Duke?" he whispered quietly, turning in circles. The small dog tried to search for something familiar. But he couldn't see a thing. Instead, he sniffed the air. Rotting flesh caught his attention. And he could hear footsteps behind him. His eyes widening in terror, Max didn't want to turn around. However, he had a slight urge to see who was coming towards him. His entire body shook as his heart pounded in his chest. Gulping, Max slowly peered over his left shoulder.
A pair of red eyes were staring right at him as a gravelly voice spoke, "Hello Max..."
-----
Max woke up screaming.
