Confession

In the morning the citizens that could move started early to get the rubble cleaned up and the buildings repaired. Once we double checked the ones that couldn't move were okay we Dragoniers headed back to our ships. It turned out the other crew landed their ship near ours, so we all headed back together.

I caught up to that woman from yesterday and we fell back a little so we could talk. I didn't have too many questions for her, what happened yesterday definitely said it all.

"Does your crew know anything about what you can do? Do you think it'd be better to tell them?" I asked her.

"That is your choice to make. I eventually did have to tell my crew and they honestly didn't laugh at me or call me crazy. To be honest there aren't many people out their with our gift, but there are a few. It's not like it's taboo or unheard of, especially not to Dragoniers. You have a good crew, I'm sure they'll understand," she said.

"To be honest with you, they aren't really my crew. I'm not technically a Dragonier, I do want to be someday and they are teaching me some things while I'm with them. That said they're giving me a ride to the next town so I can try to find my father, who went missing a few years ago," I said.

"You might not be a Dragonier yet, and you may even be leaving them soon, but I have no doubt that they will always be your crew mates. I'm sure they'll be there for you as soon as you decide to go back. They seem to adore you," she said and smiled at me.

I nodded, but would they still feel the same if I told them what happened? That I was able to talk to a Dragon? I don't know. Maybe she's right though, after all Lana thought I could do it long before I found out I could. Maybe they've also met someone like us before too. I might have a way to bring it up to them, though.

Once on board the ship everyone got to work right away in order to get us in the air again. Feeling useless I went to help Lana in the kitchen. Neither of us really spoke as we worked on the food and I realized then that I had really messed up on that mission. Maybe I really should tell them, but at the same time I'll be leaving them sometime tomorrow so is there a point to explaining my actions?

We braced ourselves easily as the ship took off and went back to work. She still wasn't saying anything and I wondered if she was upset at me too. I know they all called her the silent girl, but she's never been that way with me. I opened my mouth to say something a couple times, but then decided she'll talk when she's ready to.

Once we were on course and the food was all ready everyone entered the dining area. We sat down to eat, but I pretty much ended up sitting alone since everyone seemed to be avoiding me. No one else was talking much either. I suppose they are all just upset by what we all saw, but it feels like most of their anger was towards me.

Jordan sighed and stood startling me and everyone else in the room. He marched right up to me and I grew nervous. He yanked me from my seat and shoved me up against the wall. I didn't fight him, if he wants to hit me then fine.

"You're not even going to say anything about what happened out there? Not even going to explain what went through your moronic head back there? Honestly, what were you thinking? You could've been killed or gotten one of us killed. When you get an order we expect you to be right where you're supposed to be," he said and glared directly into my eyes.

"It's hard to explain right now, but I was in the right place back there. That dragon would have killed all of you," I mumbled so only he'd hear me

"What the hell does that mean? You're acting like you helped back there, but you didn't do anything but worry everyone," he said and gripped my shirt tighter. He wasn't backing down.

"You want to hit me then fine, but I can't - won't - say anything else about it right now," I said and shoved him off of me. He actually backed off and not feeling hungry anymore I headed towards my room.

"Zion, wait a second," Mitch called out as he ran to catch up. "I don't want you leaving on these terms with us, I genuinely want you to be able to come back to this ship someday. Whatever it is, whatever is bothering you we can work it out. So please talk to me," he said once he caught up. I sighed, the least I can do is tell the Captain, right?

"It's kind of hard to explain really. I'm not even sure what exactly happened myself. You know that lady that was talking to me back there, don't you?" I asked and he nodded in confirmation. "Well, she told me I was like her. And honestly I - I don't know, it's like I could hear him yelling, screaming for blood. I just wanted the dragon to stop killing," I mumbled.

"I see, that makes sense. Though that is surprising, I do understand. That was the first time that ever happened to you right and you're still confused about it. We have heard stories about people being able to communicate with them and have even met a few ourselves so you being able to do it doesn't surprise me all that much. Lana even had a theory you could do it. I suppose she was right though I'm not sure how she knew before you even did," he said leaning against the wall.

"Yeah she shared her theory with me, I just thought she was crazy at first, to be honest. Anyway, I wasn't sure what you would all say and It's weird and new to me so I wasn't ready to talk about it yet. I'm still not to be honest," I mumbled.

"Well, at least that explains why you said you were in the right place. It gave you it's name didn't it?" he asked and I nodded. "That also explains why the Dragon stopped resisting us as much. You snapped it out of it's rage," he mumbled and drew his hand to his chin in thought.

"Valashtad, said you wouldn't let him go after everything he did but did give me his name before he died," I said and he looked up from his thoughts. He basically said that Valashtad was right on that.

"You think you'd be willing to explain what happened to the others or let me explain it to them now?" he asked and I sighed.

I suppose they do have a right to know why I disobeyed orders and put myself in harms way, but even though Mitch accepted it, will everyone be just as understanding? Still if I don't he will and it'd be better coming from me. I hesitantly nodded and he led me back to the dining room area.

"Listen, everyone. I'm sorry I worried you and I'm not going to make excuses for how I acted. However, I don't want to part with you this way so at least I should explain what happened and why I did what I did," I said and paused. Mitch gave me a small nudge and a nod to encourage me, though it didn't really help much. I took a deep breath and clasped my shaking hands.

"It's still confusing for me and hard to wrap my head around and it's kind of hard to explain, but I'll try. I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but well I could hear him screaming out for blood. The reason I left my post was because I wanted him to stop killing, didn't want him to kill anyone else.

My feet moved on their own and before I knew it I was standing there. As I got closer I could hear it more clearly, his voice. After I told him to stop he snapped out of his rage and took the time to talk to me. Knowing he wouldn't be forgiven for what he did he gave me his name and chose to die fighting," I said and looked down at my hands.
