Chapter 30- The call
"What? Are you insane?"
"I didn't want to create them because I was thinking of leaving Trinel, plus I didn't want my family to be hurt, but since they removed me from their life, then I'll do the same. From tomorrow I'll start my new life as a rich citizen of Trinel."
"Lyn, what happened to you? You can't hurt your family and your society."
"My society is Trinel, and I'll work on my family part."
"I can't believe you're saying this."
"Circumstances forces a person to be different."
"Do what makes you happy."
"Thank you, I appreciate your support."
"I'll always support you."
"Thank you, it means a lot to me."
"No worries."
"Dinner is ready guys." Interrupted Ms Elis.
"We're on our way," I replied. "Let's go," I added. We went to the dining room. I had my last dinner as the old poor me, and it was delicious. After dinner, I was exhausted. I wanted to start my day at work fresher than ever. I was really excited to start practicing my Bioengineering skills. If these devices work well, then I'll be able to build myself a name in the city of Trinel. I will finally be living my dream. I'll be known here, which means people will buy my products, global companies will want to recruit me, I'll be making easy money. Just thinking about making my dreams a reality was driving me crazy. I was one step away from achieving my 10-year-old self's dream. I don't know why I was delaying my happiness for people who don't care about me anymore. Elvira was definitely right, this is my society. This is where I belong.
"Thank you for the delicious dinner. I missed your delicious food." I said thanking Ms Elis.
"Yeah, it is delicious. Thank you." Said April.
"No problem, I'm glad you guys liked the food." Ms Elis replied.
"Of course, we'll love it, there's not a single person that would hate your food," I replied complementing.
"Aw, thank you, Lyn." She answered.
"No worries," I replied.
"I think I'm going to sleep, I need to wake up early tomorrow," I said.
"Yeah, get some rest before tomorrow." Said Ms Elis.
"Alright, goodnight. I'll see you guys tomorrow." I said.
"Wait, didn't you say that you'll take me as your assistant?" Asked April.
"Yeah, but I'll see what happens tomorrow first," I replied saying.
"Yeah, okay." She answered.
"Goodnight," I said.
"Goodnight." Replied April.
"Goodnight." Repeated Ms Elis.
I went up the stairs to my lovely room. I was so excited to finally sleep in my bed, in my own mansion. I feel like the rich life suits me more, I can fit in easily here. I'll just need a little push from Dyrlisia which will happen after the devices are done. They will probably hold promotional campaigns to promote my devices, which will be my first step towards my dream. With the help of media, I'll get my name up there. This will build my name, this will mark my career, everything will be much better once those devices are done. I can't wait to finish those devices and conquer Trinel with my own technology.
The devices will mark the highlight of my career, I can't wait to go to the lab and start experimenting with new stuff. I opened the bedroom door and jumped onto the bed as I closed the lights. As the lights faded, my old self faded with them. Goodbye, poor Lyn. Can't wait to welcome my new to me tomorrow.
The light slinked into my room, the fresh breeze air was touching my face, the smell of the delicious breakfast was poking my nose. I was like a newborn baby, I feel fresh and ready to start the journey.
I got to the prodigious dressing room that was waiting to dress me with the finest of clothes. I chose the classic navy blazer, the matching navy pants, a clean white shirt, and a pair of dark brown cap toe shoes. I helped the buttons of the shirt to hug each other. I looked into the mirror, and I fixed my hair. Oh, looking so damn good Lyn. I took a deep breath and I got to the dining room so I can finally taste that delicious smell.
"Good morning, Elis," I said as I smiled.
"Good morning, Lyn." She replied.
"Mr Lyn, please."
"Oh sorry, Mr Lyn."
"No worries, just don't do it again please."
"Yeah, okay."
I had my breakfast and left. I took my Lamborghini, pulled my ray ban sunglasses, and placed them on my eyes. I was ready to go. After a peaceful ride, I got to Dyrlisia's headquarters. I parked my car in my designated spot, and I got to the company. The receptionist was welcoming me.
"Welcome to Dyrlisia, how can I help you?" Asked the receptionist.
"I need to meet Elvira please," I replied.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"No, I just need five minutes with her."
"I'll check, have a seat please."
"Yeah, okay."
I sat in the reception area waiting for her to reply back. My excitement made me smile. After a while, the same receptionist came up to me.
"I'll guide you to her room." She said.
"Okay," I replied as I followed her into Elvira's office, and she was waiting for me.
"Welcome back Lyn." She said.
"Thank you," I replied gently.
"How was your trip to Branklin?"
"It was awful, I ran into some issues there."
"Oh really, what issues?"
"I don't know, I just remember few things. I just can't remember the whole thing. I thought I was meeting my parents, but I went to a wrong house. I'm really confused."
"Oh, that's terrible."
"Yeah, it is."
"So, what brings you here today?"
"I wanted to apologize for leaving Trinel. That was such a dumb move, I don't know what I was thinking honestly. I belong here. I just felt anxious when I first came here that's why I acted the way that I did. I'm sorry about that."
"Oh Lyn, it's fine. Don't worry about it."
"Thank you, that's so sweet of you."
"No worries, so are you excited to start working on the devices?"
"I can't wait. I just have so many ideas that I want to unleash in the lab."
"That's great. You have your Dislin with you, right?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Perfect. The lab is waiting for your fingertips to start experimenting."
"I'm right on it."
"Awesome."
"Thank you so much for this opportunity."
"Prove to me that you deserve it."
"I will do my best to create the devices that you wanted."
"That's the spirit that I want."
"Then, that's what you'll get."
"Perfect."
"Thanks again."
"No worries."
I got out of that office wanting to jump from the happiness that was living inside me. I can't believe that I was able to start over and let go of my past. I don't know why I was doing what I was doing back then. I knew the way to the lab I didn't need any type of guidance. I pulled the Dislin out of my wallet, and scanned it. This was the first step towards success. The door to the future opened. The lab was waiting me to start my experiment.
I placed my navy blazer on the chair, and I started thinking about how I'll create the devices, and what materials I'll need. I'll probably need a circuit, glass, metals, maybe plastic too. I'll begin with the circuit first, and I'll see where that takes me. I was going too fast, I need to design it first. I moved to the desk and I started sketching different designs. I stayed up all night sketching designs, I didn't even feel the time passing by. Dawn started cracking from the skies, I was exhausted. Without feeling my body, I fell into the arms of sleep.
In what felt like seconds, my grey eyes witnessed the sunlight that visited the lab through the tiny window. I moved my head away from the wooden desk. I worked all night on those designs and I still haven't found a good one. I didn't want to rush the process, but I wanted to get everything to be perfectly done. This is a gargantuan project that I need to focus on. I need to put in all my energy and heart into this project for it to succeed. I took the car and I drove back to the mansion.
I opened the door and got in, they must be worried about me since I didn't make it home yesterday.
"Good morning," I said as I walked into the empty living room.
"Lyn? Is that you?" April's voice echoed through the walls of the mansion.
"Yeah, it's me."
"Where the hell have you been?"
"I was in the lab, working."
"Oh my god, I've been so worried about you."
"Yeah, I know. I'm so sorry, I should've called, but I was so caught up in the work."
"It's fine. How did it go?"
"Good, I've started sketching different designs for the device, but I still haven't found the perfect one."
"It's fine, take your time."
"Yeah, I am. I'm trying to figure out how it'll serve the purpose, and what will it be composed of. Many questions are in my head."
"Yeah, I know. I faced the same issue when I started working on that device too. It's hard thinking about how you'll make it work, but you'll find a way. Trust me."
"The thing is I think that I won't be working as a bioengineer on this project."
"Then?"
"As an engineer in general, because I'm thinking of involving rays and circuits."
"But do you have information about such things?"
"Yeah, I do. I used to research those things in my free time."
"Such a nerd."
"Well, I choose to call it a person who consumes time wisely."
"That's another way to put it."
"That's the best way to put it."
"I love your perspective."
"Thanks."
"Anytime."
"So, why are you up early?"
"I didn't even sleep."
"Why?"
"I was worried about you."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's fine."
"You should go sleep now. Get some rest."
"Yeah, I'll go sleep."
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Her back was facing me, she walked towards the stairway. Midway through the stairway she turned around.
"Lyn." She called.
"That's me." I replied sarcastically.
"Don't ever leave me."
"Why are telling me this?"
"Because I felt like I was so lonely today, when you weren't around. You're the only person that I trust now."
"I won't leave you, I have no one here but you."
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me, just stop worrying about me."
"I'll try."
She ran down the stairway and hugged me like a kid. I felt the crack in her life through the hug, she hugged me tight as if she was hugging one of her family members. I hugged her back. She was missing something and found it with me. I felt like shit. I don't know how I for once thought that she might be a spy. It's just that at this point I can't trust anyone, I can't even trust my own self. Everything is breaking, and I'm trying to fix it. She couldn't sleep just because I didn't come back home. I'm such a terrible person. What the fuck is wrong with me? Why did I think of her the way that I did?
"April," I said as I was hugging her.
"Yes?" She replied as she raised her head and looked at me.
"I'm so sorry."
"For?"
"For treating you in such an inadequate way and for doubting you, and for thinking that you were a spy for Dyrlisia. I'm truly sorry. You were already broken and I just added salt to the wound."
"It's really fine."
"I want to make it up to you."
"Lyn, it's not a big deal. It's fine."
"Everything is important April, I did hurt you. Even if you kept on denying it, deep down I know that you're hurt and broken."
"Lyn, you're a true blessing. I don't know how this coincidence happened, but I'm so happy that it did. Meeting you was definitely the greatest coincidence."
"Oh please, I'm such a terrible person. I'm the one who is thankful that I have you in my life."
Our eyes exchanged a sparkle, I don't know what got to me. I felt something indescribable in that moment. I felt as if I found the missing piece to my heart. I was so attracted to her, I just wanted to pull her closer and kiss her. After a while of just looking into her hazel eyes, I pulled her and our lips touched. I was transported to another land, a land of magic and love. I just wanted that moment to last forever, but memories are the ones that last forever. Unfortunately, it ended badly.
"Lyn..." Interrupted Elis.
We moved apart as quick as her sound traveled to our ears. Her cheeks were turning into rose pink, she looked so cute.
"I'm sorry if I interrupted." Added Elis.
"What do you want Elis?" I replied.
"I wanted to inform you that breakfast is ready."
"Well, I'm informed. You can go now."
"Ok."
She left, but my respect for her didn't. My thoughts are confused right now. I can't act normal. I'm trying as much as possible to not fail.
"Lyn." Called April.
"Yes?" I answered.
"Why are you treating her in such a wack way?"
"She's just a maid April. That's how she should be treated."
"Ew, that's disgusting. That's not you. You used to call her Ms Elis, what happened to you?"
"Let's just go have our breakfast together."
"Answer me, Lyn."
"What?"
"Why are you acting weird?"
"What do you mean by that?"
"You're just so caught up with the money and the rich life now. Why all of a sudden?"
"There are some things that I don't remember April, just leave me. I'm trying to recover something."
"What do you mean? You don't remember what exactly?"
"I don't remember anything from the past, just small flashbacks and that's it."
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
"It's not important, I'm happy."
"Everything is important, remember?"
"Let's just go eat, I'm starving."
"Alright."
We had our first breakfast as a couple. I guess we're a couple now. The food just tasted ten times better, I don't know if that was the taste of love or it was just the taste of the actual food. All I knew is that I was happy.
"Lyn." Called Elis.
"It's Mr Lyn, Elis," I replied.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Mr Lyn."
"Yes?"
"There's someone on the phone that needs to speak to you."
"Who is it?"
"I don't know, but she was in a hurry."
"I'll go talk to her."
I ran straight to the phone, and so did my thoughts. Who is on the phone? Why is she in a hurry? Many questions were on my mind. I held the phone and placed it on my ear.
"Hello," I said.
"Lyn," Her angelic, unique voice serenaded its way to my ear.
"Violet?"
