chapter 15
He didn't even look remotely surprised as I approached him. If I didn't know better I might have thought he was waiting for me.
His lips lifted into a half smile as I sat beside him. An involuntary hiss leaving my mouth because of the pain on my back.
"Bad day huh?" I rolled my eyes at him.
"You could say that," I replied.
I suddenly realized that this was actually a perfect moment for me to get some answers from this guy.
Summoning up some courage, I put on my best cop face.
"Look, I need to ask you something and you have to answer truthfully," His smile dropped and he moved his face closer to mine.
"And if I don't want to answer your questions?"
I moved mine closer hoping I seemed brave, but inside I was actually shaking.
I mean, I didn't know the guy and I was alone with him in an empty park. Things just had to go my way.
"Oh, you'll answer alright. I know the reason you asked where I was staying, even though now that I think about it seems pretty dumb since you saw me with Mina and you know she works for my aunt. Like seriously where else would I stay?"
"Maybe, in that abandoned house near aunt June's," I said tauntingly.
I saw his eyes darken at the mention of Mina and the abandoned house. I really need to find out their relationship, but I guess that will be for another day.
Today my priorities were set straight. Find out if he was the one who took the mirror from my mum's car.
"What do you want to know?" he asked removing his face from my personal bubble. My breathing immediately returned back to normal.
"Did you see my mum anytime say, between the time she had the accident or before she had the accident".
"Your mum had an accident?" he asked looking confused and a bit sympathetic.
"Oh please, stop your bullshit straight nose. I know you have something to do with my mirror appearing in that abandoned house and I know you have a secret. One that is so dark, I probably don't even want to know,"
"And you came up with of all of this when? Maybe, you came up with it during your dream or wait, should I say nightmare," he said using the same mocking tone I used on him.
My face immediately paled.
"H-how, how do you know about my nightmare?" I asked feeling afraid and uneasy.
A wicked smile formed on his face. "You scream so loud I'm surprised you didn't wake up your entire household. Its either they are all deaf. Or, they don't care about you," he said breezily.
"Well, I'm done answering your questions for today. See you soon Lia," He said as he got up and walked away.
I was still glued to the seat. He didn't even answer any questions and I let him go.
I felt, scratch that, I knew he wasn't giving me the full story. My screams couldn't have been that loud, could they?
And if they were, did someone outside hear but people inside didn't. I was seriously rethinking a lot of things.
Maybe I should shift my investigation to the people in that house. Aunt June never did appear shaken over her sisters sudden accident.
It was final. I was going to play Nancy drew again.
As I walked back home, I realized I still hadn't gotten the guys name. Dammit!
