chapter one

Apollo had one purpose, kill Gaia's secret children, the monsters, that was what his father had called them, kill the monsters my children. He had created them for this, and although Gaia's children were actually by now many great's-great grandchildren, they still had to die.

He had been living in a flat in west London for three days, his hair a mess of mahogany curls, his eyes always watching, and as he got up from his bed, he heard something move down the corridor. He flexed his muscles in anger, his sunkissed skin not fully healed from his last ordeal.

It was probably just a dead one, but it was irritating him no end. Even so, he would deal with it later. His head still spinning with the images of his latest kill, a young werewolf who knew no better, he splashed water on his face and looked at himself in the mirror. He used to be somewhat of a god.

Now look at him.

This was a waste of his talents. He shouldn't have to waste time because the two gods of this planet were arguing. It was bad enough that he had been bitten by a dead one and had to lie in wait for three days until the poison left his body. He couldn't die, not by Gaia's witless creation.

He punched the wall in anger, hearing the shuffled footsteps and concentrated growls headed to the door of his flat. This wasn't what he wanted to deal with.

He could hear it clawing at the door, and threw a pillow at the door, it made no difference, but made him feel better.

He was about to go and deal with his little problem, when a flurry of blonde hair jumped in through the window, he just sighed at her.

"There's a cute warlock next door." She smirked at him, pushing him onto his bed, he pushed her away.

"I'm not in the mood Aura." She pouted at him.

"Just because you're in a mood doesn't mean I have to suffer." She pouted.

"Need I remind you we aren't together?" He shot back, before pulling on a shirt and brushing his hair.

"So?" She asked, sitting on his bed, "maybe I should go for that cute warlock..."

"Leave him alone." Apollo sighed, hunting for his sword, which he had strewn somewhere a few days ago.

"You knew he was there." She huffed. "Why haven't you killed him?"

"I got bit." He shot back, he didn't really want to kill the warlocks anyway, he was hoping that he would have left already.

"I'll deal with him." Aura got up, but one look from Apollo made her sit straight back down. "Why not? We have to kill them all."

"Leave him, he isn't a threat, can't even use his magic." Apollo answered. Truth was he didn't know why he wanted to let the warlock live, but he did, like he couldn't bare to see him die.

"Come on, that dead one outside is grating on my nerves." She huffed, opening the door and beheading it in one fell swoop. She spiked the head on the end of her sword, like a kebab.

"That was..." He trailed off as he tried to think of the right word.

"Amazing, I know." She said for him, he rolled his eyes, he was going to go for something along the lines of disgusting.

"Lets just go." He sighed at her.

"He would be such an easy kill." She looked longingly at the door to the flat next to the one Apollo had been living in.

"Aura, leave him." He said firmly, Aura pouted and sighed, but turned to go down the stairs instead. Apollo sighed, he too looking back at the door, maybe the young warlock would be better company then her. But then that would give her an excuse to kill him, so he left his thoughts where they were and followed the blonde down the stairs.

"Awe they're all gone." Aura pouted, and I was looking forward to a bit of killing."

"The question is why are they gone?" He asked, she shrugged.

"Hope it's a wolf, they're a fun kill." He was about to reply, but she was halfway down the street, he rolled his hazel eyes with a sigh, scanning the buildings, catching sight of the waelock watching from a window, Apollo knew he was just hoping they would leave, but he was strangely glad that he was there, hoping the waelock didn't notice he saw him, Apollo followed Aura down the street.

"Nothing! I've seen nothing for days!" Aura kicked a can hard, it flew into the road and rolled, hitting a dead one on the shin. It turned and growled, it's teeth baring, it's torn flesh hanging from it's body, the infection lying dormant until it bit a new victim. Apollo wondered how many humans were left. It began to move, and it's movements triggered another movement, there was three, then four, and then ten. They had found a hoard.

The movements were jerky, robotic almost, Apollo sighed at Aura, who was grinning.

"I can't be bothered." He whined childishly. She grinned harder.

"Come come Apollo, that's not that attitude a strong metahuman like you should have." She tutted at him, tapping the end of his nose with her finger.

"I don't care, why won't you leave me alone?" He sighed, looking from the hoard to her and back again.

"We're friends Pol, and friends are hard to come by in this mess Gaia made." She answered. He glared at her.

"Don't call me that!" He snapped loudly, she just giggled.

"It's no fun killing them without your help." She told him, swinging her sword and slicing a dead ones head in half.

"Oh fine." Apollo grumbled, getting up and helping her begin to attack the hoard. He was getting covered in blood and rotting flesh, but after killing a few, he realised that the hoard was bigger then they had first anticipated.

"Apollo, we have a problem." Aura giggled as she continued to fight, he wished she'd take things more seriously.

"I am aware." He told her, fighting harder to combat the flow of dead that were stumbling towards them.

"Great, now what should we do?" She shot back, kicking at one, knocking a few backwards in a gory try at dominoes.

"You tell me, you're the one who makes the decisions." He answered, inpaling a few in the head.

"I say run." She answered, taking a step back, he nodded, also moving backwards.

"Good idea." He agreed, the two turned and ran, not stopping to check how many there were, he sped through the streets, finding the open door of a hotel lobby and almost falling over he threshold. Hiding behind the desk, Aura by his side, he watched the hoard stagger past.

He let out a sigh.

They were safe, for now. Not that it would last long.
