Chapter 5

One of the most epic adventures of my life was about to happen or least that's what I hoped. I was excited about my trip and the beautiful places I would see. I got my luggage ready and did a final check. I kept checking the time as I waited for my sister, Camden. She volunteered to take me to the airport. I don't know why I agreed to let her do it, knowing she can be forgetful at times.

As I was about to call her, she knocked on my door. It was exactly 9:30 am and I could not believe she was on time. After she bragged about being on time, we loaded up my luggage in her new car. We got in and took off. She was talking my ear off while I was quiet the entire ride. I had so many things swirling around my head. Well, actually one thing. Okay, one person to be exact, Trent Gates. I couldn't help but think about what he did to my body and the way he made me feel. Right before we arrived at my terminal, she nudged me bringing me out of my fantasies.

"Hayden are you okay?" she asked.

"Yes. I'm just tired, but I am excited about my trip. It would be better if you could come with me," I replied.

"I know but I can't. Besides, I think every woman should travel by themselves... Well, lil sis, I want you to have a good, relaxing, and stress-free time okay."

"I will. I'm excited."

"Good. You really need to relax. All you do is study, read, and do other boring stuff. Promise me you will enjoy yourself. Maybe meet a hot guy and finally get laid. Let go of that falling in love crap and get you some dick, but most importantly be safe okay," she said grinning.

I rolled my eyes at her. Little did she know I already got laid. She pulled up in front of the international terminal and parked in the lot. She helped me with my bags and kissed me on my cheek.

"I wish mom, dad, and Jarod was here so they could say goodbye in person," I said.

"I know, but our parents just had to show their faces at the country club. Jarod who knows what that weirdo is up to. Anyway, don't worry just FaceTime them soon as you land and keep in touch with me. Be careful okay," she said.

I hugged her and headed to the check-in counter. Then it hit me. I could not believe I didn't tell Trent that I'd be gone for 6 weeks.

Crap! Crap! I didn't tell him.

He said he wanted to see me again. That's what all the guys say after they got what they wanted, right? I figured it was just a one night stand. He's probably on to the next chick anyway. I decided to put him in the back of mind and enjoy my upcoming trip.

My first stop will be Rabat, Morocco, then Brazil, Jamaica, Bahamas, and finally the Dominica Republic. I planned on spending a week in Morocco, a week in Brazil, and 3 weeks in the Caribbean. I would lose almost a week traveling.

The plane ride to Rabat was long. I was tired that I went straight to my hotel and went to sleep. The next morning I thought I was ready to explore but I was still exhausted. I was a little nervous when I explored. Rabat was quite different from home, but the people were so nice and welcoming. Since I could understand the language it was easy and I blended in more.

North Africa is a part of my father's heritage and culture. I enjoyed seeing the place he spent his summers as an adolescent. I meet a few distant relatives too. I went to museums and saw all the beautiful monuments. I loved the culture and people. I wished I could have spent more time there and got to know my relatives better. I had to get ready for the next part of my trip.

The flight from Morocco to Brazil was so long I couldn't wait to get off that plane. I was almost tempted to kiss the ground. Rio de Janeiro had a completely different vibe. I had such a great time eating, dancing, and shopping in various parts of the city. The beaches were beautiful. There were so many hot guys, but I wasn't interested in any flings. I've been there, done that. Well, just one time, but it still counts. Anyway, I am not really a big drinker, but I did have a few drinks but the smell of alcohol in Brazil was off-putting. I figured I had better choices of liquor in another country.

When I got to the next destination, Jamaica, I felt sick. Like throwing up, fatigue, and a major headache sick. I figured I ate something that did not sit well with me. No matter what I did or ate I could not stop throwing up. So I didn't do much. I was so disappointed that I missed out on all the excursions I had planned. I took it really easy and stayed at the resort catching up on my tv shows and watched movies.

I felt better by the time I made it to the Bahamas. Just as a precaution, I took it easy. I avoided certain food and alcohol. I stayed at the resort and relaxed. I got spa treatments and lounged around the pool a lot. I found a library at the resort and read some books by Caribbean authors. It was nice to chill for a while. I was ready to party when I hit my next destination.

During my last leg of the trip in the Dominica Republic, I was sick again. Partying was the last thing I wanted to do. I was upset that my trip wasn't turning out like I thought it would. I stayed cooped up in my room. One of the staff members who became like a friend noticed. Her name is Donna. She's the nicest person I met there, and I met plenty of nice and friendly people here.

"Miss Hayden, I think you should take a pregnancy test. I mean no harm but I see all de signs of a bun in de oven," she said in her thick accent.

I wasn't upset or offended. I didn't think it was possible, but I was clearly sick. So, I told her I would take the test as soon as possible. I just thought Trent and I were careful. We used a condom. I know they are not one hundred percent, but I felt we were at least responsible. We took precautions, but I did notice that my period was late like two weeks late.

Crap! I really might be pregnant.

When I came back to my room I saw a note from Donna and a pregnancy test on the counter. I took the test and waited in fear for the results. I paced back and forth for the longest two minutes of my life. I finally had the courage to look and it was positive. I just broke down and cried. I had sex once and now I'm about to be a mother. I didn't know what to do. I figured that I was overreacting and the test could be wrong or old.

It had to be wrong. A false pregnancy. That happens a lot, right?

I decided not to worry about it until I got home and went to my doctor to confirm if the test was right or wrong. I told Donna that the test had an error. She told me to make sure at the doctor and I said I would and keep in touch with her.

My trip was over and it was time to go home and face the music. The entire six-hour flight home was stressful. I couldn't relax. I was on edge, constantly thinking about how I ruined my life for one night. I wondered if I should even tell Trent. Then there were my parents. They are going to kill me. They believed children should be born in wedlock only. My father really cared about the family's reputation. His company and appearance of having the perfect family meant a lot to him.

We finally landed and I felt even worse. My older brother, Jarod picked me up from the airport. I was exhausted and nauseated.

"You don't seem like a person that got to travel the world on someone else's dime. You look stressed. What's wrong with you?" he asked.

"I'm jet-lagged and tired," I said faintly.

"Yeah, I guess all that traveling should make you tired." He shrugged.

I remained quiet and closed my eyes. I hope I didn't have to vomit during the drive home. We made it home and Jarod helped me bring my luggage up to my apartment. I told him I needed to rest so he didn't stay long. He gave me a hug before leaving.

I took a shower and headed to my doctor for a pregnancy test. I made an appointment when I was in the Dominica Republic. I had to know immediately if I was pregnant or not. I was a nervous wreck hoping and praying that I wasn't pregnant. I told my doctor about my concerns and took the test. I waited for my results trying not to freak out. Dr. Singh came in and sat down.

"Your results are positive. You are pregnant Ms. Cooks. I want you to follow up with an OBGYN okay," she said.

I was stunned. I didn't know what to say but 'okay'. The entire drive home I was wondering how I was going to tell my parents, siblings, and friends. Especially my father. Having an abortion wasn't even a choice for me. I couldn't kill a baby because I made a mistake. I thought about the possibility of giving up my baby for adoption or maybe keep it.

When I got home I felt that I needed to talk to someone. I called Donna and told her that she was right. She congratulated me. She graciously thanked me for the nice tip I left and keeping my promise. She told me everything was going to work out. I wasn't sure, but it was nice to hear her positivity. I told her I would keep in touch.

Then there was Trent, the father. How was I going to tell him? I didn't even have his number. I didn't know where he lived. I could contact his parents, but I haven't talked to them in a few years. Besides, his parents moved out of the state. It would probably be suspicious if I asked his parents out of nowhere for his number. I wondered how I would contact him to tell him. I believe he should be the first to know. Then I thought about if he didn't want the baby and how that would affect my child's life.

I was frustrated with myself. I am so stupid for sleeping with a man I didn't know anymore. A person could change a lot in seven years. All I could do we hope that he didn't change that much.
