55 | Is That Alright?

Hello lovelies!

Oooh lookie, I'm back with another chapter! I missed your pretty faces so so so much.

Also...new cover. How do we like it? Yes, or do y'all prefer the old one better?

If you've been wondering where I've been, I posted a little announcement on here last week, so go check that out...pretty much explains it all.

So for the song I've chosen for this chapter, it's a cover of the original. I will truly feel upset if you don't listen to it when it comes to the time. It'll make the whole scene even more intense than it already will be.

Please don't forget to vote and comment, because I love reading the little things you have to say.

So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy this one (it's a cutesy chapter), my darling rosy tulips 🌷

Serenity.

"So, you excited for tonight?"

Harry was looking at his appearance in the large mirror in our bedroom; by that, I meant the condo. He'd decided that we get ready there because he wasn't sure what to wear, and was in desperate need for my help.

He called me while at work, anxious about picking one out. I hadn't seen Harry so nervous about choosing what to wear in months. Ever since becoming self-confident, he knew what to pick and decide on. So without a doubt, it surprised me.

In the past, there wasn't the biggest selection when all Harry wore were monochromatic shades. But even after colour filled his closet—including his classics with added flares and sparks—he was still so confident. It didn't take long; he was in and out straight away.

After extensive effort, Harry narrowed down the suits in his closet to three options. He had each of them laid on the bed, constantly looking from them, up at me, and back down to the lavish garments before him. A hand was on his hip with his thumb and finger taken between his bottom lip.

Between sparkly taupe, mulberry and gold edges, one stood out to me the most that I thought would be perfect for the evening. Without commenting on exactly which caught my eye, I simply said that one of them had a little extra something of what he loved. It was also the most different from what anyone had seen him in.

With a nervous smile, he took all three suits with him and ducked back into the closet to change into that one that I knew would look stunning on him.

And minutes later, I was right.

Steady steps from the room of custom designer and vintage, Harry stood in a sleek crimson satin pants with the jacket hung on his forearm. Floral designs were stamped on in black velvet, contrasting from deliciously dark to sinfully sensual. It was incredibly alluring to look at. The button-down was in the identical absent shade, reaching his neck up into an unconventional tie of smooth fabric in a perfectly draped bow. And, of course, spotless loafers that screamed out opulence and pristine luxury.

He looked impeccable—and delectable.

Harry also decided upon himself to make a visit to a barbershop earlier today. So I was surprised when I showed up to the condo to see him wearing a plain white tee with grey sweatpants hung low on his hips—and, of course, his hair a few inches shorter and his face clean-shaven.

And for some magical way, he looked about five years younger. No one would think that a man, who looked fresh out of university, was the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company.

When he saw my shocked face, he looked at me worryingly—and a tad guilty—that he hadn't warned me in advance. I'd clearly assumed when he said he had an appointment earlier in the morning that he meant a meeting with someone, not that someone being a person with scissors and a comb.

Seeing him a tad flustered about it was quite adorable, adding to his already nerves of the day, so I just cupped his cheeks and puckered my lips directly on his. He quickly welcomed my greeting well as he melted under my touch.

But it wasn't much longer when he grabbed me by the wrist and tugged me to his bedroom with a mission on his hands—said mission being an undecided wardrobe malfunction.

However, at the moment, the past was forgotten as the suit jacket now laid on the bed. Harry walked over to stand in front of the mirror, watching as his fingers and thumb fumbled together, trying to adjust the cuffs on his button-down.

My eyes were on him the entire time, mesmerised by how his muscles flexed under the black fabric. I could see each dip and curve through it, and they simply craved my fingers to smooth against them.

"Fuck. This isn't working," Harry mumbled, instead of replying to my question. I noticed his struggle and walked over to help him.

"Tiger, why are you so nervous? I've never seen you like this," I said softly, fixing his cufflinks. "It should be me feeling like that."

A deep sigh escaped from his lips as his brows furrowed.

"It's just—I don't know. I just am."

I smiled. "You're acting like you've got some sort of surprise up your sleeve or something."

"N-no," he hesitantly shook his head, then ran his fingers through his hair. "Everything's the same. Maybe it's just the jitters that more people we know are here are all today. It's a bit different, I guess."

He was rambling.

Harry hardly ever rambled.

That was my doing.

He cleared his throat, walked away once this was settled, and popped into the bathroom.

"What about you, darling? How're you feeling?" His voice echoed, bouncing off the tile inside as he spoke.

I moved back to my side of the dresser to pick out a couple of pieces of jewelry to wear, something else to accessorise with, other than the necklace Harry got me for Christmas—the very one that I wore as much as I could. But I figured tonight needed a little more sparkle, so a little shine to my wrist and fingers would do the trick.

Without glancing up, I knew Harry returned as a strong scent of tobacco, vanilla, and musk filled the room—the irresistible aroma of his cologne. That was when I looked up to see the beauty that matched the heavenly whiff that entered my senses.

He was sans glasses, opting to match with me as I went spec-free for the evening. Whether he wore contacts or not, I saw no change in his confidence level, which added to the pride I felt for him. He was my indestructible man, and no one could get to him again.

"I'm a little nervous," I said, struggling to fasten the clasp on my bracelet.

Harry noticed and walked over while gently grasping my wrist to secure it for me. He placed a soft kiss there, then another on the finger holding a matching rose gold ring.

"Better?" he asked quietly, and I nodded. "Good."

I bit my bottom lip slightly as I gazed up at him.

"You look handsome, Tiger."

He pulled back slightly, smoothing his hands over his chest. "Yeah? Haven't even got my jacket on."

"Oh, because it's the jacket that seals the deal," I teased. "My mistake."

"Absolutely and always, sweetheart." He grinned, pinching the tip of my nose slightly before giggling at his own heartfelt action. "Got your nose."

I hummed lightly. "You're cute."

His eyes then softened. "But thank you, darling. For helping me pick it out and all."

"Nonsense, pretty. No 'thank you's' for that. I'll help you whenever you need me." I smiled, feeling my heartbeats escalate in my ears.

My nerves weren't doing well, and I knew that Harry could see that.

"So—um—Harry, are you going to be in the audience, or..."

A little laugh left his lips at my verbal thoughts. It was adorable how his nose wiggled and vibrant eyes crinkled in delight.

"Es, baby, it's an event for Urban Corp. Of course, I'll be in it, hosting, but after that, I'll be on the sidelines for the most part. I'm also the one introducing you."

"It's just—this is the most unique thing I've ever done. It's also the first time where everyone will know that we're together, so like—oh, I don't know."

"Don't worry, darling. It's all taken care of. It's an event to celebrate talent from local businesses and artists, and you so happen to fit that category." He smiled. "Besides, it's not about us. It's just about the one thing you passionately love—dance. I'm actually a little jealous I don't quite hit that top mark for you."

His teasing let a smirk rest on his lips, unintentionally forcing me into a light chuckle.

"There's that smile I've been looking for." The words rolled out of his mouth, pleased with my reaction. His hands smoothed down to rest on my hips, squeezing me slightly as he grinned.

"You just know how to get everything you want. Don't you?"

"I try my best, sweetheart. Trust me, it's not that easy," Harry said, holding his expression. "What's that saying? Easy come, easy go. Wouldn't want that to go now, would I?"

"Touché."

Raspberry lips temporarily rested on my forehead, permitting a lingering kiss.

Once he pulled away, he pushed back a loose strand of hair behind my ear. Then he moved all of it to one side as he kissed my exposed neck firmly. His thumb then caressed my chin while he gently cupped my cheek.

"You'll nail every second of it, Es. I know you will."

"Okay," I said softly, gazing up into the eyes of a man who was hopelessly in love with.

"I love you most."

"Not possible, petal," he answered with a confident shake of his head.

And at this point in time, I honestly believed that Harry's feelings towards me were something I could never dare to compete with.

"Kissy?"

My desperate plead was all I spoke before he firmly pressed his lips on mine.

But it ended far too soon before we parted.

Harry walked back over to the bed to grab his discarded suit jacket and slipped it on, only to check the mirror once more as he looked that final glance at his reflection. His hands smoothed over the lapels before reaching out to grab his watch.

I caught his dark gaze in the mirror, looking up just after he'd sealed the clasp of the timepiece.  He smiled at me, curling his finger and ushering me to come over to him.

As I'd wanted to earlier, I let my hands settle on his shoulders, feeling him through the luxurious fabric tight over his body. Slowly, they wandered down south and under his armpits to wrap around his waist. His fingers gently smoothed atop my hold, keeping me close to him—and never forcing me to look away from him.

The eye contact was intense and intimidating, yet still so loving.

"Haven't got a chance to take a proper glance at my girl. Look at you," Harry spoke lowly. "You're stunning."

With slow movements, he peeled me away from him, only to pull me back in front of his chest.

"Gorgeous, baby," he said, letting his gaze wander all over me. "I'm so lucky. I'm so fucking lucky."

I could see the wheels spinning in Harry's mind, the sinful darkness taking over those emerald eyes of his. As he captured his bottom lip between his teeth, he thought of a million things that did not involve leaving the condo and forgetting about the gala entirely.

A knowing blush crept upon my cheeks as he pulled his mouth into a smirk.

I needed to snap him out of the trance he was slowly falling into, so I did what I knew best.

"You should be lucky. I am unique. One-of-a-kind. Idiosyncratic. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, you know."

Harry beamed brightly as a loud laugh left his chest, as he held me close to him. His nose pressed against my temple, feeling each chuckle hit my skin with a joyful welcome.

"You're crazy."

"Yeah, but you love me," I leaned in, and he leaned into me.

"Yeah, I do," he murmured against my lips, as he nodded.

And he smiled into the perfect kiss.

"Now let's get going, sweetheart, because any moment longer I'm alone with you, that dress will end up on the floor. I promise you that."

That's what led me to usher out of the condo before he went through with his word. If I knew one thing about Harry, it would be that he never breaks his promises.

Everything was beautiful.

The event hall was dipped in a galactic paint palette and splattered with specs of violet, indigo, and gold. The hues were smeared and kissed together in utter harmony that artists as Picasso and Van Gogh would consider masterpieces on canvas.

An elegant droplet of both shimmer and sparkle as lights hung from the high ceilings. It was mystical and magical, a little step into magnificence and luxury. A walk-through and one would only feel a gust of confetti in a tasteful style rush through their souls at the grandeur experience.

Sleek, durable dark cherry hardwood, contrasting the stone eggshell walls, gave an undeniable sense of calm. Through the hectic push and pull of passersby of the elite, businessmen and women, their spouses, family, friends, journalists, and photographers, the décor and vibe still gave that easing aura of tranquility.

My eyes were wide as they laid upon dozens of circular tables, each to seat eight. Dinnerware was sleek and refined. The centrepieces and floral arrangements were lavish and subtle, yet they made a bold statement.

A haze of light reflected against the stained floors and cutlery, sprinkling down in pitter-patters to shine in beauty. It was a sight for sore eyes.

The event hall was the heaven of business royalty.

From what I could spot, select tables were designated for specific companies, firms, and of course, the CEO and President of Urban Corp.—he had his own seat. It was only fitting since the event was held under the name of his globally-known business.

The thing was, though, Harry never let that title go to his head. Even if he did use it when it came to making certain decisions, he was so incredibly humble and used it in a way to steal power or undermine others. And if he had it truly his way, he'd be sitting amongst the crowd, avoiding the spotlight, but he still had the top position of a leader meant to be followed.

But what Harry told me on the drive over surprised me when I asked what happened to all the decorations and excess food afterward or if they trashed it all. He didn't mean to look slightly offended, but I could see it as he'd shaken his head in response.

"Petal, we're all about those three R's in the company. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Excess liquor goes to local bars and pubs. The food leftover is handed out to the homeless shelters by the volunteers that hang around afterwards to help. The decorations are always reused, as well. For anything that breaks or falls apart, we see if it can get fixed. If not, they're sent to one of our facilities that makes something else out of them. Our company, and sisters, find a way to make things work."

"Wow. That's amazing," I said, and tilted my head. "Was this something that Urban Corp. has always done?"

He shook his head, shifting gears as he looked at me for a quick glance before focusing back on the road. "No. It's something I started when I took over as CEO. I brought the company up to Green and LEED standards, and started programs such as reusing things and whatnot. You know those basic things, though, from when you Googled me, way back when."

His words caused me to smile at him warmly, to which he turned his head while driving. "What?"

"I love you."

Harry blushed.

"I love you more, baby," he said, grabbing my hand to place a sweet kiss atop it.

"You know, you did so much better for that company than fucking what's-his-face," I commented, and he burst into laughter.

"Oh, I really fucking love you."

And that made me grin.

"Essie?" Harry spoke softly, nudging me lightly to break me from my trance.

"Hmm?" I looked up at him, failing to realise he'd already been trying to speak to me priorly.

"Got lost in that pretty little head of yours, didn't you?" he said with a slight smile.

"Yeah." I nodded. "I mean, how can I not? Everything is so beautiful."

A smirk slowly crept on his lips. "I think I'm going to be a corny fucker right now and say it's because you're in it."

I snorted with a grin. "Yeah, that was corny."

He just smiled, pulled me close, and kissed my temple.

"So you like it?"

"I love it."

A deep hum left through his closed mouth. "Notice the colour choice?"

I blinked twice, then stated the obvious hue that stood out most. "It's purple."

"And...whose favourite colour is that?"

It then dawned on me.

"You chose purple for me?"

Harry's lips pulled into a sly smirk, then he gave a slow nod.

Which then turned into a shake of his head.

"No."

My face dropped, and he laughed.

"It really was a coincidence. But I did put the scheme through as a suggestion. I didn't have the final say. But you can kind of say it was partially for you."

"Smooth, Styles. Very smooth."

And he flashed a toothy grin.

"Of course, Miss Hayes. Everything's the best for my darling girl," he said, lightly pinching my waist. "C'mon, Essie. Our families are calling us over."

Harry was very sweet and thoughtful for inviting the rest of my family. My dad and his spouse (aka, Gennie Hayes, my mom) were invited because of his connection to Urban Corp., but everyone else was added on as his many 'plus ones.'

"Wow, they're on time for something. That's new," I spoke with a chuckle, and heard Amara, who cackled a short distance away.

"Right, because we are always the late ones, Ren," my friend commented.

Harry snickered, and I elbowed him lightly.

"What? You know it's true. You're the worst. You're only ever on time when I push you on things."

I pouted.

He only laughed.

"Ren, we only tell you this because we love you," Milo said, and I huffed.

"Now, let's leave it at that, and can we talk about how damn stunning you look! Making this dress look like it's off the runway, aren't you?" Mars commented, and I blushed.

"Technically...it is," I commented, and she grinned.

"Givenchy would love to have you as a model. I just know it."

Harry smiled warmly. "An ethereal dream, she is. Isn't she?"

"Always," my mom spoke proudly.

Blushes were coming at me profusely with no room to hide them, but showcasing on my face, evident and vibrant.

"Harry, son!" my dad greeted Harry, pulling him into a big hug.

His cheeks still got a little pink whenever he called him that. It was hard not to notice.

"Julian, it's good to see you again."

"Hasn't been too long, eh?" he replied with a grin, patting him on the shoulder.

"Oh, my two little sweetie pies," my mom said, embracing us both.

Once her arms released us, I saw she eyed my Tiger up and down, showing a warm smile. "Loving the red, Harry. You look very sharp. It's very you."

Harry's cheeks were wholly red then as he looked at me with a bashful smile. My baby was still not used to compliments from others.

"And you look stunning, sweet girl. This dress is beautiful on you. The black is very un-you, but also so very you."

"Lots of rhymes going on there," I quipped, and she laughed. "But thank you. Harry got it for me. He wanted to spoil me."

"As he should." My mom grinned, looking at Harry, who only smiled proudly.

"I would always do it if she let me."

"And you very much know that I would never always do it," I spoke with a smile.

He frustratedly shook his head, mumbling how 'infuriating' I was.

Charlie scooted in to give me a hug, commenting on how nice everything looked. Harry thanked him as my mom spoke up again. "It's a lovely party."

"They always seem to throw the best of them. I mean, not that I've been to many at all..." I stated, then chuckled softly. "...just one, really."

"It's usually the nicest gala we have for the small businesses. It gives them hope that they can eventually reach whatever highest goals they want to achieve. We also give out awards to each of them to celebrate and honour them as being a part of Urban Corp. We don't like making them feel like they had to resort to us for anything but only for the way of support," Harry said, and my heart warmed.

"That's—wow. Impressive," my dad replied, pursing his lips, then nodded in approval. And then he smirked. "So, I get an award, too?"

"Dad!" I exclaimed, as we all laughed.

My dad opened up a bakery last week with, of course, some help from Harry's company. I knew that he had some extra money saved up that if he eventually did something about his passion, he could do that. Harry helped with tips and tricks on how to keep it successful and not fail after the first year. Like he'd mentioned before, he'd also gotten someone else to handle any issues he could cross.

He almost didn't want to accept the $5000 grant that Urban Corp. gives out as a 'helping hand' when becoming a small part of the company, but Harry made it happen. He'd said, "I'm not giving you the money. It's from the company. Everyone gets it, and you can't refuse it."

Needless to say, that Julian Hayes blushed because of that.

I did accept it initially, but then donated that money back to Urban Corp.so that another person could have a chance to make their dreams come true. Of course, this was after the major dent happened in our relationship. Harry just said, "Baby, it's really no difference. The company makes more than that anyway." I frowned, and left it at that.

The money went back to Urban Corp.

But after Starlight was sold back to me, I made sure that Harry removed my affiliation with the company. He still owned five per cent of my studio, but that was only under his name.

So technically, Harry was the CEO and President of Urban Corp. and co-partner with Starlight Studio.

The day that happened, I gave him the biggest kissy he's ever had.

I was happy.

He was happy.

We were happy.

"Rin's, I'm joking," he said with a chuckle, and Harry grinned.

"Well, there is one with your name on it."

"Yes!"

Harry pulled me closer to try and hide his enthusiasm, but I only felt him giggle against me.

The rest of our gang all met and gathered together, making introductions for Harry's family to mine. Of course, my brothers teased him in any way they possibly could, being their usual selves. They got along quite well with Valentina and Estela, charming their way to everyone new they met.

Eventually, Harry and I excused ourselves from them, as he had to greet and mingle with others he knew—many of those being in the business world. He wanted me alongside him, introducing me to them as his girlfriend.

Hearing that word come out of his mouth was still a shock, but it came out smoothly tonight without a grimace on his lips. After our conversation, I knew he would never entirely like the word, but it was there to make a statement and simply for introductions.

And for a certain select few, it was almost like a warning.

Like Keon, for example.

He was here because his company was amongst the ones who helped alongside anything architecturally related to small-business owners who needed starting up from scratch—or renovations, like me.

We haven't had contact since the renovations ended since there was no longer a reason for communication. Keon also got the hint as to the fact that I wasn't interested in him when I saw him way back when.

But Harry wanted to prove it to him when he smoothly brought it up in our brief conversation. "Yeah, it's been a while since you've seen my girlfriend and me."

He thought he was being slick.

He wasn't.

"It has been," Keon continued, as if Harry's comment wasn't spoken. But I saw the way his eyes rolled back at his words.

It was amusing, to say the least.

An hour or so had gone by before dinner was served. It wasn't five-star dining, but definitely nowhere near average, typical type of food served by event halls. Our table was shared with Felix Grant, his wife Belinda—whom I haven't seen since River's opening performance at the BBC—and a couple of other members of the BOD.

My attention was mainly kept on Belinda as we caught up by telling me how the BBC has changed since River's addition. It was wonderful hearing how my friend, as a new dancer at a nationally-known company, was able to bring a unique flavour and creativity. It made me proud. She also mentioned that she was expecting, to which Felix commented that he would finally have someone to pass the business down to. The baby's name would either be Felix Jr. or Felicia.

Belinda wasn't pleased, evident from her visible scowl.

Harry just laughed, congratulated her, and told Felix, "Hey, she's carrying the baby. She can do what she wants."

That made Belinda smile.

More mingling carried on after dinner while soft live music played in the background, following were speeches from very thankful business owners and entrepreneurs. Each of them was introduced by Harry; they shared their honour for the man, and company, who helped them become who they are today. But unknowingly, he mentioned that he saved the best for last. Of course, I didn't know he meant me at the time. It was also the most anticipated event of the evening.

The performance from the owner and lead instructor of Starlight Studio.

Harry wished me good luck before walking back up the podium to introduce me. I'd quickly removed my dress in a room nearby; a black leotard fit perfectly underneath it, ready to go.

I could see my family and friends smile and clap for me in the corner of my room, and their support meant so much to me. It was clear that they tried so hard not to embarrass me, but when family is involved, their attempt never goes as planned. I still loved them though.

But as I'd taken the centre of the open floor, I felt my nerves echoing across every surface in the room. I stood alone, surrounded by hundreds of people, each patiently waiting to see what I planned to perform.

My eyes flashed over to the side where I'd last seen Harry, only to see that he was gone. I searched frantically, unsure where to put my gaze as I looked for the one man who would keep me calm—but he was nowhere to be found.

The silence was deafening as I stood there alone and, for the first time, scared.

What if I fall?

What if I mess up?

What if they don't like it?

What if—

It was then that a moving figure was caught through the corner of my eye. A man was walking towards the grand piano a short distance away. And just as he sat down, I saw exactly who it was under the dimmed lights of the room.

Harry.

His eyes were intense as they met mine. Emerald gems shined and sparkled, blinding anyone else who dared to steal his gaze. A stray strand of his pretty brunette hair fell down his forehead, a form of a conductor ready to produce the show. The tip of his tongue poked out to swipe across his raspberry lips, wetting them, before letting out a shaky breath.

But then, they pouted and mouthed those exact five words I knew crystal clear.

"I would never drop you."

Even though he was metres away, his presence there was more than enough to assure me that he would still protect me. Without a verbal word, he was telling me that I could do this and he'd let no harm come my way.

Nerves shined through his eyes, and I showed him a faint smile, giving him the biggest encouragement he could ever have.

"I love you."

He mouthed it back, his expression mimicking mine as he gave a slight nod.

That was his queue.

With that second, I knew it was his queue to perform in front of a crowd for the first time in over ten years. He was always so secretive about his playing, only to me, and occasionally when I had my little ballerinas in class—but never like this.

After everything Harry's been through, I knew this would mean the absolute world to him. I wanted to give him the best feeling he's ever had. I wanted him to be proud of himself for something he's loved to do since he was young; that very something that no one else allowed him to feel truly free with doing.

This was more than just playing for himself and me. Harry planned on showing his true persona to everyone on the planet with a single performance.

My Tiger was ready to jump the fire on his own.

Journalists and photographers were here, each with a camera and notepad, just ready to record the greatness about to happen. And every single bit of it would travel to the ends of the earth.

So with a heavy breath, I took my position and heard the first note sound like a ghost visiting each person's ear, whispering the grace of melody.

My hands smoothed against my hips, slowly moving against the softness of my bare skin and fabric. The tips of my toes took control, standing pointe as I moved into a delicate turn. Harry's touch against the keys of ebony and ivory was still light as a feather, gentle in my veins.

But then something happened that I didn't see coming.

It wasn't just the vibrations of keys and strings that echoed in the vast space, but a unique heavenly voice. It was so raw and pure, an angelic tone with the slightest rasp.

I'd never heard anything like it, but I never let my stance falter; rather, it entered my soul from the tips of my fingers down to toes, sealing the utter splendour beneath my skin.

My ears were accustomed to his vocals, having heard him sing delicately and belt out tunes in our many carpool karaokes, but not once had I ever thought he would showcase this talent to the world.

From what I thought, it was just Harry playing the sole rich instrument, but I failed to realise that his vocals were to pair alongside it.

Life is so simple
A little boy, a little girl
Laughing and loving
Trying figure out the world

When I flickered my gaze over to him as he played and sang beautifully, I saw his eyes were shut. His brows were slightly furrowed as his head hung low, feeling every note his magical hands touched. I could feel his power through his passionate actions, a faint shake of his shoulders with each move, a press of his foot on the pedal when need be.

He was living in the moment, and so was I.

It felt like summer when I kissed you in the rain
And I know your story, but tell me again
Nothing you say wouldn't interest me
All of your words are like poems to me
I would be honoured if you would take me as I am

His voice and touch were prominent as they hit the chorus, my steps just as heavy in unity. Twirling, swirling, spinning, sliding on the ground, and lifting myself with the choreography I'd created with the help of a love story.

And suddenly, his eyes flickered open just as I looked at him again, and my lips parted.

I want you
To look right in my eyes
To tell me you love me
To be by my side
And I want you
At the end of my life

I was dancing our story.

Harry was playing a story he wanted to tell me.

And I understood every single bit.

Knowing the song I'd chosen in advance, he'd already giving this more than two thoughts. Harry watched my routine from the second I'd put it together and memorised it all. It played in his mind like a broken record, planning something that would take me by surprise.

And it surely did.

Wanna see your face
When I fall with grace
At the moment I die
Is that alright?
Is that alright?

Harry sang with genuine passion and soul, playing each note and chord beautifully. I could feel the ardour transfer straight from his chest to mine. Our bodies communicated in different ways, showcasing our love for one another, yet keeping the truth hidden only for ourselves.

And when the bridge hit, so did I.

My dancing strengthened and became much more powerful with each step, move, slide along the floor, and jump. Briefly, constantly finding Harry flicker his gaze back over to me, I saw that he was watching me carefully.

Just enough to make sure that he had my back.

He was protecting me.

I hope you're still with me
When I'm not quite myself
And I pray that you lift me
When you know I need help
It's a warm celebration of all of our years
I dreamed of a story of our fairytale
Family dinners and family trees
Switching the kisses, say, "Thank you and please"
Knowing if we stay together the things will remain

I could tell that Harry wanted all of those things with me. Telling me that he was sure that he knew he wanted to marry me, and singing those lyrics with avidity and an fierce, and the honest meaning to them only proved it.

Harry sang the last bits of the song, perfected vocals, playing, and all, meeting my eyes as the words smoothed out on softly on his tongue.

I want you
To look right in my eyes
To tell me you love me

Verses and lyrics, and meanings all came out so naturally with him. Just as dancing was my second nature to living, performing was undoubtedly his.

I hadn't intended on it, but it happened. My feet twirled towards the love of my life, my arms extended with every spin, until I stood before the piano. I let my fingers curl on the edge of the large instrument and pointed my foot to the magnificent ceiling before slowly dropping it. My breath was heavy, chest raising and lowering, catching every ounce of air I could.

Is that alright?

Harry's gaze burned into mine as I neared him, curling my lips ever so softly. With the final touch of the keys, he reached out and took hold of my hand.

It was alright, Harry—more than alright.

We were so lost within each other, our gaze held firmly that nothing could part from one another until we heard a sudden eruption of applause that broke our deep connection.

Our heads turned towards the crowd to find hands clapping, whistles sung out left and right, and see bright smiles fill the room. Strangers, and our families and friends, were cheering us with enthusiasm that made my heart melt.

We let out breaths of joy as Harry stood, his hand still adjoined with mine, and walked over to me. The two of us bowed slightly, just enough to give a thank you to everyone who enjoyed our performance.

A familiar woman had come over to hand him a mic, and he thanked her.

"Give it up for the owner of Starlight Studio," Harry spoke out, excitement filling his tone.

He then turned to face me again and whispered, "My starlight girl."

The blush on my cheeks was profusely prominent at this rate. "Hey, H?"

"Yeah, baby?"

"You're my brave tiger boy."

Harry smiled again, seeing his cheeks blush the hue of his suit.

"Alright, think I'm going to hand the reins over to one of our best at Urban Corp. She'll do a better job than me," he said, and that got the room to let out laughs. "Here she is, Joelle Larson, everyone. Thank you again for coming, your donations, and your support. I hope you all have a wonderful night."

With that, he handed the mic over to her, giving her a slight hug before walking away to continue with the rest of the planned events of the evening.

I'd taken a quick moment to slip my dress back on, and I was then pulled close to Harry as he placed his hands on my hips.

"You were wonderful up there, my love," Harry spoke softly, gazing into my eyes as we swayed together.

"No, Tiger, that was all you," I replied with a warm smile. "You poured your heart out in that song. I felt everything, and it was because of you. You were the reason why I danced like that. You were the reason why they felt it deep into their souls. You were the reason why there were tears in everyone's eyes. You sang like the voice of an angel, captivating their ears. You were the reason why everyone stood up clapping at the end—all of them, so, so proud of you."

"Me?"

"Yes, you, pretty." Rolling in my lips, I added, pushing some hair away from his forehead. "You've always outshone a crowd, whether through a successful work meeting, a speech for a gala, or a jaw-dropping performance that you gave. I told you, nobody can dare compare to Harry Styles. Tiger, you have it all."

And with those words, he took me off guard by pressing his lips firmly against mine. It wasn't hot and heavy, but surely hot. It was one of those kisses that anyone who walked by would say, "Those two are in love. I need that," not the ever-so-classy "Get a room."

Harry still wasn't much of a PDA man, but he kissed me so passionately in a room filled with people that I was simply proud of him. He's gotten so confident and isn't afraid to do anything anymore. It's exactly what I hoped and dreamt for him for months, and he's finally reached that point.

"Tell me you love me," he murmured against my lips.

"I love you," I whispered, and he puckered once more before pulling back.

"I love you more, baby."

With a grin, I saw his expression mimic mine.

"So..."

"So..." he repeated, a teasing tone to his voice.

"Guess everyone knows we're a thing now," I grinned, placing my hands on his chest.

A chuckle escaped his chest as he looked down at me. "You think? Was it before or after I kissed you?"

My brows raised in surprise."Oh, someone's being sassy tonight."

He smirked. "Just bold, baby."

"I burst the seams on your ego, didn't I?" I spoke, biting the corner of my mouth, then felt him drag his thumb across my lower lip.

"Not at all. With you, I always burst. Wouldn't make a difference."

"You're so damn difficult," I mumbled, and he laughed, burying his face in my neck as he squeezed my waist.

Sweetly, though, he glanced at me once more.

"Can we chat more later, darling?" he said softly, delicately brushing his fingers along my cheeks. I could see the hesitation and slight anxiety through his eyes, I nodded quickly before he pressed his lips back on mine to seal his reply.

"Of cour—" My words were swallowed by me in another chaste kiss before the sound of someone clearing their throats was heard.

And then we also heard that wonderful phrase.

"Yeah, hi. Get a room."

Damn it, Charlie.

"Choco, go wander off someplace else. Leave us alone. Skedaddle," I huffed, flicking my hand, and he laughed.

I felt Harry chuckle against my temple as he moved to rest his lips there in a peck.

"No can do, baby sis," Charlie said with a firm tone, straightening his posture with a smug smirk. "I'm on chaperone duty."

I looked at him with a blank expression, then up at Harry, struggling to hold in a giggle. But in which just moments after, the two burst into a fit of laughter that bounced through the room.

"Children," I mumbled. "The both of you."

"Nah, Rini, we're buddies," my brother said, pulling Harry closer and wrapping an arm around his shoulder.

And that caused me to walk away with a smile on my life, but they didn't need to see that.

I did hear the two snicker behind me when I looked over my shoulder, and they were chatting about something together in joy. I loved seeing him getting along with them—especially hot-headed Charlie.

We eventually made our way over to our families.

And that was still something new to say in my mind. It wasn't just mine anymore—Harry's was included.

His mother and sister happily proudly beside my parents as they conversed, enjoying whatever the topic was. When they noticed that we stood before them, Valentina walked up to Harry, placing her hands on his cheeks, and replacing them with kisses, all whilst telling him how proud she was of him.

I could see the flush in his skin rise, attempting to mask it with a shy smile. Estela then hugged him tight, delighted at everything he'd done tonight.

But the hugs didn't end there.

The Hayes clan pulled him in to do the same for each, along with Amara, Destiny, and even River.

It was probably the first time I'd ever seen him show a genuine smile to my friend. I knew that Harry would forever treat him a tad differently—simply for where his hands have been placed in the past—but it was still heartwarming to see them get along.

My eyes caught a few people gossiping and talking amongst themselves, wondering about the two people who were giving him so much love and attention. One of them commented with a partial truth saying that was 'apparently' his birth mother, and that she would eventually take over part of the company. It was clear which one was the truth. But my favourite came from one of the press chatting on how this would ruin Styles Enterprises, claiming that if he did this to his own family, he could ruin companies with incompetent actions.

I didn't tell Harry, but I was sure that the Styles clan would read those newspaper and tabloid headlines by the end of tomorrow. Some would have delightful smiles, whilst others would frown with rage.

I'm sure the latter would've been wonderful to see, but all I wanted was to see Harry elated in every way possible. I was sure to make that happen.

The night was filled with so much celebration, donations, and support towards every single person. All of it was worth it, and I was so thankful that I agreed to do a performance tonight because I got to see Harry do the one thing he's always loved to do. He shared a secret part of himself with the world and wasn't afraid to do it. He felt at home playing his second favourite instrument.

I knew with creative mind that he could've easily switched the song to a cello, but he kept the original tune, giving it a little Harry-spin on it. I also knew he wanted to keep his favourite instrument to perform for me.

"I'll keep playing this for you, baby. Whenever you want. Can't show it to everyone, though. Just want you to hear it," he'd told me once after I came home late to find him sitting, the cello leaning against his shoulder and a bow in his hand.

"You can play for me all you want and whenever you want, Tiger," I'd replied, smiling as I gave him a peck.

Harry finally tugged me back to him, ensuring I was by his side.

Every time he did something big, he always needed contentment afterwards. He wanted comfort and love, being very needy and craving affection. And I knew he would cuddle me when we got home later tonight.

I would never complain nor be bothered by it.

I'd give that man all the love, comfort, and everything he wanted forever.

We did end up huddled in the corner of the room later, him sipping on a glass of whiskey as the taste of champagne occasionally graced my tongue. But of course, it wasn't long before we'd said our goodbyes and were back in the cosy comfort of our apartment.

We'd showered, dressed into warm pyjamas, and laid in bed together. It was late, but the two of us were wide awake, our hearts thumping against each other. My head rested on his chest as his fingers smoothed along the centre of my back. Our girl Luna was perched up in her favourite cat tower spot with Emmy cuddled against her.

"Sweetheart?" Harry called for me quietly.

"Yeah, Tiger?"

"Can I do something for you?" he asked. I could tell from the tone of his voice that he was nervous.

"You can do anything, baby. What do you want?"

His hand froze in spot. "Can I, um—"

He was silent after that.

"Harry?"

"Can I braid your hair?" Harry's voice was quiet, a mere whisper.

"You want to braid my hair?" I repeated to make sure I heard him right.

"Well, teach me, I guess. Always looks really nice when you do it. I'd like to try doing it for you. Be fun, I think. And practice, maybe."

The way Harry said that one word made my heart beat remarkably faster. If I was right, he certainly hinted that he wanted children in the future—more specifically, a little girl he would absolutely spoil rotten.

"Sure. I think it'll be fun too. C'mere, sit up with me," I said softly, and he obliged.

The both of us sat criss-cross on the bed, him behind me. I pulled a hairbrush out of my bedside drawer and handed it to him. The feeling of him as he carefully dragged it from my scalp to the tips felt like heaven.

If I had known that this would be the feeling, I would've gotten him to brush my hair ages ago. I then brought my hair to the side to briefly show him, but he just told me to instruct him and leave it at that.

So, I explained to Harry the simple process of it all. I turned my head just slightly to see him with a focused expression. Seeing his furrowed brows and bottom lip tucked between his teeth was adorable.

He wasn't pleased, though, and then told me to keep staring ahead so that he could try to do it without mistakes. I mentioned that it was okay and that he could start over as many times as he wanted until he got it right.

And with how it seemed, he truly wanted to get it perfect—especially when he started over multiple times.

I also teased him about how he's supposed to be 'very good with his fingers,' which earned me a familiar sharp tug on my hair telling me to 'behave.'

But then I felt like he was finally getting the hang of things, and it caused a smile to grace my lips.

Harry was talking about random things, just enjoying the moment between us. It was gentle and incredibly domestic. The sweetness of how tender he was being was uncanny and it only made me think of how he was when we first met. We were both incredibly different people and bonding as friends to a couple and going through hardships to falling in love was truly he best thing that could ever have happened to us.

"You know something?" he asked softly, his fingers raking through my hair as he put the strands into the braid.

"What?"

"I love you," he replied, placing a kiss on the nape of my neck.

My lips curled into a smile as I turned slightly for him to see my face.

"I love you more," I said, then felt him lean forward against my neck with a hum.

"Got a tie, love? I think I'm almost done," Harry spoke calmly, and I patted down on the bed to find it and handed it back to him.

"Baby?" he called softly, finishing off the braid. But before he wrapped the tie around the ends, he moved his lips to graze my ear.

"Yeah?" I answered.

And then he whispered four words I very much did not see coming.

"Will you marry me?"

Taking Harry off guard, I turned around suddenly, and he ended up with my braid slapping against his glasses—hard.

"Ow, fuck. Go easy on me. I can barely see as is. Going to throw out my eye here, Es," Harry said, squinting as he removed his specs.

"What?" My eyes were wide as I looked at him.

"I said..." he trailed off, rubbing his eyes before placing his glasses back on the bridge of his nose. His gaze then met mine once more, a slight smile on his mouth. "...will you marry me?"

My lips were parted, still surprised at how the question came out of nowhere.

"Been thinking about it a lot lately, and I can't imagine anyone else I'd like to spend the rest of my life with. Didn't really want to get married after what happened to me, but everything changed the second I fell in love with you. You're everything to me, and I just want to say devoted to you until my last breath. I always want you. Want to continue things like this, watch you dance, and be by your side whenever you need me. I always need you with everything I do.

"I go to my meetings, and you're still on my mind because I can't wait to tell you how my day goes. Driving back home, I'm always excited that I'll see you again and have you in my arms, pulling you in for a fucking kiss. Kissy's that drive me insane, and I know even if we weren't intimate together, I just know a kiss is more than enough that I'll need from you. The rest is a gift. You're my gift, Essie. You're everything to me," he said, sucking his lips in before letting out a deep breath.

Harry wasn't just thinking about this; he was drowned deep in his love for me, and all he could see was the bright light of serenity.

"Asked your family too. It's why I said I had a meeting yesterday. Saw your parents in person and called your brothers. Even went to Amara and River. They all said that they'd support whatever decision you'd make, and if I ever fuck up again, they'll have my neck. Don't blame them, if I'm honest," Harry spoke, biting the inside of his cheek.

That caused a soft laugh to escape my lips, yet my eyes were still a tad wide because he went the extra mile by asking them.

An Englishman sitting on our bed was dead set on one thing in his life, and that involved a promise to spend the rest of his life with a girl who felt the exact same way.

"I know I told you I wanted to marry you on your birthday, and fuck, I wanted to do something even more special than this. But I don't want to do anything more because even though I know you'd love what I'd do, you'll still tell me I didn't need to go all out to propose."

He was right. I would very much have.

"I could go on for fucking ages telling you how much I love you, and I think I wouldn't stop until the time I reached that Antares star you love so much. You're my Essie, you're my star, you're my darling girl. My petal that brought back things I'd thought I'd never do again. Flowers, playing the piano and cello, falling in love again...and wanting to marry someone again. But not just anyone, you, Serenity. You."

It was then that I realised I'd stopped breathing, letting out a heavy puff of air as I felt a tear run down my cheek—one I also didn't notice had even left my eye.

His palm came up to cup my cheek, wiping away the lone droplet with his thumb. I leaned into his gentle touch, pressing a kiss upon what smoothed along my upper lip.

"Besides all that, I saw how you were tonight with me and everyone. Me calling you my girlfriend when all I wanted to do was call you my fiancée, and I hadn't even asked you yet."

He smiled slightly, as the secrets he's kept inside for a while, finally dug their way out of his heart, crawling towards mine.

"So what do you say, baby love? Will you marry me? Make me the happiest fucking man in the world?"

My expression was solemn for a brief moment, studying every part about him, as he, too, flickered his eyes all over my face. He was trying to read me, trying to get an answer from me before I dared to speak.

But he didn't have to wait long.

"Yes." I smiled. "Yes, I'll marry you, pretty."

Before I could process anything else, his other hand cupped my other cheek, and he pulled me forward for a passionate kiss. He was craving everything, savouring the special moment between us.

A hum left Harry's chest as he smiled against my lips. I could feel his happiness radiate with every touch he made.

"My sweet darling girl. I fucking adore you," he mumbled before creating another puzzle between us.

His hands then settled on my hips, urging me to climb atop his lap, and so I did. He held me tight against him before extending his arms to stretch alongside my entire back. His palms were flat just below the nape of my neck. I knew Harry was proving that he could never dare let go of me, no matter the cause.

But he didn't have to worry.

I was already wrapped around his finger, and nothing could unravel me.

"Just adore, eh?" I spoke breathlessly as we parted slightly.

"Adore and fucking more. Not afraid to tell you I love you anymore. Not afraid of anything except losing you. You're mine. You're my Essie."

"You're mine, too. You're my Tiger. I love you so much."

He placed one more kiss upon my lips before moving back. With me still on his lap, he sounded a whistle that echoed in the space, and before I knew it, someone else had joined us on the bed.

Luna graced us, and Harry leaned over to give her a soft pet through her fur before untying something from her collar—something I hadn't noticed before.

"Thank you, miss Tangerine Sweetness," he said with a smile, and she replied with a soft meow. She then pushed out her front paws into a stretch and curled up near the end of the bed.

"Had her hold onto this for a while. Figured it was safe with her since you don't feed her much lately," Harry pointed out with a smug grin, and my jaw dropped.

"Hey! You're making me sound like a bad cat mom," I whined.

"I could never, Essie, baby." His Cheshire's Cat grin was wide as he teased me.

"We were fine before you, you know," I said flatly.

And then Harry smirked.

"I know, sweetheart. Surprised you both lasted so long without starving."

"Alright, nope! I take back what I said. I'm not marrying you," I declared, and tried to get off his lap, but he trapped me in his hold.

Harry laughed, shaking his head in evident disagreement. "No take backs, my love. I'm sorry, but you're stuck with me."

I huffed, squirming to still try and get off, but he gave me a brief warning glare to stop—to which I did.

"Stop squirming, darling. Don't you want to see the ring?"

"I do!"

That caused Harry to chuckle. "Bit early for that, yeah?"

"Oh hush, let me see, H," I spoke with a smile.

The ring was then held between his thumb and forefinger, sparkling so bright even in the dim surroundings. Diamonds, sapphires, and rose gold. Those were the three things that Harry had associated me with, and the same things that were merged together in a circular bond of unity.

It was the same unity that we both now held for the love we shared for each other.

That same emotion might be carried in a hand that would forever cherish on.

But the feeling would never fade from the hearts of two souls meant to find each other, adore, and love each other. Dipped and dripping from veins that overfilled with every sensation known to a pair of treasured hearts captured together by an invisible rope that only kept tugging and pulling until it snapped and came rushing forward.

And that's exactly what happened.

I rushed forward into Harry's life, stumbling into his office confidently to get what I wanted, but I came out with something incredibly unexpected.

Something that neither of us saw coming.

A love to last a lifetime.

A/N:

So...yeah...HE PROPOSED AND SHE SAID YES!!!

How many of you expected it at the start of the chapter? I need to know this information.

But Valentina's little cheek kisses for Harry after the performance, I cry. He's a mumma's boy.

Continuing to my fave part, so what did y'all dig the chapter? What was your favourite part and all? Y'know me and my curious self.

Now...what's next? Well, I'm guessing one or two chapters + an epilogue. Yes, we're practically at the end. I cry (again). Are they written? Not yet. It has been brewed tho.

And ooh, pretty please press on that little star on the chapter, I mean, it only takes a millisecond. They're nice gifts and make me (and Essie...and Tiger) happy.

Kissy, stay golden, and always TPWK my beautiful tulips 🌷

P.S. In case y'all were second guessing Harry's fit...2017 New York was prime.

The other two 'options' Harry (aka me) was struggling to pick between were Paris 2018 and Antwerp 2018. They were beautiful too.

P.P.S. The engagement ring:
