Chapter 4
"Hey...wake up...it's Friday..."
I opened my eyes and discovered that I was laying under a navy blue comforter. Sitting up, I glanced at a clock on the table next to the bed and saw that it was 6:30 in the morning. School begins at 8:00, so I had plenty of time to get ready. It was then that I noticed Caleb standing beside the bed.
"You're finally awake? Good. I'd like to head out early, if that's okay with you," Caleb said. I blinked a couple of times and looked at him better. The dim sunrise light made Caleb's gold-brown hair and hazel eyes glimmer and his skin glow, and he gave the full-fledged appearance of a young god in a tee shirt and khakis. I rubbed my face, trying to hide the blush on my cheeks.
"Yes, I'm fine with that. Now, what should I do?" I asked, not sure of Caleb's morning routine. He thought for a moment, then said,"Well, I'll start eating breakfast now while you do your stuff. There is a spare hairbrush and toothbrush on the second shelf of the closet in the bathroom. I think you're going to have to wear the same clothing because your size, I believe, is smaller than anyone elses. When you're done, come down and eat breakfast, and then you can call your parents. Okay?"
"Okay. Thank you!" I replied. Caleb grinned and waited until I got out of his bed and made it, and then showed me where the bathroom was. As he went to the kitchen, I retrieved both brushes and was ready within five minutes. I ate breakfast, which turned out to be pancakes, and cleaned up quickly, anxious to call Mom.
Caleb got his phone and I called my mother, slightly disappointed when it went to voicemail because I had wanted to hear her voice. After the beep sounded, I said, "Hi, Mom! It's Emma, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm okay." Caleb looked me in the eye and held out his hand. Confused, I muttered,"Um, hold on for a second." Before I could say anything to him, Caleb swiped the phone out of my hand and, to my horror, began speaking.
"Hello, this is Emma's friend, Caleb. I would like to have her stay another night, if you approve. We can head over to your house after school and maybe pick up some belongings for the night. Thanks for letting Emma stay! We had a great time together. Goodbye!"
He hung up and glanced at me. I couldn't stop staring at him, and after a little bit, Caleb smiled and said,"Are you okay there? You look like you're about to bust a vein."
Was I okay? No! I was freaked out that Mom would jump to conclusions when she figured out that the 'friend' was a guy. Especially with the fact that I had a sleepover at his house. "Why did you decide to talk on the message to my mom?!" I shrieked. Caleb was so suprised at my outburst that he stepped back. His arms were limp at his sides and his head hung in guilt.
"I just wanted your parents to know who the friend was, kind of. Ugh, I'm so sorry, Emma, I should've asked you before I did what I did," Caleb whispered. He looked so miserable, poor boy. Oh my god, I feel like such a jerk for yelling at him for a stupid thing.
"No, Caleb, I should be sorry. That was plain stupid, scolding you for something that was going to be addressed sooner or later. Let's just forget about this little skirmish, alright?" I said, smiling and picking up both of our bags for school. "Come on, we can head off to school now and get an early start." I handed Caleb's bag to him and put on my own. Caleb said,"Okay, good. Now, let me go out the door first. There's something to watch for outside at this time, and I especially don't want you to bump into it."
I raised my eyebrows and asked,"Well? What is it that's SO dangerous in the morning around here?" I mean, is it some psychopath or a rabid dog or something like that? Because if that's the case, then that is certainly a problem. I would probably ask/beg Caleb's mom if we could go to school in her car. Though, now that I think about it, that might be a little intrusive.
I snapped out of my thoughts when Caleb chuckled. "To me, it's a nuisance. To you, it's probably the scariest thing of your life right now," he said. He looked through a window on the door and then looked at me, grinning.
"Did that help?"
"No."
Caleb laughed, and then glanced at a watch on his wrist. He told me that it was time to go, and at that moment, his mom came from the kitchen. "I hear that you have to leave now," she said. "If you want to come back tonight, then you may of course. It was so pleasant to meet you!"
"It was a pleasure meeting you as well, Mrs. Nolicke! I will let you know if I'll stay tonight after school today, just so you know in advance," I replied, earning a kind glance and a pat on the shoulder. She kissed her son on the cheek and told him to have a good day.
Caleb opened the door, looked around, and cautiously stepped onto the porch. He paused for a moment and then said,"The coast is clear. Let's go." I followed him to the sidewalk, fearing that something scary was going to pop out of nowhere. After a few minutes of walking without any interruption, we fell into conversation about school and other little things. I heard two voices behind us, and one of them sounded strangely familiar. Caleb's pace quickened, and I wondered if this had to do with the 'danger' that he was talking about. I strained to hear what the two people were saying.
"I wonder how Caleb is doing."
"That girl from science seems a little fishy."
"I told her that she better back off or bad things are going to happen. I definitely scared her."
The two voices, which I found were girls, laughed. A chill went up my spine as I listened to their conversation. Caleb tensed up when he heard as well.
And then it hit me.
I know who that voice belongs to.
It belongs to Lisa.

Dear Readers,
I'M SO SORRY THAT I HADNT UPDATED IN FOREVER AND LEFT YOU SUFFERING AND WAITING!!! Anyway... I hope you all had a wonderful New Year! I just need to share something with you guys real quick because it was absolutely hilarious! I was at German class in school and we're studying time. To practice, our teacher(who's definitelyGerman and is a little,eh,queer) put up different movie covers and the time that they 'start' and we had to translate the time into German. One of them was Thor, and she pointed at it and said,"Oh, I love historical movies." Everyone died when she said that! It was so funny! ...Ah, well, that is pretty much it. Remember- VOTE AND COMMENT AT LEAST!!! Bye!
