Chapter Five

Oh my gosh.
If Lisa finds me with Caleb...
I looked at him, mouthing Lisa. He nodded back, tension crackling around him. As we speeded down the sidewalk, he whispered into my ear, "Run to those bushes over there and hide. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think I'd rather that to being confronted by you-know-who." I nodded and, on the count of three, the two of us sprinted to the greenery, which was thankfully thick enough to keep us covered.
In about two minutes, the clicking of heels and female voices was heard as Lisa and her companion strolled down the concrete. I peeked through a tiny peephole between the branches and saw Lisa, her blonde hair blowing back in the wind. The navy blue dress that she was wearing, along with her white high heels and tan skin, made her look somewhat like a sailor. "Ugh! This bookbag is such a hassle! It's too heavy!" she complained, talking about how school was too much for her. "The only reason I continue to go is because of Caleb. But that girl is getting in the way, so I'll smack her back like she's a pesky fly," Lisa said, laughing as she did. She was almost past us, when she came to a dead stop, staring directly at me. My eyes widened, feeling panic seeping into my veins. Lisa started to walk quickly(she doesn't run for anything/one) towards my spot and squealed, "Oh my gosh!" I braced myself as her hand went at my head, expecting to be pulled out of my cover by my hair. But when she didn't, I opened my eyes and saw Lisa holding a purple flower. "It's so pretty! I'll put it in front of Caleb's locker," she sighed, holding the flower to her chest. "If only he would give me something like this." She went off with her friend, and when the coast was clear, we stepped out of the bush, picking leaves and petals off of our clothing.
"That was close," I said, wiping sweat from my forehead. "Oh, by the way, are you going to fulfill Lisa's dreams?" I asked Caleb, grinning. We began to walk to school once more, and you could see that he was trying to find a good way to say it.
"Not a chance," he said. Caleb glanced over at me and chuckled. "Um, you have something in your hair. I'll get it." He lifted his hand to the side of my head, his fingertips temporarily brushing against my cheek. Both of us turned beet red and he quickly pulled something from my hair. He dropped it into my hand and, after some inspection, I found that it was a purple petal. I smiled at him.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
All of a sudden, the school was in sight. Caleb whispered in my ear, "See you later, Em." He was already by his friends before I had a chance to say anything back. I felt myself blushing as I heard him say Em in my mind. For the first time this year, I couldn't wait until science class.
@@@@@@@
I rushed to science, feeling excited that I could see Caleb again. This was the only class he had with me besides lunch, so I didn't get to see him too often. I greeted the teacher nicely as I walked in the room and sat at my desk, my foot tapping on the ground because it couldn't keep still. Finally, Caleb came in the classroom, causing Lisa to jump up and say in a sweet voice, "Why, hello, Caleb!"
He said, "Hi," making every girl swoon for some reason except myself. As he put his belonging down at his seat, he looked over at me and inconspicuously winked. Fortunately, the girls didn't notice, and soon enough Mrs. Lekanow sent us off to work on the science project with our partners. We were able to finish a lot before the bell rang, and the day went by without any confrontations by Lisa.
Caleb met me in the library once again and I called my mom to ask if I could stay at his house another night. "Of course, dear! Bring your friend over so we can meet him. Also make sure to pack some things this time! See you later! Bye!" My mom said, probably drowning in ecstasy right then. I never really had friends, so just having one alone makes my family very happy. Caleb texted his mom to say that I'm staying over another night, but that he'll be a little bit late. She gave him her consent, and within minutes, we were at my house. I turned to Caleb. "Are you ready to be bombarded by my family?" I asked, feeling extremely nervous.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
"Good."
He saw my anxiety and put his hand on my shoulder. "It'll be fine," he said, smiling. I smiled back and walked up the pathway to the front door. I took a deep breath, turned the doorknob, and opened the door.

P.S- By the way, if you're one of those people who check out the comments after you read, in Chapter Two, it has a comment from me saying that it's a great story and all that. Well, my grandmother didn't realize she was on my account and put a comment down in my name. LOL. Just to let you know. :)
