I laid in my bed, tears streaming down my cheeks. The regular thoughts ran through my head: 'You're not loved, there's nothing good about you, you're not needed.' I pressed my hands against my forehead, trying to get those words out of my mind. It worked, and after a few minutes, I fully composed myself and left the house for school. My depression dragged me down, yet no one at school knows that.so, at school, I just lay low and nobody notices me.

The classes went by and then science came along. The teacher, Ms.Lekanow, told us that we'll be doing a project with partners. I inwardly groaned. Great, I thought, I'm SO wonderful at being around other people, let alone working with them.

Ms.Lekanow said,"Okay, class, I assigned each of you to work on this project. When I tell you who your partner is, you may pair up with them. If you don't know your partner well, you can use this period to get to know each other.This is a project that will most likely be worked on after school as well as here." All the girls around me were buzzing with excitement. "Oh, I hope Caleb is my partner!" and "Me too!" and they all laugh, but they glance at one another because all of them know that they'd fight for Caleb. Caleb Nolicke is the most popular guy in school, the star of the football team, and, according to everyone, very attractive and smart.

Honestly, I don't know what I think about Caleb. I like to stay out of the spotlight, so I just do average things and work so I don't stand out. I like to be alone. Then I hear the teacher say,"Caleb, your partner is..." All the girls held their breath. I wasn't expecting to be picked for a while, so I took a book, "Trapped", out of my backpack and started to read. "...Let's pick Emma."

What?!

I shoved my book back into my bag before Mrs.Lekanow could see it. How can I be partnered with Caleb. I mean, nobody in this place even knows I exist, while Caleb is practically on the forefront of every conversation you hear in school! Mrs. Lekanow continued, "Emma, raise your hand so Caleb knows where you are. Caleb, take your belongings and move next to her."

I lifted my hand, and when Caleb's gaze fell upon me, his eyes lit up. He put his bag on the floor beside my desk and sat next to me. The teacher went through the rest of the pairs and as she did so, more dirty looks than I can count were shot at me by the girls in class. Then Mrs. Lekanow said we could start.

Caleb turned to me, a slightly shy smile on his face.

"Well then, let's begin."
