"So, since I don't really know you, I suggest that w e use this period to get to learn about each-other," Caleb said."I do know that your name is Emma, but that's pretty much it." He looked at me, probably thinking that I'll spill my whole life out because he knows that any girl would take this opportunity to do so.

Well, I am not in the 'any girl' category.

"Um, well, my favorite place in this school is the library, and I can speak in German," I muttered, trying to think of anything different about me, besides the fact that I have moderate depression. But that's a secret, of course. Nobody knows that except my parents and my doctor.

Caleb raised an eyebrow and asked,"Anything else?"

"No."

"Friends?"

"I don't have any."

Caleb looked at me, most likely trying to decipher the puzzle of my life. Then he smiled and his eyes widened. "Then I'll be your friend! No one has to know, since I think you like to stay in the shadows, kind of. But I have to invite you to my house today so you and I can become friends, and we can also work on this project as well," he said, his voice low enough so that the class couldn't hear him.

My mind was going in a million different directions from what he said to me. How did we go from 'I don't know you all that well' to 'I'll be your friend so come over to my house'? How can we be friends without staying out of the limelight?

"Please? What's there to think about? Just call your parents and say that someone asked if you can come over to their house. Please, Emma? Pretty please?" Caleb begged, looking like he was ready to get on the floor and beg. To prevent that from happening, I just agreed with him." Alright, I'll go. But I don't have a phone to call my parents."

"Cool! I can let you borrow my phone at the end of the school day. Is it okay if I meet you in the library after school?" Caleb whispered, his smile causing some of the girls to swoon and others to glare at me some more. I nodded my head in consent. At that moment, the bell rang. Caleb popped out of his chair, and packed up his things. "I guess I will see you at the library in a few hours. Bye, Emma!" Caleb grinned, waving as he walked out of the room. I stood up, but before I could even sling my bookbag over my shoulder, a group of some angry-looking girls walked up to me. The girl in the front, a pretty popular girl named Lisa said,"Look, I know that you're Caleb's partner, but that doesn't mean that you can take him as your own. If you do, you are going to be in a lot of trouble with us, hon." The others chimed in with their opinions and then like duckling following their mother, they all walked behind Lisa as she went out of the classroom, one having the nerve to give me the stink eye.

I took a deep breath, told myself that it's alright, and went through the rest of the day without an incident. It was finally dismissal time, and as I was grabbing books out of my locker, Lisa swooped by and smacked the books from my hands, at the same time pushing me into the wall. I began to panic. What was this girl going to do to me? Before she could make her move, though, Lisa suddenly was pulled back from me and that person stood in front of myself. All of us gasped when we realized who it was.

The person was Caleb.

"What do you think you're doing to this poor girl, Lisa?" Caleb said, obviously furious at Miss Popular. Before she could say a word, Caleb almost shouted,"Get out of here!" Lisa practically sprinted down the halls and out the doors.

Oh. My. God.

Let's hope I get through this year without getting pretty much murdered by Lisa.
