Chapter 3: Nightmares

"I love you Lexie. We'll be back in no time. It's just a simple mission." My mom said grabbing my hands and kissing my forehead.

"Don't be late this time." I said. Their last mission they had to extend and they missed my birthday. It was my 13th. Director Krane made me cake and let me have a sleepover with Lincoln though.

"We won't. I promise my little bumble bee." My dad said and pulled me into a hug.

"I love you Dad."

"I love you too sweetheart. We've got to get going though. Don't let Director Krane work you to hard while we're gone."

I watched as they walked to their helicopter. They waved to me as before they got inside. I smiled and waved back. I turned to walk back inside after the helicopter was in the air.

Next thing I knew the loudest sound I had ever heard rang out. I turned around so fast I almost tripped. I watched as the helicopter exploded. My small body flung back and everything went dark.

"Dad!" I screamed as I woke up. I felt the wetness from my tears on my face. My heart was racing and I felt as if I couldn't breath. I sat up and pulled my knees to my chest. My head rested on my knees until I could breathe again.

I was still in clothes Simon had dressed me in this morning. I looked over at the alarm clock. It was 4pm. I had fallen asleep during the day.

"Are you okay? Is everything okay?" Davie asked as he and Cameron bursted through my door.

"I'm fine. I was napping and had a bad dream. I'm sorry." I said and pulled a pillow to my chest. I was still trying to slow my breathing.

"Are you sure?" Cameron asked.

"Yeah. Um I think I'm just gonna go work out." I said getting up from my bed.

"Okay..." Davie said hesitantly before both of them walked out of my room. I shut the door so I could change. I changed into a pair of leggings and a sports bra. I slipped on a pair of running shoes and made my way downstairs.

Kathrine and Phillip has turned the downstairs bedroom into a small gym. There was a treadmill and a few other small work out equipment in there including weights. I'm happy I was put into a house that's big on physical fitness. I would suffer if I couldn't work out.

I put in my AirPods and started playing music before I got on to the treadmill and just started running. I loved running. The whole world just went away when I ran. I finally just had some peace and quiet in my mind.

I had no idea how long I was running for before someone else came into the room. It had been an hour since I started running and I had ran 9 miles. I turned to see that it was Kathrine who came in. She was just standing by the doorway. I slowed down the treadmill and took out my AirPods.

"Hey I was just coming in to say that dinner is almost ready if you want to come out and eat." Kathrine said and handed me a bottle of water out the mini fridge they had in here. It was stocked full of water and Gatorade.

"Thanks. I'll finish up then change and be right out." I said. She nodded her head and left the room.

I made my way back to my room to change out of the clothes I worked out in. As I was changing I couldn't help but notice all the scars I had gotten through out the years. I was covered in them. From gun shot wounds to various cuts. The biggest one was on my stomach. Debris from my parents helicopter accident flew and hit me in the stomach. I had many surgeries after that.

I decided to take a quick shower to rinse off all the sweat before i went back downstairs. It wasn't too bad here. I think It'll be comfortable for a couple weeks while i'm here. They all seem nice enough that we'll get along and then i can go back to the SIO and never see them again.

I quickly got out of the shower and dressed into sweatpants and an oversized Aerosmith t-shirt. I put on fuzzy socks. My toes were cold and I wanted to be comfy.

When I walked into the dining room everyone was sitting at the table including Cameron and a boy I didn't recognize.

"Oh if I knew there were going to be more people I wouldn't have dressed in my pajamas." I laughed awkwardly.

"It's okay it's just Jefferson. He's on the football team with Cam and I." Davie said.

"Oh. Well, hi Jefferson. I'm Alexis." I introduced myself to him as I sat at the empty seat at the table next to Davie and across from Jefferson.

"You can call me Jake. It's nice to meet you." He said with a smile. What is with these boys and having these amazing smiles?

"It's nice to meet you too Jake." I said smiling back at him. I can't lie, he is a gorgeous human. I could hardly keep my eyes off of him. He was so dreamy. He was the kind of guy Lincoln and I would gush over. I miss Lincoln.

"Alexis?" I heard Davie say and nudge me a little.

"Huh?" I asked snapping out of it.

"Jake asked when you were starting school." Davie said.

"Oh um I don't know. When am I starting school?" I asked Kathrine.

"I think you start Monday. We'll have to go shopping before then." Kathrine answered.

"Cool so you'll be able to go to the homecoming dance next Saturday." Jake said with a small smile.

"I don't know if I'll go." I said.

"What? Why not?" Kathrine asked.

"I've never really been the dance type." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"You've got to go. It's so much fun. High school dances are some of my best memories of high school." Kathrine said trying to convince me.

"I don't know. Maybe." I said.

"I'll take that as a yes." Kathrine said with a smile.

"Cool." Jake said with a smile. I watched as he took a sip of his water. I didn't even know you could find doing that attractive but it was extremely attractive.

I heard my phone start going off in my pocket. No one had my new number yet so I immediately knew that it was my burner phone.

"Can I be excused?" I asked Kathrine.

"Uh yeah sure." She said unsure. I quickly got up and went outside on the porch to answer the phone.

"Hello." I answered the phone as I sat on the porch swing.

"I told you this wasn't the end." I heard Lincoln say.

"Lincoln?!" I gasped. "What are you doing? How did you get this number?" I asked.

"I don't know maybe the fact that I'm sleeping with the man who gave you this phone."

"You know this is against every protocol we were ever given."

"I don't care I just needed to know you were okay. You got thrown out. If that were me I have no idea what I would do." Lincoln said.

"I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just trying to keep it all together." I lied. I hated lying to Lincoln.

"I wish I was with you. Things aren't the same without you. Did you get the rings?"

"Yes I did. They're beautiful. I love them." I said as my throat tightened a little. I missed Lincoln so much already. I wasn't going to see him again for weeks. I hadn't ever spent a whole day away from him in 12 years.

"I've got to go before Simon kills me. I love you." He said quickly and i could hear the sadness in his voice. I heard the front door open but I didn't bother to look who it was.

"I love you too." I said and he hung up the phone. I shut the phone and put it in my pocket.

I pulled my knees up to my chest and wiped away the tears that were streaming from my eyes.

"Are you okay?" I heard Davie ask as he sat next to me on the swing.

"I feel like you've been asking me that a lot today. I promise I usually don't cry this much." I said laughing a little.

"It's okay to cry. There's nothing wrong with it."

"Thanks for being so kind to me today." I said to him.

"I get it from my mom." He smiled sweetly.

"You're mom is very kind and Cameron is too. You're all just really kind. I'm not like that. I'm not a nice person." I said and wiped away my tears again.

"I don't believe that."

"You don't even know me."

"I don't need to. I can see it."

I looked away from him and looked down at the ground. It was silent for a few moments as I listened to my breathing.

"So I see that you're all gaga for Jefferson." Davie said breaking the silence.

"I am not." I said laughing.

"You were practically drooling." Davie and said and we both started laughing.

"No I wasn't!" I exclaimed.

"He's a good guy and I could tell he was interested in you too."

"Doubtful." I said.

"It's true he definitely has a thing for you." He said laughing.

Before I could say anything the front door opened and Jake came out.

"Is everything alright?" He asked.

"Yeah everything's fine. We were just about to head inside." I said standing up.

"I'm gonna go in right now. I'll meet you guys in there." Davie said then made his way inside.

"He's really weird sometimes but he's the best I guy I know. All he's been talking about for days is finally having a some sort of sibling even if it's just a foster sibling." Jake said smiling.

"He's really sweet... I'm gonna head inside." I said awkwardly.

"Wait... here's my number. Call me sometime." He said handing me a piece of paper.

"I uh... okay." I said and rushed inside blushing.
