Chapter 4: First Day

It had been four days since I moved in. Most of my time had been spent exercising or talking to Davie. Cameron has been here practically everyday but we hadn't really talked.

I was starting school today and my "internship" afterwards. Yesterday Kathrine had taken me to get school supplies and my uniform. Apparently I was going to be going to a private school. I had to wear a white button up shirt tucked in either a red skirt or red slacks, a grey and red blazer or cardigan, black heels or dress shoes.

After I got dressed in the uniform. I chose the slacks and cardigan. We all were sitting at the table eating breakfast. Kathrine had made a big spread for our first day.

"Alexis is it okay if Cameron takes you to your internship today?"

"Yeah if that's fine with him." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Yeah it's fine. I have to stop by my dad's office anyway." Cameron replied.

"Okay cool." I said then awkwardly continued eating my food.

I rode with Davie in his car to school. Cameron took his own car. We had gotten to the school pretty quickly. I didn't know why but I was nervous.

"Let's get this over with." I whispered to myself as I got out of the car. I followed Davie into the school and he walked me to the office to get my schedule and locker number.

We didn't have our first class together but he still walked me there before he made his way to his class.

I took a deep breath and walked into the classroom. I immediately made my way to the back of the classroom. I sat in one of the open desks.

"You're in my seat." Jake said with a goofy smile walking up to me. I had a feeling this wasn't actually his seat. He left the smile on his face as he sat in the desk next to me.

"So I wouldn't have guessed that AP World Economics was your thing." I said to Jake.

"Well that's the thing about me nobody really expects the brains and the beauty."

"Sure." I said rolling my eyes.

"You haven't texted or called." He said.

"I guess I just didn't want to." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Jacob Jefferson what are you doing in my classroom? This isn't your class!" I heard the teacher yell from her desk.

"I guess that's my cue to leave." Jake said before hurrying off out of the class.

I shook my head and laughed at him.
.........................

It was finally lunch. Davie asked if I wanted to sit with him and his friends but I didn't really feel like awkwardly sitting around with a group of people I hardly had anything in common with.

I decided to spend my lunch time in the library. One thing I didn't really ever get the chance to do is read just for the sake of reading a book. I earned the equivalent of three masters degrees by the time I was 14 but I never sat down and read a book series like Harry Potter. I spoke 7 different languages but I never read Harry Potter. Being around normal people my age just made my whole life seem bonkers.

"Harry Potter. That's a good choice. I've probably read all of them like a thousand times." A girl who was walking by stopped and said.

"Yeah. I just figured it was finally time to read them." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"They're by far my favorite book series." She said with a smile.

"Cool. I'll definitely check them out then."

"I'm Stacy by the way." She said introducing herself. She held her hand out for me to shake.

"I'm Alexis. It's nice to meet you." I said and shook her hand.

"You're the new girl right? Davie's foster sister?" She asked.

"Yup that's me."

"Wow you're really pretty." She said.

"Oh. Thank you." I said smiling.

"Sorry when I get anxious I blurt out random thoughts."

"It's okay. I think you're really pretty too."

"Oh thanks." She said with a wide smile.

"Do you wanna sit with me?" I asked her. She nodded and we made our way to the closest table.

"So does everybody here just know everything about everyone." I asked her.

"Basically. There's only about 100 people that go to this school and we've all grown up together so no matter what you kinda just know everyone."

"That's kinda bonkers don't you think? How much does this school cost to go to?"

"About the same as most universities."

"Holy shit! Why would Davie's parents pay so much for me to go here?"

"Because unlike most of the other parents here they're some of the good ones. The people who actually deserve the money they're earning."

"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.

"I mean they're actually kind and care about their kid and people. They aren't garbage humans like most people here."

"They have been really kind to me." I said softly.

"That's a really pretty necklace." She said randomly changing the subject.

"Oh thanks." I said. I touched it instinctually. I felt my heart drop when I couldn't feel the rings. I looked down at the necklace. They were gone.

"I uh I'm gonna... go." I said before quickly getting up. I refaced my steps all the way to the books and out into the hallway.

I wasn't paying attention as I was rushing down the hallway I ran into a person and fell on my ass.

"God damn it!" I groaned.

"Woah Alexis are you okay?" I heard a familiar voice ask. I looked up to see Cameron.

"I'm perfectly fucking fine." I said standing up and brushing off my pants.

"You don't seem like it."

"I'm amazing see look I'm smiling." I said faking a wide smile and then walked away from him.

"Where are you going?" He ask trying to catch up with me.

"Somewhere I can punch something." I said as we continued walking.

"Why don't we just go to the gym? There's plenty of punching bags." Cameron suggested.

"Perfect where is it?" I asked.

"Take the next right then it's the second door on the left." He said. I followed his directions and we made it to the gym. There were two guys in the corner of the gym making out.

"Get out!" I yelled. They looked horrified and ran out of the gym.

"Holy crap! That was Frankie and Ben. I didn't know..."

I kicked off my heels. I took off my cardigan and threw it on the ground. I took off my glasses and set them on my cardigan.

Cameron went and held one of the bags and I started punching it.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Cameron asked.

"I'm... fine." I said while I continued punching the bag.

"You don't really seem fine."

"I said I'm fine. Okay." I stopped hitting the bag.

I can't believe I was so stupid to loose those rings just days after getting them.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Cameron asked.

"No. I just. I... I'm gonna head to class." I said grabbing my stuff of the ground.

"We've got 10 minutes..." He called out but I just walked away from him.

"Hey Alexis wait up!" I heard a voice down the hall call out as I rushed down the hallway. I sighed and turned around to see Jake.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Nothing. Just to talk."

"I'm a little busy right now maybe some other time." I said walking away from him. I didn't wait and listen for a reply.
..........................

After school I had to change into clothes for my internship with Cameron's dad. I changed into a high waisted black pencil skirt, a long sleeved maroon blouse, a white blazer, and a pair of simple white heels. I pulled my hair into a tight bun and made sure my glasses were on.

Cameron dropped me off at his dad's office which was a very tall probably 100 floor building.

I didn't want to be at this stupid internship. This was ridiculous.

When I walked in I checked in with security and they gave me a badge that said 'Executive Assistant Alexis Luna, high security clearance' and had my ID picture. I clipped it on to the waist of my skirt and I made my way to the elevator to get up to the top floor to meet with Richard.

As the elevator doors were closing someone's arm stuck between the doors and stopped them. The man who walked in was fairly attractive. He was dressed in blacks slacks, a button up dress shirt tucked into the slacks, and a blue tie. He had the sleeves of his shirt rolled up and his badge clipped on to the waist of his pants like mine was. His badge read CFO Ryan Johnson, high security clearance.

CFO so he's the guy right below Richard. He's definitely someone worth looking into.

"Hi, you must be Richard's new assistant. I'm Ryan." He introduced himself to me after reading my badge as I did his.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Alexis." I said with a fake smile.

"He usually gives the high school interns some copying or mailroom job. I was surprised to find out that he had hired you to be his assistant. You must be someone really special."

"Must be." I said awkwardly and before either one of us could say anything else the elevator door opened. I heard the gunshots before the door even opened all the way.

As the door opened I saw 10 men in ski masks holding guns to Richard's head. There were a bunch of men knocked out on the ground, probably about 12 of them. I'm assuming from Richard but they clearly overpowered him. He was covered in blood and about to collapse on the ground.

Damn they weren't kidding when they said someone was trying to kill him.

"Where is he?!" One man screamed at Richard pressing a gun against his head.

I pulled out the gun from my skirt and shot the man's hand that was holding the gun to Richard's head.

I charged at one of the men. He pulled his gun at me but I knocked it out of his hand before he could fire off a shot. I shot his leg then grabbed his gun off the ground.

As I ran behind the desk that was outside of his office I felt a searing pain in my arm. I got shot. I used the desk as cover as the men started to shoot at me. I shot at them from behind the desk, hitting a man with every shot.

Eventually they were all down and I got out from behind the desk to go help Richard.

"Are you okay?" I asked helping him up and to his desk.

"I'm fine. Thank you Alex." He said wincing as he sat up straight. He clearly wasn't fine.

"Should we call the police?" I asked.

"No." Ryan said coming out of the elevator that was propped open by an unconscious or dead body.

"Ryan are you okay?" Richard asked.

"I'm fine. They didn't even notice me after Alexis came charging out of the elevator. I can see why you hired her now. After what the 10 attacks on your life just in the past two weeks. She's not actually a high school student is she? She's ex SIO just like us?"

"Wait what?" I exclaimed.

"Yes he used to be SIO too." Richard said.

"You're saying that you're also a highly trained individual who used to work for the most elite government agency and you let me deal with those guys by MYSELF!" I yelled at Ryan.

"You had it handled." He said shrugging his shoulders.

"I'm gonna kill you." I growled at him.

"Alexis calm down, let's take care of your arm. You were shot. Then let's call the SIO and clean this up." Ryan said.
