Cason

I looked down at Brooke as she fell asleep, snoring softly. I chuckled and turned back to the movie. Michael had just saved SJ from dying in the car crash. I felt a nudge on my shoulder, so I turned to the person. It was Auntie Quinn.

"What's up?" I whispered, making sure Brooke didn't wake up.

Quinn smiled and whispered back, "She seems pretty comfortable, eh?"

I blushed and turned away. "She's just tired."

Quinn slowly nodded her head, rolling her eyes. She patted my shoulder and whispered, "Yeah right."

We sat in silence for a while, just watching the movie. It was the scene where Michael was on the football team and they were at the game. Quinn turned to me and motioned to Brooke's sleeping figure.

"Looks like Sleeping Beauty is waking up. I think this is my cue to leave."

With that, she winked and went back to her seat on the floor. I looked down at Brooke, gasping when I saw that her eyes were already open. She smiled and whispered, "Hi."

I smiled back and said, "Hey." I sat up, bringing Brooke up with me. I kissed the top of her head and whispered in her ear, "Sleep well?"

She shivered and hugged me closer. I smirked when she squirmed and her her face. I chuckled and lifted her off my body. I got up and stretched, cracking my tired bones. I yawned and turned back to Brooke. "I'm going to the bathroom, be right back."

She nodded, so I walked to the bathroom.

When I was done, I started walking back to the living room. I heard laughter and someone singing. What is that? I thought. I sped walked to the living room, stopping just outside of the door.

My eyes widened and I gasped as I realized the person was me. My voice was the person I heard singing. My jaw dropped and I leaned on the wall for support. It was my singing Lotus Flower Bomb in the shower of the treehouse! Brooke must've recorded me singing!

Speaking of the she-devil, Brooke turned and locked eyes with me. Her eyes widened and she said something, but I didn't hear it I didn't want my whole family to know that I could sing! It was supposed to be something private! Being a singer is a dream I have. I didn't want anyone to know about it, because they'd want me to go after my dream.

I want their support, but... my father wanted something else for me. I was going to do what he wanted me to do, no matter what. My family tried to make me sing before, but I never would after Dad died. I didn't want anything to change now. On top of that, I'm pretty sure my singing is terrible! She just embarrassed me in front of my family. My whole family was looking at me and smiling, nodding their heads to the beat of the song.

All I could think of was how fake their smiles seemed. I had a flashback of when I was five years old. I had started singing and I decided that I should enter the school's talent show. I had been practicing when my father ran into the room and told me to stop the noise. I thought I was pretty good, but he never seemed to think so. I only wanted to impress him, but I never could.

I had felt so upset that day. He had long since told me I was terrible, but I had written that song. It was a heartfelt—well as heartfelt as a five year olds song could get—and dedicated it to him. I quit singing, despite my other family members trying to urge me on. Mom finally divorced him, telling him to never come near us again. Aiden hadn't been born yet, so he didn't even know about Dad.

Mom married again a few years later, to Harry Jackson. He was Aiden's real fair her and not mine, so I used to hate him. But he loved me like I was his own son, even when I told him I hated him. I learned to love him and even started calling him Daddy. When he died, it was devastating. He had heard me singing in the shower one time and tried to get me to sing again, but I was adamant.

I didn't want to because I didn't think I was any good. I refused to sing for months until I started singing in the shower again, thinking about Harry. He had wanted me to sing, so I decided I would. At least in the shower.

I zoned back into the situation at hand. I saw Aiden's eyes widen in panic. I had told him everything about my father and even more about Harry, so he knew how upset I was when people heard me sing.

"BROOKE!" I yelled.

She turned to me, eyes wide. I sighed and left the room. I was too upset to say anything and I didn't trust myself when I was this frustrated. I left the house and started to run. I used to do this with Harry every day. We always ran, sometimes silently, other times just talking about random things.

I could feel tears rolling down my cheeks, but I kept running. I ran blindly, somehow managing to avoid running into anything. I stopped running and fell to the ground. I looked up, my eyes widening in surprise. I was at Harry's gravestone! I cried harder, losing my breath with each sob. I cried and cried, soon starting to feel lightheaded. I heard sounds behind me, resembling footsteps.

"Cason!" It sounded like Brooke, but I couldn't be sure. I felt myself losing breath and fast. I was having an asthma attack. I was slowly losing my consciousness from not being able to breathe.

The last thing I heard was the voice again, telling me everything would be okay.
