Chapter 3
"love isn't real until it hurts."

POV- Trystan
A slow smile creeps up the corner of my lips as I stare down at the mutilated body in front of me in the torture chair. A feeling washes over me, a feeling of content as the guards pull the deceased corps away from me.
I sigh and rub my red blood stained hands on a rag that I had been handed. I place down the wip and the saw before leaving the torture chamber. It makes me feel alive when I hear their screams and pleads for me to stop, it makes me feel like the viscous beast I was born to be.
It started a few years after she died, I wouldn't leave the mansion so they decided that it would be best if they brought distractions for me. To distract me from the thoughts and dreams that have been haunting me for years.
My beta Ty approaches me with a grim look on his face, "we've captured another group" he says his gaze cast downward.
I know he was guilty about what went on down here, but he knew I would isolate myself otherwise. This gave me a rush and without it I would be utterly lost.
I nod at him before leaving the dungeon and heading back up the stairwell Ty following close behind.
"How long will this continue, Alpha?" He asks when we reach the top of the stairs. He locks the door behind us and I continue down the hall not stopping.
I shrug, "for as long as I need until I deem it unnecessary" I answer.
"It's been years... hundreds have been sacrificed" he whispers.
I freeze and spin around my eyes hard and cold, "killed. Not sacrificed, killed. Don't say it as if you want to hide the fact that we are murdering innocent humans everyday" I snap.
My betas eyes go wide as he head lowers, "yes, Alpha. Sorry" he apologizes.
"Accepted, leave, out of my sight" I say and don't want for an answer before stalking towards my chambers.
I slam the door behind me, my eyes glued to the picture frame sitting on my bedside table. Her shinning eyes stare up at me. Her smile bright and happy, I know she wouldn't be proud of what I was doing but I needed it. Or else I would betray the promise I had made to this pack. I would betray it and follow after my mate, so I could be with her again.
I was selfish that was one thing I was certain of but I couldn't help it my heart was broken and a void of black without her.
My werewolf hearing picks up on something and my head jerks up, I stand as trudge towards the door pulling it open fast. A little stubby boy stands with his hand up as if ready to knock.
"What?" I ask.
His blue eyes widen, "I..umm... we have visitors"
-
I slam the doors to the throne room open all eyes turn on Me, most cowering in fright others sizing me up. I scowl and sit in my seat, everyone follows suit waiting for me to speak first.
Before I am able to get a word out the doors open once more and the previous alpha, my father and mother walk in their gazes shoot straight for me. My fathers eyes narrow and my mother flashes a genuine warm smile before taking a seat next to her mate.
"Why are you here?" I ask.
"We bring you news son, from the inner Royals committee"
My eyes widen, I wasn't expecting a anything from the committee. The royals committee is set to make sure that all packs are following the pack rules and regulations set in place hundreds of years ago by the founding pack members.
"What message do they send?" My fathers piercing green eyes, roam over my face stopping at the scar still etched across my face reaching from my left eyebrow to the top of my lip. That night from the battle it still is there as a reminder of my failure to my mate and pack.
I close my eyes calming my wolf down before I hear a sigh and my father answers.
"It's the rules son I'm so sorry" my mom buts in before my dad can answer. I look at her confusing marring my expression.
"The committee declares that every raining alpha, in charge of a pack must have a Luna raining by his side for his remaining time as Alpha . So that the decisions are weighed equally between to rulers and genders. Making sure the pack gets the best chance at thriving."
My heart falls at his words, I hear most of the other people in the room take in a breath and hold it, waiting for what I would do.
"When would I need to find one?" I ask the most logical question.
"A few days at most" my father says.
I take a deep breath my mind swimming, as much as I hated the idea I was also thankful that not all the decisions and pressure would be placed on me if I got a new Luna.
"Okay we're done here, let the committee know I'll find one" I say as I stand shooting my beta one look and glancing towards my dad's ashen face and my mothers sad gaze as they watch me walk out.
I take the rest of the night to think and sleep on it, deciding to make my decision in the morning.
-
I wake up in the morning my mind reeling, I pace my room thinking about the best way to go with this. It would take days for me to roam the country searching for a wolf ready for this, we don't have the time. Also a wolf would be to complicated since they are always in search for their mate. They're other half, they would be looking to into this partnership probably looking for love and a family.
But if I just plucked out a tiny human then they'd be afraid and wouldn't know any better than to follow my rules and hopefully wouldn't be too much of a nuisance.
Ty, I've made my decision. Take me to the prisoners.
I walk down the same stairs as I had come up yesterday, my beta leads the way as two guards open the door of the cell holding all the prisoners.
I had decided to look for one the total opposite of what my mate Lea had looked like. Lea had long platinum hair, that cascaded down her back perfectly her crystal blue eyes big and curious. I needed someone that wouldn't remind me of her.
They were lined up the best they could in a semi circle, their scared faces shrunk away as I strode in power radiating off me I bet they could tell.
I wanted a strong luna with a will to question me to stand up and not look frightened so I'd know she'd take good care of the pack.
I passed my many faces some with blue eyes some with brown. Their faces dirtied from a few nights without showering or a proper meal I almost felt bad. Almost.
I paced by a second time most fearing me and not meeting my gaze, I passed by a brunette her features unchanging, her eyes still staring curiously at my passing figure. The girl beside her with bright orange hair, shrinks away she lets out deep breaths and is shaking slightly the difference evident as I stand in front of the brunette. A stark opposite from Lea.
I look to Ty, "This one" I call out, most of the humans let out a breath and I look back to the one standing still in front of me. Her features unmoving. I watch as fear creeps into her eyes as it registers in her mind.
The red head beside her lets out a terrified sob, grasping onto the brunettes tattered sweater. The brunette turns from my piercing gaze and looks at who I assume is her friend and whispers as she hugs her friend.
"I'll get out and come free you and everyone else, I promise" unaware I can hear her, I motion for one of the guards to grab her.
She lets go and the guards hold her, I sweep my gaze over everyone else before stalking out of the cell. I don't turn to know that everyone is following on my heels as I lead us out of the dark dungeons. My new life awaiting with this new stranger.
