Chapter 4
"I don't see stars in your eyes, I see galaxies"
♚
POV-Evelyn
I am guided up a dark staircase, winding up until I am in front of a large door at the top. The someone unlocks and I am guided through. My pulse is racing, since I still have no clue why I had been brought here now I've been separated from the rest of the group I am even more exposed.
The man who is around my age, stops then turns around. His gaze sweeps over us all stopping on me before I am guided into a different direction then where he had gone bringing alone half of the men who were originally with us.
We pass down some long corridors with many pictures scattering the walls, we pass by quickly not giving me a chance to look. I'm less afraid now that he mysterious man has gone that I won't be tortured until I die.
We stop in front of a large wooden door, "go inside" I am commanded. I nod taking one shaky step in front of myself and twisting the nob, the door opens a crack and I glance in.
"Go in and wait until someone comes to help you. Don't go anywhere" he says. I swallow then of stepping into the dark room. The door closes behind me, and I am alone.
I let out a sigh of relief and pad over to the curtains which are closed, I pull them open letting a stream of yellowish pink light filer into the room. Fully illuminated now I take in the luxurious high ceilings, the large wardrobe which towers over me. Then I turn to see a large bed, I contain my excitement as I walk over towards it.
I sit and my body relaxes as I hit the soft cushy material. My bones ache from sitting on hard cold floor and I remember every one still down there. Meg must be beyond worried about me. I had promised her before I got taken away that I would escape and find her. I wasn't about to break that promise the first real chance I had I would go and free her and the rest.
A knock sounds at the door and it opens, I panic and end up crossing one leg over the other. A petit girl walks in holding a bundle of stuff, I crain my neck to look but fail to spot anything of importance. She places them down sighing as if it weighed a ton.
She turns to me and sends me a sheepish smile, hesitantly, I return the smile. She waddles over and bows.
"It is my honour to be your personal assistant" she states. My brows furrow she bows still and a giggle erupts from me.
"Um I have no clue what you're talking about but, I'm Evelyn. " I say. She seems thrown off guard by what I said.
She stands, blinks at my hand then at my smile. A large smile stretches across her face as she takes my hand in hers.
"I'm guessing you're still unaware of what is happening but you'll be told later I presume," her clear blue eyes twinkle as she says this, "I'm Holly"
-
Holly had told me she was in charge of making sure I get to where I need to be and dress how I need to dress. Which was still all confusing but she kept saying I'd be told everything later. She seemed genuine so my guard wasn't up around her but deep down there was still a hint of fear since I had no idea who these people were.
"This won't be where you stay, but for the time being until the other accommodations are complete then this will be your living quarters." She walks over to the bundle of stuff she had brought in with her. She pulls her dark hair up into a ponytail and unravels what she brought.
A wonderful smell enters my nose, she carries over a platter of food placing it onto a table.
"We thought you might be hungry so-" Holly turns as I go for the food, I dodge her as she scrambles away from the table.
"Thank you!" I say, before digging in to the food served in front of me.
Holly gets busy with other things while I eat. After I while I grow bored and pace the room.
"When can I leave?" I ask.
"When I am told that they are ready for you" Holly says in response.
I sigh and lay down on the bed, my eyes shutting slowly.
-
I wake up sometime later to someone shaking me, "we've got to get you dressed" she says.
I groan and sit up, rubbing my eyes. I walk groggily over to Holly, she holds out a beautiful dress, stuffing into my arms she pushes me into the bathroom.
"Quickly, we don't want to keep them waiting"
I stare at myself in the mirror, my brown hair is a birds best of knots, I cringe and the dirt crusting my face and along my arms and in my fingertips.
"Holly?"
"Mhm?" I hear her mumble from outside.
"Can I clean myself up" I say looking back to my appearance.
"That would be best"
I begin my washing my face then my arms and hands decided to take a shower later if I'll be allowed. I try my best to comb through what I could before pulling it up into a bun.
I peel off my dirty clothing and pile them into a heap on the floor, I turn to the dress and pull it on. It's a little loose but looks decent.
I wonder what I would be doing if I needed to wear a dress. I give up on guessing and step out to where Holly is patiently waiting.
"Okay let's go!" She grabs my hand pulling me out behind her. The sun has set now and is dark outside.
It amazes me how anyone would know how to manoeuvre around this place.
Out of breath we stop in front of another set of doors, two men stand in front. They glance at me and open the door.
Fear creeps up once again and I look to Holly. She motions for me to go in so I do.
My checks redden in embarrassment when everyone in the room turns to look. I back up a few steps, someone shoves me from behind I have no doubt that it was Holly who did.
I walk over to where a man points, a chair right up front facing everyone almost like a throne.
I stand by it and, a guy with a kind smile whispers, "sit, don't be nervous it'll be okay"
I nod and step up the step leading to the chair, I sit down and feel the power that this chair has. As everyone loosens a breath when I take a seat. Most smile others eye me curiously.
The door opens and my head snaps in that direction, then the beautiful man from before walks in, his scar prominent on his face as he walks in. His face emotionless and cold. He looks to no one except me, my veins run cold, I shrink away from his gaze but can't seem to look away from his intense stare.
I notice everyone, acknowledged him, and bow their heads. His eyes still glued to me he walks up the steps slowly. I feel my cheeks redden goosebumps begin on my arms.
I look to Holly who has a insanely wide smile set on her face. She regards us both with pride.
He stops in front of me, his face the same statue of emotion as before. But his eyes deceive him. They are broken just as mine are, cold and broken, we break eye contact for a second.
He surprises me when he gets down on one knee, taking my hand into his. They are cold to the touch not warm as someone's hand usually is.
He looks up once again, his eyes hooded and guarded, he brings my hand up to his mouth and presses his lips down.
After kissing the top of my hand he brings it down, looks at me with intensely.
"Welcome, my Luna. To Pack Nightshade."
