Chapter Six

You'll probably recognize some very similar qualities to the book in this story, because Goblet of Fire was my absolute favorite book! Also I know in the movies Beauxbatons was an all girl school and Durmstrang was all boys, but in the books it was mixed so that's how it is in here.

Chapter Six: Beauxbatons and Durmstrang

School was actually going better than usual. I hadn't paid one trip to Madame Pomfrey yet this year and it was already the second week in October. I haven't experienced any explosions either in Snape's class. Yes, my potions were never the exact color, but no one's perfect. Moody always gave me weird looks and acted weirdly around me, ever since the first day. It was almost as if he knew me. Maybe I was just imagining things. Imperio lessons were not fun and we weren't just doing them for the next few lessons, we were still doing them. He said he wasn't going to stop until someone was able to resist a tiny bit. So I prayed Dasha or someone else who was smart could figure out a way to do so.

It was terrible and I had given up trying to resist after the first week. Dasha went first and failed miserably. Moody had her dance in front of the entire class. She was humiliated that she knew the spells, but couldn't resist. Guess you were strictly book smart Dasha. Eowyn had no hope in ever resisting, you had to have great control over the mind. Eowyn barely stayed still in her sleep. I as well failed very badly and had to sing in front of the entire class with my terrible voice. This class was shared with the Ravenclaws, so I hoped one of them could do it before Halloween or I think I would just drop out now.

Draco ranted on every night about Moody, he hated him since the first day when he was turned into a ferret. I for one wish I was there to witness it. He was still acting as the cool jerk around the Slytherins. Draco now had even more girls falling over him than usual. I hated sitting down in the common room and having to listen to him brag or bash people. Sometimes he would even talk badly about me when I was sitting right near him. Yet was better than sitting in my dorm with Celina, Amelie, and Christina who talked about me as if I wasn't even in the room. At least Draco acknowledged me when he spoke badly of me. With Parkinson as their Queen, Pansy happened to be in my dorm sometimes which made me want to sleep on the stairs.

One night I caught Draco and Pansy snogging. I almost barfed, they saw me and both smirked. What was I supposed to be jealous or something? You could tell Pansy was quite proud of herself. Can't you just see he's using you Parkinson? It wasn't like he even liked her as a person. Ive actually heard him say how annoying she was the moment she's walked away from him. She skipped into our dorm that night just to tell her friends about it, yet the entire time she was talking she was looking at me. Wow someone needed to get over themself because I could actually careless.

Currently it was a Friday night and I should be asleep, yet I was having trouble as always. Eowyn was the only other person up. I could tell because she kept flipping from side to side. "Eowyn?" I whispered.

She shot up out of her bed with a scared look. "Who said that?" she asked nervously. I laughed and she looked at me as I sat up. Thankfully our beds were next to each other. I was on the far right against the wall. In order it went Amelie, Celina, Christina, Dasha, Eowyn, and then me. "Oh, just you." She breathed a sigh of relief.

"Can't sleep either?" I asked her and she shook her head. "Hey, I haven't heard much about Aidan lately." I brought up, I really hadn't. Since neither of us could sleep maybe talking would tire us out. All last year I heard about Aidan from Eowyn, but she hasn't talked about him in a few weeks.

"Oh yeah we broke up, well I broke up with him," she said.

"What why? You two were inseparable last year."

"I know but Aidan was Zane's best friend and Dasha is mine. Every time I brought him around he would bring Zane and then Dasha would be there and then it would get awkward. So then we would argue over it and he would just tell me to leave Dasha behind, but I would say to leave Zane behind. So we would keep fighting, so I just broke up with him. Besides, he never stopped talking anyway." She didn't take one breath. "But don't tell Dasha. I told her he broke up with me to make her feel better about Zane and her."

"I'm awake Eowyn..." Dasha said from her bed. I couldn't help but start laughing. Eowyn's face was wide eyed.

"Oh...um..."

"Eowyn I already knew you broke up with him. I was in the room." I couldn't stop laughing. Eowyn just didn't think sometimes. "You don't talk softly you know." Even Dasha let out a small laugh.

"What can I say?" Eowyn laughed. "Irish whisper."

"Can you all stop laughing?" a new voice added in and Celina sat up from her bed. "Some of us are trying to get some sleep so we can look presentable for the new school's arrival tomorrow. I suggest you do the same." I looked at Eowyn and Dasha trying to hold back my laughs and we all just put out heads down. I think I laughed myself to sleep that night.

I loved Saturdays. They meant no classes that morning and no classes the next day. You basically could do whatever you wanted to. I stood outside waiting for the arrival of the schools. It should be any minute now. Suddenly, that was when I saw a small ripple in the lake. A pole began to arise from the black lake and then it looked as though a small boat was appearing...next thing you know it was a ship. How that was possible...I don't know, but I guess that's magic for you. That ship held the flag of Durmstrang and I watched as though about twenty students stepped out from the ship. They were wearing fur capes and hats. I know it was chilly but I was fine in my long sleeve shirt. They were probably from the north. Dumbledore greeted them and their Headmaster Kakaroff while having them go inside. They all looked very serious and held stern looks upon their faces, even the girls. "It's KRUM!" someone yelled.

"No way!" another voice added and quickly a lot of conversation had been going around. I pushed through to the front and surely it was Viktor Krum. No way! I didn't know he was still in school, with a career like his I wonder what was the point? He was one of the best Quidditch players I've ever seen!

"Viktor Krum?" I said to no one in particular.

"Oh please," Draco said. Even though I didn't even know Draco was next to me, it was obvious that he was jealous of all the attention Krum was getting. All the Hogwart's girls turned their heads to Krum's direction. When he passed them, they would turn to each other and giggled. I would bet anything Krum probably wants to get back on that ship. "It's not that big of a deal," Draco said. I chose to ignore him.

Next to arrive was a carriage from the sky pulled by two Pegasus. Those horses were beautiful and huge, at least twice the size of a normal horse. The carriage door was opened and steps appeared from inside. Out leaped a girl in pale blue silk robes. I could already tell that they were going to be cold. She was then followed by about fifteen more students, a little less than Durmstrang. I guess this must be Beauxbatons. All of the girls were being a bit dramatic and shivering at the temperature, while the boys in the silk blue material at least acted as if it didn't bother them. After all the students stepped out, out stepped the largest woman I have even seen in my life. She was even a bit taller than Hagrid! Dumbledore greeted her as Madame Maxime. She responded with a thick French accent which I found hard to listen too. "Well let's all come along into the warmth!" Dumbledore announced as we all entered the Great Hall.

As we all took our seats at our tables, Beauxbatons sat with Ravenclaw while Durmstrang actually joined us at the Slytherin table. The students from Beauxbatons were still shivering even after being inside. At least the Durmstrang students actually looked pretty interested in the castle. They were glancing around the Great Hall while removing their fur cloaks. Draco glanced across the room at Potter just as Krum took the seat right next to him. Thought it wasn't that big of a deal Draco, I wanted to call to him. Draco was such a hypocrite sometimes. Now he was pretending like he and Krum were some long lost friends. Another guy from Durmstrang took the seat next to me. I looked up and smiled, he said hi in a German like accent and then Dumbledore began.

"Good evening!" Dumbledore began, looking around the now crowded room. The two new Headmasters have taken their seats at the Professor's table. "I hope you all find your stay pleasant and comfortable. At the end of this feast, the tournament is officially open and names can begin being put into the Goblet!" There was an eruption of cheer here with a lot of excitement. "Make yourselves at home." He clapped his hands and the Great Hall filled with food. A lot of it I didn't recognize for once. I hesitated for a moment.

"Oh how clever," Dasha said looking up and down the table. "Cultural food to make everyone feel welcomed." No wonder I didn't recognize half of this stuff.

Eowyn picked up a sausage like piece of something across from me and we both stared at it. That didn't look like a normal sausage. "Dat is Blutwurst," the Durmstrang guy next to me said.

"What is it?" I asked a bit scared.

"Sausage, vith pig blood," he added in his strong accent. Eowyn dropped it back while the few Durmstrang students around us laughed. I wonder if they found any of our foods disturbing. While we were eating, two new men came into the Great Hall and took their seats at the front. Dumbledore shoke their hands and greeted them both. They must have something to do with the tournament.

Just as everyone began to clear their plates, Dumbledore began another speech. "As the tournament is about to begin allow me to introduce Mr. Bartemius Crouch, head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation." There was a quick applause as a tall man with dark black hair and a very serious expression stood up and nodded. "And Mr. Ludo Bagman, head of the department of Magical Games and Sports." There was a loud applause for him and I suddenly recognized him from Quidditch Throughout the Ages. He used to be a beater on a professional Quidditch team.

"Mr. Crouch and Mr. Bagman will be joining the panel of judges amongst Professor Kakaroff, Madame Maxime, and I." Dumbledore then began to describe how there was going to be three different challenges throughout the year. He then got into the scary part, that if your name was called, you were bound to the games. If your name was called it was as if you signed a magical contract. He warned everyone that these would not be easy. I hoped everyone knew what they were getting themself into if they chose to sign up. "Now, off to bed."

Kakaroff came over to collect his students and bring them back to the ship. You could tell he fawned over Krum. He went right to him and began offering him wine and what not, while ignoring the rest of the students. I was tired from waiting around all day. I headed back to the common room and walked in to hear Malfoy talking to a large group of students. He was telling them about how he and Krum had a conversation, and how they were practically good friends. What a hypocrite.

The sudden noise awoke me quickly. "Happy birthday Carlie!" a voice yelled while waking me up. It was Eowyn and Dasha. I opened my eyes and looked around. It was Halloween, my birthday, and today was the day they would select the champions. I smiled at them as I sat up. There was already so much going on today.

"Thanks," I said happy while they dumped a bunch of candy on my bed. I laughed, all of my favorites. "You don't have to do this." I said. They always did so much on my birthday.

"But we want to," Dasha said.

"Yeah, we don't want your birthday to be totally overshadowed by the Champion Selections today!" Eowyn said with a laugh.

"Eowyn,"  Dasha muttered.

"It's fine, it's fine!" I said getting up from my bed. At least it was a Sunday so I didn't have any classes and could wear whatever I wanted. "I'll meet you guys downstairs at breakfast?" I noticed they were already dressed for the day and didn't want to keep them waiting. They both nodded and walked off downstairs. I loved not having to wear my robes, but it wasn't like I had a large wardrobe selection either. It was either Avelina and Elvira's hand-me downs or something I managed to buy on my own, which was rare. I slid into a pair of black jeans tucked into my boots with a long sleeve white shirt. Walking down the stairs, I already knew my birthday would be a lot less remembered this year because today was the day the Champions were selected.

I made sure to pass by the room which held the Goblet. I wanted to see if anyone was still entering their names, there were one or two people who must have decided at the last minute. I couldn't wait to see who was selected. It definitely was between Aaron and Cedric for Hogwarts. I made sure to pay attention to the two over the past few weeks and they did have all the qualities Dumbledore said were needed. Now it was just up to the Goblet.

The day passed really quickly, but it was fun nonetheless. I couldn't believe I was already fourteen. It was actually weird to say, because fourteen sounded quite old. Only three more years to go until I was seventeen. Jake of course remembered my birthday and greeted me with a big hug. Harry, Ron, and Hermione passed me on their way to the hospital wing. They also remembered and wished me a very happy birthday, but were in a rush. They were off to see Fred and George in the hospital who both decided to cross the age line with an aging potion. Due to Dumbledore's powerful line, it only gave them beards and wrinkles. The only other person who remembered was Draco, but he didn't technically wish me a happy birthday. He simply said, "Too bad your birthday is the day of the Champion selection, I guess everyone has just forgotten." I wanted to point out that by saying that it meant he remembered me, but I just smiled and walked away.

That night we were all seated in the Great Hall awaiting the selection. Everyone was on edge, Durmstrang continued sitting with us and they as well were anxious. The Great Hall was filled until there wasn't a person left who wasn't in the room. Dumbledore entered along with the Goblet of Fire. It was gleaming and bright as he moved it up to the front of the hall. I looked around to see the older students were very nervous. "It is time for the Champion selection!" Dumbledore announced to the crowd as we applauded.

Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch gathered by the Goblet, both looking ready to begin. Dumbledore lowered the candle lights all throughout the Great Hall to a minimum glow. The Goblet began glowing and turning into a bright blue color and suddenly a piece of parchment shot up and Dumbledore caught it with two fingers. "The Beauxbatons champion..." I watched as all the students dressed in blue robes eagerly leaned forward. "Is Fleur Delacore!"

A tall and pale blonde girl leaped up with a large smile on her face and walked up to shake all the judge's hands. The girls sitting around her all burst into tears. You could tell there was a large amount of jealousy going around at that school. Once again the Goblet spit out the next piece. "The Durmstrang champion...." Everyone around me from Durmstrang leaned forward a bit in anticipation. "Viktor Krum!" No surprise there.

Krum stood up proudly and all of his friends patted him on the back. Kakaroff looked extremely pleased and actually hugged Krum as he walked up.  Anyone could have predicted it would have been Krum. At least no one was crying from his school. He got a large amount of applause from almost all of the schools. Finally, the last piece of paper flew into the air and Dumbledore grabbed it. I immediately looked towards the Hufflepuff table at Cedric and Aaron, who would it, be? "The Hogwarts Champion...is Cedric Diggory!"

Cedric stood up proudly with a large smile. All of his friends were patting him on the back and high fiving him. Aaron didn't have too much of a reaction, he just clapped and went with the flow. I didn't know Cedric too well, hopefully he knew what he was getting himself into. "That's it!" Dumbledore said. "We now have our three champions!"

The Slytherin table was not too happy with a Hufflepuff Champion, but I didn't really care. Cedric was the best choice according to the Goblet, so that had to mean something right? The candle lights were about to get lighter when suddenly the Goblet lit up once more. A fourth piece of paper shot out of the Cup. What was this about...Dumbledore turned it grabbed it slowly. All the teachers were holding similar looks as Dumbledore held the paper.

"Harry Potter," I heard him mutter. No way. "HARRY POTTER!" He yelled. You have got to be kidding me.
