Chapter Three

Disclaimer: This scene you see where they meet up with Draco in the woods is very similar to the one in the book. I liked that better than the one in the movie, so I decided to go with that & used some of the exact dialogue. JK Rowling is a genius. End of Story.

Chapter Three: Dark Hour

"Can you believe that game?" I said pacing back and forth around Jake's tent. It was packed with a bunch of sixth years who were celebrating, and I mean literally celebrating. Gabe was the first one to rush in ranting about all the stupid mistakes the teams had made while he cracked open a bottle of fire whiskey. "That was totally awesome! I can't believe Ireland won! Eowyn must be out of her mind right now!" I continued.

"Carlie," Jake said interrupting me. "Not to be a buzz kill or anything, but it's been almost three hours since the game ended. Wasn't the plan to get you back to the tent before your family? So that you didn't get in trouble?"

"Who cares? That game was amazing, there was no way I was missing the celebration!" I responded. "That comeback was...I mean, I really thought Bulgaria had it! A hundred and seventy to a hundred and sixty? Talk about a match-" I stopped shortly at the sound of screaming. I looked at Jake curiously. Everyone around us in the tent as well seemed to notice. We all silenced which made the screams more obvious.

"Everyone stay still," Gabe said stepping forward and opening up the flap on the tent. From the small gap he had made I could see fire, and lots of it. "Everyone stay calm! Just get back to your port key!" Gabe called to us all. Of course, no one stayed calm. Everyone quickly fled, knocking over furniture and screaming in panic. I followed behind Jake and the second I stepped out of the tent, the sight was horrifying. Half the camp was burning down as people ran in all sorts of directions.

"What's going on?" I yelled as we ran through the crowd. I had no idea where we were going. This place was a maze.

"Just stay with me!" he yelled back. Grabbing onto his hand, we pushed through the crowds but they were getting tighter and tighter. "Carlie!" I heard him call as someone broke through our grip. People were pushing through us to get to safety which caused us to be pushed farther apart. No longer could I see his face. Panicking I circled around a few times, not being able to see anyone I knew.

Having no clue where I was, I rushed into one straight direction, hoping it would lead me to a safe place. In fact, it didn't. With my luck, I landed right in the center of the chaos. Here the flames burned higher and people screamed louder. What was most frightening was the scary parade of black cloaked wizards that wore a series of frightening masks and tall pointed black hats. They were the ones causing the whole problem. I watched as flames shot from their wands and as they manipulated other wizards.

Once I realized I wasn't moving, I began to run once more. Tripping and slightly falling against one of the burning tents. Scorching pain burnt against me yet I continued running as the small flame went out. I saw the entrance to the woods and ran as fast as I could towards it. At least here I could hide out until it looked safe. Once I got to the edge of the woods away from the flames, I slid down next to a tree.

Patting the side of arm it stung badly. The flame had burnt right through my coat and shirt revealing red and blistering skin. It wasn't large but it hurt very badly. I ripped off a piece of my already destroyed shirt and tied it around tightly. I could not afford to get an infection before school starts. Looking down, my jeans had ripped and my knee was scratched up as well. I sat there for a while and listened, wondering why those wizards were doing what they were doing. Maybe they were Bulgarian fans who were angry at the results? No, not possible. This would have been taking it too far. This seemed too planned.

"Hiding out from all the fun?" a voice asked. I screamed and leapt up faster than I thought possibly. Leaning against a tree a few feet away from me was Draco. Of course, he's always where I don't expect him to be. Once I realized it was only him I breathed a sigh of relief yet couldn't get rid of my annoyance.

"What are you doing in the woods, Malfoy?" I asked him taking a few steps forward.

"Admiring the view." He smirked and turned to take a look at the burning tent and series of scrambling people.

"You're sick." I scoffed and walked away to sit back down. He simply laughed a cold chuckle and walked closer to me.

"Got hurt I see, expected that from you. Doesn't look to bad though." I gave no response as I was in no mood to talk to him right now. "You do know your parents are going to kill you right? After this mess of course." I glanced over at him.

"I take it they know," I stated and he nodded in response.

"Oh they know, they made sure to send your brother Dane to check up on you. When he came back you could just see the anger on their faces. Can't wait to hear what they're going to do to you. You probably won't be going to Hogwarts-"

"Thank you Draco," I said sarcastically. "I know, I know. Doesn't matter though, because thanks to this mess now, I will keep my distance from my parents. I'll just stay with a friend for the next few days and then hop aboard the train. Bet they didn't see this coming."

"More like they saw it coming all along." He smirked at me. What did he mean by that, that they knew all along? I glanced up at him and rolled my eyes. He was trying to get me going. As I was about to respond with yet another sarcastic response I heard a crash and peered behind the tree to see that Ron, Hermione, and Harry were coming out way.

"Tripped over a tree root," Ron said and cringed while trying to stand up.

"Hard not to with feet that size," Malfoy said walking out from behind the tree. Great. Now they're going to see that I was here with him and they're going to start acting weird towards me again. Just as we became actual friends. Ron responded by swearing at him.

"Language Weasley. You don't want your friends here and Carlie to hear you speaking that way?" I mentally slapped him in my head. He just had to bring me into it. I stepped out into their view and smiled hoping they'd just simply return the smile. Yet instead they all gave me odd looks. Thanks Draco, thanks yet again.

"Are you okay, Ron?" I asked stepping farther away from Draco. Ron nodded at me and before we could talk Malfoy opened his big mouth again.

"Better get hurrying along," he announced to the three. "Don't want them to spot her now do you?" He motioned towards Hermione who gave him a cold look.

"What's that supposed to mean?" She responded strongly.

"Haven't you noticed, they're after muggles. Better get going quickly, they're coming this way." Draco said with a smug grin on his face. He loved seeing the anger in their eyes.

"Hermione's a witch," Harry sneered back taking a step forward. Oh god, not here and not now please. Weren't we all just trying to hide out in piece?

"If you say so, Potter," Draco responded coolly. "But if you think they wouldn't notice a mudblood from miles away think again."

"Watch your mouth Malfoy!" Ron yelled defending Hermione. Sadly, I was so used to hearing the word mudblood from my family and the Slytherin common room. It didn't even ring in my ears any more like it did to some people. Just then there was a loud bang that sounded like an explosion followed by a series of screams and I jumped close to the person next to me who just happened to be Draco, he looked over at me with a smug look and I stepped back walking over towards the other three.

"Scare easily don't they?" He coldly laughed but no one else found it funny. "Weasley did Dad tell you to hide out here while he goes and rescues all the muggles?" Why couldn't Draco just keep his thoughts to himself?

"Where are you parents Malfoy?" Harry shot back. "Out there wearing those masks I assume?" My eyebrows raised at that one. I technically wouldn't be too surprised if they were, because of the way Draco talked.

"Well, if they were I wouldn't be going around telling you know would I?" he responded.

"Come on, let's leave," Hermione said grabbing Ron's shoulder and turning him around.

"Carlie, you said you needed a place to stay for the next few days. My tent has more than enough room." He then gave me another smirk and I shook my head in response. "You'll change your mind eventually." He laughed. I turned with Harry as we followed Ron and Hermione deeper into the woods. Ron was going on about how he was sure that Draco's parents were out there. I honestly didn't know what to think. I looked for the best in people unfortunately, it was one of worst qualities. Growing up with my horrible family, everyone else seemed so much nicer. Sure the Malfoy's could be terrible but this? I didn't think so.

We continued walking through the forest and it got silent for a while. "Carlie," Hermione spoke up. "What exactly were you doing in the woods when we saw you with Malfoy?" I knew they'd say something like this.

"I was running and trying to find somewhere to hide, so I ran into the woods and he happened to be there," I said truthfully, yet a part of me knew they'd have doubts. I hated that. When you told someone the truth and knew they wouldn't believe you. Hermione just smiled and nodded at me, yet I could tell she had her doubts.

As we got to the edge of the woods, I spotted Eowyn and her family rushing up the hill not too far from us. Perfect. Hermione, Ron, and Harry had enough to deal with for tonight. I didn't want to bother them with asking to stay a few nights. "I'm staying with Eowyn for the next few nights and there she goes!" I said to them taking a few steps back. "I'll see you guys at school!" With that I took off after her and it didn't take too long to catch up.

"Carlie!" Eowyn said shocked once she saw me next to her. "What are you doing here? Where's your family? Oh, never mind! Come on we have to get out of here!" Even in a dangerous situation like this she still couldn't control her talking. With that we ran back to their portkey.
