Chapter Two Extra Credits
+
AFTER DAYS OF Jordan being fed up with Anna at the station constantly, he decided once and for all to sit her down and discuss school.

Even after her failed attempt to gather papers from Beacon Hills' High School a few nights ago, all she could continue to do was bug her older brother to try again – which only caused more problems for herself in turn. Because in the end, she had to do the one thing she didn't want to in order to sign up:

Talk to her father and tell him the truth.

The feeling she got when she first heard his voice – his confusion, his anger, his disappointment – may have been the worst part of it. Until Anna heard those dreaded words, "I'm coming down there as soon as possible."

"Dad, n-no! What? You have work, a-and I-"

"And you what, Annalise? You don't have school to attend to, considering you've gotten yourself kicked out. I can take a few days off to take care of my daughter," He spat over the phone.  She sighed, holding the phone up to her ear. This was going to be hell, and she knew it.

And so the next night, when Anna opened the door to her brother's small apartment to reveal her Dad, she could feel her stomach drop.

"Hi," She smiled lightly. Her father rushed through the door, not bothering to reciprocate the friendly gesture. He dropped his small bag in the entry way and stormed out into the living room.

"Jordan!" He yelled, until Anna corrected him. "He's at work. Nightshift," She spoke softly, fiddling with her hands. "Perfect! That's just wonderful. The one time he needs to be here, he's not," Her father scoffed.

"Are we going to talk?" Anna questioned him, looking down at her feet. "Talk? You want to talk to me now?" Her father lightly laughed, "Let's talk then."

"Let's talk about how you managed to waste thousands of dollars a year I dedicate to your education – how you managed to sneak out here, thinking your brother wouldn't inform me. How about the fact that you posed as the school when you called Jordan? He may not have recognized the voice in his message but I sure as hell did," Her father began. Anna's smile twitched, and she was frowning at him. "Dad, I-"

"Annalise, do not start the water works," He raised his voice, making her jump back. "You know how hard she worked to get you into this school, and you just throw it all away! And for what? To move to California? To be away from authority? To prove some half assed thought of point?" His screams echoed in her ear. "Dad, that's not what happened," She whispered, her voice low.

      "So what happened then, huh?"

"I-I can't really tell you. I don't know how," She looked down. Her father raised his eyebrows, "Well find a way!"

"I can't, alright! It's something Mom would tell you – she would explain it better than I ever could."

"Well she's not here!" Her father screamed, inching towards his daughter. She jumped back, tears racing down her face as she looked away, "I'm sorry."

"I am too," Her father backed away angrily. "I'm sorry that I raised such an ungrateful bitch like you – like your ghost of a mother."

Anna stayed silent, trying to mask her cries as her father headed out into his room for the night, "Be up in the morning. I'm taking you down to that school and signing you up – you can thank your brother for that." He scoffed, picking up the pace.

"Welcome, Mr. Parrish. I'm sure Beacon Hills' High School will be the perfect school for your daughter to transition too after her mishap at boarding school," The principal's assistant, Mrs.Martin smiled. Anna looked down, playing with her hands in her lap.

"How soon can she start?" He spoke loudly.

"Well, we can assist the two of you to a school tour today, and as soon as her transcripts transfer over we can make her an appropriate roster for classes the next week," She smiled at him. "I'm leaving tomorrow morning, and I need to know that my daughter is in school by the time I get home," He insisted. "Once she's enrolled, I'll be packing up my things and moving her."

Mrs.Martin smiled, "I can assure you, we will work as quickly and as diligently as possible to get Annalise enrolled."

"Now, would you like to learn about the classes opportunities here at BHHS?" She smiled at the two. Anna continued to be quiet, getting the feeling that her father was going to be handling everything from now on, whether he was there in person or back home in Virginia.

"No, thank you. In fact, I'm going to be leaving now. You can stay for the tour, Anna," His eyes drifted to his daughter, who immediately sat up in her seat. She gave a smile to Mrs. Martin, nodding her head. "Yeah, uh, sure. Of course."

"Then let's get to it, shall we?" She smiled to the younger girl.

After exchanging their goodbyes, Mrs. Martin assisted the girl down the halls, explaining every which classroom they passed by. "I'm going to offer you something that's new," She explained, "My daughter is a student here, and to get a better feel for the school year and what everything here includes, I'm going to have you be her shadow for a day."

Anna raised her eyebrows, "I'm sorry?" She asked, confused. "It just means that you can follow her around and see her roster as an example. Maybe even bond with her, make some friends," Mrs. Martin smiled warmly. "Her name is Lydia, and she's a wonderful girl, just as yourself."

Anna bit her lip nervously, "O-okay. Um, where should I go now then?"

"I'll take you to the classroom myself," Mrs. Martin smiled once again, to which Anna smiled back. She followed behind her silently, her stomach turning as she grew nervous to meet her new classmates.

Anna followed behind the principal's assistant silently, "Class, this is our new student, Anna Parrish." She chanted aloud as she walked in, bringing all the attention to the small girl. She smiled lightly, looking around nervously. "Mom?" The red haired girl that Anna had recognized from the other night spoke up. Mrs. Martin smiled at her.

"Lydia, sweetie!" She walked into the class fully, "Anna will be shadowing you today. Please do your best to make her feel welcome."

Lydia nodded, waving to the girl awkwardly. "Nice to meet you again," Anna nodded, making Lydia smile. "Yeah," Lydia looked away.

"So this is–"

"Math class," Lydia finished for her, taking her seat. "You can sit behind me, no one usually sits there." She gestured to the girl, who was currently standing over her. "Oh, yeah! Duh," Anna attempted to play off.

"What math were you taking at your old school?" Lydia spoke up, making conversations with the newbie.

Anna cleared her throat, watching the students around her take a seat. She furrowed her eyebrows, "None."

"None?" Lydia asked surprised, "3 years at least of a math class is required here. How in the hell did you take none?" She narrowed her eyes at the girl. "Oh, I um – I had double math as a freshmen, and as a sophomore I took another course, so I don't need to take any," Anna smiled, picking up a pen from off her desk. Lydia nodded, "Right," She turned herself around, looking at the girl fully now, "And where are you from again?"

"Virginia. Small town, small boarding school, you've probably never heard of it." Anna explained, to which Lydia smiled.

"I get it. Beacon Hills isn't exactly the most populated place in California," She agreed, making Anna smile at her. Lydia's eyes traveled to the door as she watched two of her friends pile into the room.

Lydia's smile dropped, and she rolled her eyes as the two took a seat. "Anna, this is Stiles and Malia," She spoke with no emotion in her voice. "Stiles and Malia, this is my shadow, Anna Parrish."

"Yeah, I kinda got that. Jordan works for my Dad," Stiles nodded. Malia scoffed, slouching down in her seat, " I hate math. It's pointless."

"It's school. School is important," Stiles breathed out, smiling at the girl, "and math is essential."

     "To what?"

"Knowing how much to tip at restaurants," Stiles held up his hands. Lydia turned around, scoffing. She rolled her eyes, "And other less important things like medicine, economics, engineering.."

     "Tipping,"Stiles nodded.

The teacher placed her books down, quieting the class before she spoke. "All right, volunteers to the board. Lydia, Diego, Malia."

"Um," Malia looked up awkwardly, "I didn't volunteer."

Lydia sighed, taking Anna up with her. "I can try, it's okay," Anna offered, making the teacher sigh as she seated herself.

Anna began her problem, but was taking a well longer time than Lydia, who seemed to be a pro at math. "X equals 25," Lydia whispered, smiling at the girl.

She reciprocated the action, "Thank you."

"Hey," Anna called, filling in some work with her chalk in hand, "You don't really like Malia much, do you?"

Lydia looked down, "It's not that. I just don't want her to take the place of someone, when she's already taken one."

     "I get it," Anna agreed.

Malia, after growling at him, had finally been convinced by Stiles and Lydia to take Anna to their lacrosse try outs. She wasn't allowed to sit in study hall after Lydia left school, nor was she allowed to leave herself. So, Malia let her out silently to the stands and sat next to a shorter, long black haired girl.

"Hi," The girl smiled brightly, making Anna feel a bit out of place. "I'm Kira."

"Anna," She smiled back. "I'm new here," She explained, making Kira laugh a bit. "Me too, sort of. I transferred in the middle of the year."

Anna smiled bigger, "Oh, nice. Easy to settle in?"

"Totally. You get used to things around her, and the people. Although sometimes they can be a bit off," Kira frowned. Her eyes darted to the field, where her sort of boyfriend, Scott McCall, and Stiles struggled to show off their good lacrosse skills.

"What's wrong with you?" Malia interrupted, abruptly, making Kira jump in her place. "Me?" The shorter girl asked. "Oh, nothing!"

"You reek of anxiety," Malia scoffed, making Anna furrow her eyebrows. "I don't smell anything," Anna smiled, making Kira return one. "It's distracting. What's going on?" Malia questioned, making Kira slouch down.

"This guy and I sort of had this thing happen. But it wasn't much of a thing. And I'm starting to think it never was anything at all," She explained.

"What do you want it to be?" Malia raised an eyebrow, pulling her knees up to get a good sight of the tryouts. Kira sighed quietly, "More."

Anna looked at the girl, feeling bad. She could tell that she was upset, but she wasn't sure of how to help. "Hey," Anna squinted her eyes, "What does that red stripe on the stick mean?"

"Red is alpha," Malia recalled, and Kira's eyes widened. "He's the captain! That what she means, captain," Kira laughed awkwardly, making Anna smile. "I like that, Alpha. I guess it makes sense, an alpha's nothing without his pack."

Kira scratched the back of her head, "Uh, yeah. Totally."

"Isn't the captain supposed to be one of the best players on the team? Or good?" Anna asked, tilting her head to the side as she watched him play. Kira laughed once again, looking down at her feet, "Yeah. I don't know what's going on with him today."

"Who is he?" Anna asked, her eyes never leaving the boy as he played. "Scott," Malia inquired.

Anna watched as he geared up, standing next to the Stilinski boy as they covered the net. A younger boy sped towards them, but Scott stopped him, tackling the boy before he could get to the boy.

"Yes!" Kira shot up, clapping her hands together as she cheered. A smile formed on her face, and Anna let out a small laugh. Scott turned around, smiling back at the girls, before heading back into the practice.

Anna's phone rang loudly, and she waved goodbye to the girls before heading off to the side of the bleachers.

"Hello?" Her voice echoed to the unknown caller.

The line stayed quiet, making her shrug her shoulders and then hang up. She felt another buzz, this time a text from the same number –

You can't hide from us forever, Witch.
