Chapter Five Magic's Best
+
ANNA WOKE UP crying, shaking as she looked around at her unknown surroundings. It wasn't the vault, and it wasn't anything like a home – it looked more like an office.
It was now day time, and she couldn't figure out what had happened since she'd been gone out. She leaned up, feeling the coldness of the metal table under her and she attempted to stand. The old, dirty clothes she had been wearing were on the floor, and she was dressed in a BHHS shirt, along with shorts that were too big on her small frame.
She hopped down, picking up her jeans and searching for her phone.
"You're awake."
Anna heard a sigh of relief, coming from someone she'd never met before. She backed up scarily, unsure of what was going on. "Who are you?" She snapped, backing into a corner.
"I assure you, I'm no danger. I'm just a veterinarian – my name is Deaton. I'm Scott's boss," He spoke softly, watching the girl move nervously. "It's been two days since the sickness broke out. You've been in a coma like state."
"Two days?" Anna asked in disbelief, "Oh my gosh, my brother –"
"Parrish, right? I'm well aware that Scott informed him, he knows." Deaton explained, offering her a small smile. "Now, Scott should be here shortly. He's been checking up on you, but I'm gonna need you to explain."
Her face formed a frown, and Anna could feel her heart beating vastly. She looked around, but there was no where to escape. Not only that – but she'd already exposed herself to Scott and there was no way to take back her promise.
"My mother always made me keep this a secret. She always told me I was in danger if I let anyone know – so excuse me if I was reluctant to tell anyone in the beginning."
"I'm a witch, just like my mother, and her mom before me."
+
Anna curled up into a ball, holding herself as she sat quietly on the cold table. Deaton, Scott and Stiles were talking – not as quietly as they thought – about the shocking discoveries about Anna.
Deaton squinted down at the bestiary, searching for words upon what Anna described. "You two, I'm just not sure – any witch I've heard of has been dead since the 1800s."
"We hide well," Anna interrupted, making her way into the room. "My mother sent me away to boarding school once I started developing powers. She told me to never let anyone know, because it could kill me."
"Except, my school was for the supernatural. People like me, wolves like Scott."
"That's how you knew?" Scott asked, looking up at her. She nodded slowly, looking down at her feet. "My family's different from other witches."
Deaton moved closer to the girl, "How so?"
She pressed her lips together, pulling her sleeve up to reveal a birthmark of a crescent. "When I left for school," She sighed, pulling her sleeve back down after they examined it. "My mom ran off. She never told us why. But I know she's alive still. I can't find her, and I've looked through everything."
"In her old dresser, her old things, her books – everything. My old Professor used to say I was developing quickly, that my powers were far stronger than any around me. It's a lot to control."
"Like you passing out?" Stiles interrupted. "Exactly."
"It's a curse of dark magic. I can't control it sometimes," She explained. Stiles gave her a look, "So what are you, Darth Vader?"
Scott stopped him, pulling his arm lightly. "We'll help you, I promise."
"It's not the magic I'm worried about, it's the witches coming after me."
+
"Are we really doing this?" Stiles panned out, leaning heavily over Scott's coffee table.
"We're doing it," Scott nodded, looking at Anna, "Tonight." Liam sighed heavily, shaking his head, "But isn't it kind of dangerous?"
"It's incredibly dangerous," Anna sighed, making Stiles interrupt, "And borderline idiotic." Liam's face dimmed, "Have you guys done something like this before?"
"Something dangerous? Or something idiotic?"
Kira moved closer to the table, placing down a camera, "I think it's a yes to both."
"You don't have to be part of it if you don't want to. That goes for you too, Anna. Deaton has put me under before without magic," He nodded at her, placing his hand over hers. "It's fine, really. I just don't want you – any of you to get hurt," She assured him. Kira's eyes averted towards them, as she pressed her lips together tightly. Her face fell into a frown as she tried to push the jealously away.
"I'm not scared!" Liam smiled, sounding like he was trying to convince himself of that very statement. "Then you're borderline idiotic."
"If we do this, we don't know what's coming for us. You know that, right?" Stiles crossed his arms. "How do we even know something's definitely coming?" Kira joined him. "Because the tape from Garrett's bag said visual confirmation required."
"He still needs to know if the target is really dead.," Scott raised his brows, moving his hands. "Especially if it's someone high on the list."
"So, if he wants visual confirmation," Anna began to trail off, thinking of their newest villain. "He's going to have to come get it himself."
+
Anna dragged Scott's body into the hospital, tears running down her face as she cried out. "Help, something's happened!"
A nurse ran out, grabbing a stretcher immediately and she began to call doctors, pulling him into the back room. Anna let out more tears, feeling her heartbeat faster as she got further away from her friend.
The plan was working, and Stiles was right on track. Anna wiped her tears away, turning from the nurse and texting him that it was going well.
She put him under using a spell she learned from an old professor, one that believed that people were never truly dead. Scott was linked to her, as well as someone close to him who's past. Technically, he's in the middle – with no visible signs of life.
Anna felt nervous, though. She never truly perfected the spell and she was scared that Scott's link wouldn't be strong enough to her. His past one was a fallen ex-girlfriend, Allison.
Before she could think, Melissa McCall was letting out a heart shattering wail as she faked the news of her son's death. It was working.
+
Anna followed silently as Melissa sniffled, wiping her tears away. They entered the morgue, upon looking at the rest of the pack around Scott's 'dead' body.
"I still hate this plan," She sighed, looking at her son from above. "I mean, this is pretty significantly terrifyingly. He looks dead."
"Give me your hand," Anna smiled lightly, making Melissa cower back. Stiles nodded to her, "It's okay."
Anna placed her hand over Scott's cold chest, feeling the faint beat. Melissa sighed with a smile.
She turned back, "How much time do we have?"
"Forty-five minutes," Kira spokeup, looking to her somewhat boyfriend's mother. "What happens after that?"
" I bring him back the same way," Anna smiled.
"No, I mean what happens if he stays like this longer than forty-five minutes?"
The pack stayed silent, looking down as Melissa grew anxious. "What is it?"
"We both die," Anna said coldly, making her looking down at Scott.
+
Anna's job was to sit close to Scott, along with his mother while everyone worked out the plan.
And while fighting wasn't her forte, neither was sitting around and panicking. Mrs. McCall was more than nervous, and when the lights of the hospital went out she grew worse.
Patients and nurses in the hospital ran through the halls, making the two exit the morgue to see what was happening.
"I'm guessing the power doesn't go out often in this hospital," Anna remarked, watching the crowds before them.
Melissa sighed, looking around before a roar made her turn. Anna felt her palms sweat, as Melissa spoke one last time before running, "Only when under attack by supernatural creatures."
"Well, you're still a witch, right?" Melissa asked in fear, watching the creatures apear before them.
Anna nodded, pulling Melissa behind her. She reached for a bottle of water, throwing it onto the berserker and tossing the bottle. "Incendia!"
The animal roared once again, this time in pain. Anna pushed Melissa away as the fire grew around it.
"We have three minute. Go save my son," Melissa stopped her, yelling over the madness. "Are you okay?" Anna asked, "Come with me!"
Melissa inched toward a fallen patient, "Just go. Hurry!"
+
Anna closed her eyes again, Stiles and Chris Argent watching her silently.
One Minute.
"Damn it!" She yelled, wiping the blood from underneath her nose. She blew out a breathe, looking at Scott's body frustrated. This is his life, their life on the line.
She closed her eyes once again, holding her hands over his body. She recited the spell, trying to calm herself as she spoke it.
Chris' watch beeped, and Anna felt herself panic when Scott was still unconscious.
She looked down at her wrists, feeling for a pulse on herself.
Scott leaned up quickly, gasping for air as Anna jumped in fear. She placed a hand onto his cheek, letting out a sigh of relief with a smile on her face. Scott hugged her tightly, pulling away with the same look on his face. "What happened? Did it work?"
Anna sighed, looking away as she heard Liam enter.
"It's Kira's mom. She's hurt."
