~Chapter 10~

You awoke slowly and drowsily, yawning loudly as you stretched your tired joints. Your heart was steady as you blinked slowly. As you sat up, weight shifted around you and a faint groan caused you to jump back.

Your hand scrambled to the table lamp at the side and pulled its chain as you watched the bed next to you. Tinted light bathed the room as another small groan met your ears. A mop of tangled brown hair rose to face you. Your relaxed when Frisk's brown eyes fell on you, his confused expression soon becoming a grin.

It widened as he wrapped his arms around your waist and squeezed you tightly. "Snowflake! You had me so worried! All of that and then you just went quiet. We were scared. Alphys even came to see you herself!"

"Alphys came to see me?" You asked.

"Yeah! She checked you out to make sure it wasn't anything mental. She's still here if you wanna talk to her! She was waiting."

You were still disoriented about waking with someone else but you nodded. You rubbed your eyes as Frisk lept from the bed and ran to the door. You stood and walked to the dresser, taking a brush and dragging it through your messy wig. Your makeup was still fine, thanks to monster magic cosmetics, your ears seemed crooked but Frisk clearly hadn't noticed. You adjusted them quickly as a quiet tap sounded at the door. "Um, S-Snowflake? It's me, Doctor A-Alphys. May I come in?"

"Yes Doctor." You said gently, standing and moving to the bed.

Alphys came in and offered a timid smile, closing the door behind her. She waddled over to you and stood before you, seemingly more nervous than usual. You waved for her to sit next to you and she took the invitation gratefully. "H-How are you feeling?" She asked.

"I'm feeling better now. Thank you. Though I'm unsure as to the cause of the pain I felt earlier." You informed her.

"W-Well that is part of my being here isn't it?" She asked in a teasing tone.

You laughed quietly and nodded. She shuffled through a folder if papers on her lap and drew up a few charts as she cleared her throat. Pointing to the chart, the outline of a heart laid beneath her finger.

"Lack of bodily d-damage and no signs of mental instability lead me to believe you were being harmed directly on the spiritual level." She explained. "This means that somehow, someone was able to, uh, fiddle with... your soul without summoning it in the physical p-plane."

"What? Why would anyone need my soul?" You asked.

Her face reddened and she twirled her thumbs around one another. "That's actually something I needed to discuss with you." She said. "Y-You see, I had to do a full cranial and body scan to ensure you were safe, but I found a few p-peculiar traits."

Your face paled but you smiled, nodding along dutifully. "Of course Doctor. Go ahead, I'm open to anything you have to share."

She smiled and presented another photo. It was an x-ray of you, displaying the energy streams through your body and running back to your soul. You reddened as you look at your soul, distinctly human. "O-Oh..." You stuttered.

She spared a glance, before diving into explanation. "As you can see, the energy f-flow throughout is steady and holding, which was my first w-worry. Based on the account Frisk have me, you were in a lot of p-pain. That would have caused a disturbance in your flow, b-but it seemed completely normal. That would insist of an accelerated healing property in your soul. S-Secondly I took notice of your soul itself."

She looked at me with worried eyes. "S-Snowflake, why are you p-pretending to be a monster?" She asked, not even attempting to soften the blow.

You paled and froze, mind going into overtime trying to find an excuse, but no matter what have a human and being a normal monster was impossible. You gulped as you looked at Alphys, unable to form any words. Sighing, she continued on. "Well, at least tell me this. Are you the other human Sans and Frisk are looking for?" She asked bluntly.

You frowned and released a breath. Hanging your head, you nodded. "Yes, I am." You dropped the sweet tone and looked at her.

"Then why are you hiding from them?! They're worried sick." She exclaimed.

"Please Alphys, don't tell them! I can't face them now. There's something I have to do first."

"Sn- I mean, (Y/N), they're got everyone we know looking for you. Do you understand the pain they're in?"

You choked back a tear and nodded. "I know. Doctor Gaster has visited to tell me so." You said quietly. "But I know what I'm doing. I'm going to fix my mistake."

"But why does that require that you disappear from their world?"

"They'll try to stop me! They wouldn't let me go on with it, but it's the only solution."

"I'm sorry (Y/N), but I can't bear to see them so s-sad. I'll have to tell them if you don't."

"Alphys I can't!" You begged. "Please just wait."

Alphys stood abruptly and collected her papers. Marching to the door, she was filled with determination as she turned the knob. You scrambled to your feet and grabbed her wrist, trying to hold her back. The door was already opening however, and you would soon be pulled off balance.

Closing your eyes, you pulled with all your might. "Alphys pl-"

You fell back with Alphys falling next to you. The door swung shut tightly with a bang and you jumped up. Thick vines crossed the door frame, barring us in. You looked up and watched as Flowey's familiar face descended before you.

Alphys groaned as she opened her eyes, quickly setting her gaze on his golden face. "F-Flowey?! You were helping her?"

He laughed gently. "Sorry Doc, but this is for your own good." He hummed.

A vine wrapped tightly around her mouth, muffling her cry. Heavy footsteps pounded down the hall and you began to panic. "Flowey what are you doing?!" You asked.

All around the vine that silenced Alphys, small blue blooms sprouted, fine dust wafting from the petal and dissolving against Alphys face. She relaxed, eyes soon closing as she went slack. "Don't worry! I just dosed her with Magical Forget-Me-Not. She won't remember this, only giving you the clean bill of health." He smiled.

The vines disappeared from the door as a pounding knock blew it open. The familiar blue-finned captain stood in the doorway, worry in her face. "What happened?! We heard a giant thud!" She exclaimed.

Undyne's gaze drew downward at you holding Alphys up against you. Traces of Flowey had all disappeared, leaving just you. You scrambled for an excuse as Undyne knelt next to you. "I'm so sorry Undyne! She was leaving and she tripped and hit her head and now she's knocked out!" You sputtered.

Undyne visibly relaxed. "Oh jeez, she's such a clutz." She muttered. "God Alphie, you had me worried."

A faint blush covered Undyne's cheeks as she hoisted Alphys up in her arms. You stood shakily and brushed off your clothing. Undyne offered you a nod and a grin. "Thanks for trying to help her, I appreciate it."

"O-Oh! You're welcome." You bowed for effect. You sweet persona was back.

Undyne jogged from the room and Frisk ran in, hugging you. "Snowflake! What'd she say?" He asked.

"Oh! It's just a reaction." You lied. "Changing to such a drastically different environment confused my body, and it's almost as sensitive as a cat's tongue so..."

"Oh, I get it!" Frisk nodded. "Your body just has a weird way of adjusting."

You nodded and smiled. "Yeah, it has to do with a lot of specified genetic quirks I have. Alongside my independence from a young age, I guess I just became accustom to that specific situation."

G!Sans chuckled bitterly and you shot him a sour look. However, twisted guilt kept you from breaking even in the malice of his stare. Your gaze detached and fell to the ground. He stiffened and his cocky grin fell, confusion in his features. Shaking your head, you turned to the others and smiled weakly. "Well, I'm sorry for worrying you all. You shouldn't have stayed on my behalf."

"Nonsense. We couldn't leave in good conscious while you were suffering." G!Paps insisted.

Your smile grew, you eyes softening. "Thank you. You're all too kind." You bowed. "Let me show you out."

Mettaton turned to you and laughed. "You must be joking darling?! It's too late to send them on there way."

"What?"

He faced your friends and outstretched his arms. "How about you all stay the night! I have several extra rooms just past Snowflake's own. I welcome you to stay until morning."

"Really!" Frisk beamed.

"Like a sleepover!" Kid added.

G!Paps glanced at his watch and nodded, smiling at Mettaton. "That seems nice. It is an awfully late hour. I think I'll accept."

"I'm in!" Kid agreed.

"Me too!" Frisk added. "What about you Sans?"

You flushed and kept your eyes downward, hands knit into one another.

Please say no. Please say no. Please say no...

"Sure. Saves me the trouble of going back "

You twisted your fingers at the knuckle to avoid screaming. "Well, I guess I'll have some neighbors for the night." You chirped, forcing a grin. "I'll head to bed for the night."

You turned and began to ascend the staircase. Frisk tried to reach up to you, but Sans rested a hand on his head. "Let her rest kiddo. She's probably worn out from the whole thing."

Their voices were jumbled together by the time you reached the top of the stairs. Guilt writhed in your chest like a parasite. The recent fill of confidence you'd retrieved dissipated in mere seconds. As you closed your door behind you, you were greeted by Flowey's familiar expression of boredom.

"So..." He mused. "How'd that go?"

You glared at him, but released a heavy sigh. "Not good. Sans was there. I'm not sure where he came from, but all my defenses came down in just seconds."

"Seriously?! You can't let him get to you like that!" He scoffed.

"I know Flowey! You don't understand how hard it is, or at least you don't remember." You took a deep breath and composed your expression. "It's been a long time since you've been Asriel, but you have to understand that for me this is pretty new. A long time ago I removed myself from their lives. Doing it again won't be any easier."

You stood and sat at your vanity, gazing at your sad-looking reflection. You milled through your thoughts when a rhythmic tap caused you to surface again. "Come in." You cooed.

Your eyes turned to the doorway as it creaked open slowly. They tapped again, drawing your gaze in their direction. You moved slowly, quickly flushing as shock rocketed you to your feet. He chuckled, leaning against the door frame as he looked at you. "Heh, didn't know you were such a Scaredy Cat." He teased.

Red took over your face as you faced him. "Gaster!Sans! What are you doing here?" You asked, the surprise in your tone being the only genuine aspect of you.

"You were there weren't you? I'm staying the night." G!Sans said cooly. "Did you forget already?"

"I know that! I mean why are you here, as in coming to my room." You asked.

He shrugged, meeting your gaze much more easily than you could meet his. "I thought I'd checked up on you." He admitted. "You seemed troubled downstairs."

Your face fell and you folded your hands in front of you. The expression on your face read sarcastic pity as you brushed off your skirt and sat on the bed. "Why should I matter to you?" You said bitterly. "I thought you hated me."

"In a way, you're right." He confessed. Your heart sank, but before you could speak again, he cut in. "But, I also know that's not because of you. (Y/N) sent you my way thinking you could replace her to some degree. Truth be told, you'll never come close to taking her place. But I can't hate you just because of that. I realized the error of my ways, and wanted to apologize. Frisk told me how you were willing to help find her. I appreciated it."

You blushed, breaking off your eyes and looked at the carpeted floor. "Oh, I guess that's alright."

He smirked, offering an outstretched hand. Your heart soared, both from his close proximity and his change of heart. Maybe your plan would work better than you'd hoped. You lifted your hand and he took it. Lowering his head, he brushed the phantom of lips against yours knuckles. Blushing, you panicked and bowed your head, standing abruptly.

"I'm sorry Gaster!Sans but I'm really quite tired! You should get some rest as well. Make sure to tuck in Frisk first. Have a very goodnight. Bye!"

You shoved him from the room and closed the door behind, locking it. Your heated face seemed to radiate embarrassment as you pressed your cold palms against your cheeks.

"Oh god... what do you do to me?!" You whined childishly.
