~Chapter 12~

The walk back to the Skelebro household felt long and awkward, your eyes firmly cast to the ground as Frisk pulled you on forward. His eyes were still on you. It was hard not to shudder under his assuming gaze, but you kept your cool and kept your mask of a smile on your face. And finally after what seemed like forever you approached the familiar house of the skeleton brothers.

Frisk seemed even more excited as you approached, pulling you into a run as he sprinted to the door. "Papyrus!" He yelled, door swinging wide open. You grabbed it instinctively so it wouldn't damage the wall, and sighed as Frisk dropped your hand in order to inform G!Paps of the additional guest. G!Sans brushed past you and closed the door, finally pulling his eyes off you and instead looking down at an all too familiar cellphone.

You folded your hands in front of you and stood awkwardly by the table, observing the world around you. The clock was still in 24 time. Papyrus door was still plastered with signs and warnings. The couch was still old and worn into comfort. Everything seemed so familiar, so being here as a new person was more difficult than you'd thought.

You recognized every small detail and held your memories here close to your heart. Now you were a stranger all over again. After all, Snowflake had only ever glanced the place when she passed out. "Are you gonna stand there like a frightened child or are you gonna sit?" A voice interrupted, making you jump slightly.

G!Sans fixed a gaze on you with annoyance evident in his features. "Oh..." You hummed, walking hurriedly to the couch.

You plopped down on the familiar seat and felt relief. You almost rocked back to prop your feet up, but remained still with your back straight and eyes transfixed on your knotted fingers. His eyes were back on you again and you couldn't help but growl. "Why do you keep looking at me?" You asked, trying not to sound bitter.

"What? I thought it was a free world." He retorted.

"That doesn't answer my question." You snapped. "I'm not an idiot you know. Why do you keep staring at me?"

He flushed lightly, but you weren't sure if it was because he was caught or if he was frustrated. "I'm not staring at you." He said in an indifferent tone.

"I just saw you!"

"That wasn't staring. I was analyzing your reactions. Your expressions too."

"Analyzing?" You asked. "Why? I thought you didn't like me. Because I'm supposed to replace her."

"You will never replace her!" He snapped, quickly calming himself. Sighing, he rested his chin in his hand and closed his eyes. "You just.... remind me of her... sometimes."

"R-Remind you?! O-Of her?!" You stuttered.

You wanted him to move on, but not like this. Your face became stoney as you looked at him firmly and scoffed. "I am nothing like (Y/N)."

He was slightly taken aback, raising a brow. "Oh really? How so? You're obsessed with Frisk's health. Snap at me the same way she did when I use nicknames and you're as foolishly selfless as she is."

"I want to protect Frisk because she asked me to." You informed. "She asked me to take care of those she held close while she was here. I snap at you because I don't like nicknames and I act selflessly because that's what I grew believing in."

"You really expect me to believe those half-assed answers?" He asked.

"Hey guys!" Frisk interrupted, unaware of the current conversation. "Come get your plates so we can eat."

You smiled gingerly at Frisk and stood, following him. As you passed G!Sans you leaned in his direction, whispering harshly, "We'll finish this later."

As you followed Frisk into the kitchen, the meal went normally. Frisk and G!Paps carried most of the conversation, but you chipped in enough to seem interested.

You pushed a piece of pasta around your plate in a bored manner, taking the moment of solitary to its fullest. Yet you kept finding your gaze drawn upwards, drifting naturally to your skeleton counterpart. As you suspected, his eyes didn't leave you. Every time your gaze met you found your face deepening in red hue.

It was almost as if he never looked away. You definitely felt his pin like gaze 'analysing' you. Whether you were frustrated or flattered was beyond you. You glanced at him and found his cold sockets transfixed on your face. Flushing red, you stood as you looked at him. "Take a picture why don't ya?! It'll last longer!" You snapped.

"Easy there Kitten." He mused cockily. "Wouldn't want to mess up that pretty hair of your."

"My name is not Kitten! Or Angel. Or Baby. Or Doll face. Or any other nickname you have stored up for me!" You growled. He seemed surprised, but you continued on. "Two syllables. Snow-Flake. One would think a fucking scientist could figure that out!"

"You sound just like her..." He said in awe.

You slammed a fist against the table, temper past what you could handle. A lot of emotion was creating a toxic mixture in your heart, and it was only time before it boiled over.

"Are you really that stupid?!" You yelled, fist trembling.

"Hey! Calm down kitty before you do something you regret!" He warned.

"Are you fucking serious right now?! You really are stupid aren't you!"

"What the hell are you talking about?!" He asked.

"Uh, guys? Please don-" Frisk tried desperately to quell your rage but failed miserably. Your stood to your complete height and looked down at the skeleton, tail flicking to and fro violently.

"Listen here bone bag. I am NOT (Y/N)! You keep telling me I'm like her. I talk like her. I act like her. I'm. Not. Her. The girl you're looking for died over a month ago, and all you can think about is resurrecting what you two have left of a relationship. We met in those woods and she wanted to disappear from here. She's afraid of living her life burdening those she cared about with her own troubles."

"What are you talking about?!" He growled.

"I'm talking about your precious (Y/N) you dumbass!" You snarled. "I promised to help you, but it's about time I told you the honest to God truth. Your girlfriend is dead. She's not coming back. In fact, the only damned reason I'm here is because she put me here. (Y/N) just wanted you to be happy without her but you're defiling her only wish because you're too stubborn to admit that you can in fact live without her!"

You jabbed a thumb at yourself, meeting his gaze completely as you spoke, now yelling. "The only goddamn reason I'm here is so that I can make sure her friends and happy. I need to protect Frisk so here I stand. I'm supposed to help you cope without her and yet I keep being pulled into this cycle. You're not going to find her! Not ever! That girl is gone. (Y/N). Is. Dead."

Silence overtook the room. His eyes were mixed in rage and awe. You realized you mistake and shrunk back, curling your arms against your chest. You looked at Frisk and he sniffled, lip trembling as he tried not to cry. Yet still fat tears rolled down his cheeks. You grew pale and turned quickly while they were still stunned. "I-I have to go." You muttered briefly.

You took your coat and wrapped it tightly around yourself. You darted to the door, flinging it open and diving into the icy front. Your legs were numb, but you knew you were moving fast. But your couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you. A curtain of frost descended over you, almost completely blinding you.

I fucked up.

You stumbled through the veil, freezing when you heard Frisk's faint calls. "Wait! Snowflake don't go!" He begged.

I fucked up.

You could see the vague shape of his outline but you stepped away. "Just go back Frisk!" You ordered. "Leave me be."

"You can't stay out here! You'll get sick!" He retorted.

"Frisk I'll be fine. Go home." You growled, whipping your head in his direction.

I fucked up.

"(Y/N) Please!"

"Frisk just go!"

"I'm not leaving without you! We need to talk about this!"

"I said leave me alone!" You yelled, your eyes squeezed shut as you threw your fists downward.

A plume of golden magic rolled off you, clearing the snow and launching Frisk into the treeline. Your heart skipped a beat as time seemed to slow. His body flew directly into a tree, almost immediately growing limp as he fell to the ground.

"Frisk!" You cried, running to his side.

You cradled him in your arms as you looked at him in a frenzy. Crimson trickled down his forehead and you gasped, dabbing at the wet with a shaky hand.

"Hang in there Frisk!" You begged. "I'm going to heal you."

He didn't respond and you felt yourself choke on your sobs. He stopped responding and you reacted immediately. Your surroundings flicked between black and normal, your soul tumbling from your chest and into your shaking palm. Golden mist encased it, the excess HP having built up in the time you weren't using it. Frisk soul levitated over his chest, the small bar of HP dangerously low.

You sucked in a short breath and released your soul, watching as it swirled around his in a gentle waltz-like movement. "Please just hold on."

I watched numbly as she evacuated. Frisk tried to withhold it, but silent tears raced down his cheeks. I was too shocked to move, watching helplessly as he broke from his chance and ran after her. In my chest a poisonous mixture of emotion swelled, rage and loss pumping through my veins in a twisted sense of determination.

Papyrus looked at me in concern as he stood. "Sans don't mind her. We both know (Y/N) is just fine. Snowflake was just-"

"I knew it." I growled. My fist curled at my sides as I stood from my chair and grabbed (Y/N)'s phone from my pocket. The screen glowed, a singular notification on the screen. It was a text from her Sans. I walked away briskly, disappearing from the house as I looked down at the screen.

Sans: We're almost ready on this end. About a week and we'll be done. How's your end going?

(Y/N): The machine is already finished, ready when you are. I found a lead on (Y/N) though.

Sans: What?! What is it?

(Y/N): It's that Snowflake chick. She just had a blowup about (Y/N) just now then stormed out. She knows more than she's told me. I'm going to go investigate now.

Sans: Got it. Tell me if you find anything.

(Y/N): Got it. Later.

Sans: Bye

I looked up at my new location and swiveled my head from right to left. A pristine vanity was pressed against the wall opposite to a large made bed. On top of a dresser sat a bouquet of echo flowers, a single buttercup among the group. The cosmetics were lined neatly on the vanity and not much was left out on the open. Definitely Snowflake's room.

Kneeling down, I looked beneath the vanity to see if anything was taped to the bottom of the drawer, but it was as clean as the top side. I shuffled through her drawers and looked around every piece of furniture in the room, hoping with every fiber of my being that there was something you find. "Dammit!" I hissed, having gone through most of the room already.

I lifted my gaze and looked to the closet door. "Please be a clue..." I muttered.

Approaching the door, I gripped the doorknob as shuffling sounded behind me. Turning quickly, I looked for a suspect, but found no one. I twisted the knob of the door, surprised by its resistance to opening.

"What the hell?"

I took it in both hands and pried at it again. The door stayed stubbornly shut and hope shot through me.

There had to be something there if she's keeping it locked!

Wiggling it aggressively, the knob wouldn't budge even the slightest. Thinking for a moment, I decided the best was to just knock it down. After all, if I found evidence then Snowflake would have no right to yell at me anyway.

Charging the door, I shoved my shoulder into the wood. As if something were on the other side to stop me, it didn't give any. "What is this door made of?!" I blurt.

Bracing my shoulder, I tried again. Nothing. Try after try and the door still stood firm. I growled to myself as I glared at it. "What the fuck?!"

From outside the room, a door swung shut loudly. I froze, turning towards the door to hear better. The squeak of a wheel filled the air then the familiar, boisterous tone of Mettaton rang through the halls. "Snowflake dear! Where are you?" He bellowed.

"Fuck!" I cursed, glancing at the closet.

"I'm coming upstairs! If you're asleep be ready to see an angel awaken you!"

"Shit!"

I glanced around and noticed the havoc I caused. My eyes illuminated in gold hue and everything floated gently back to place. The sound of Mettaton's wheel grew closer and closer, like a bad horror movie. He knocked loudly on the door and the door began to open.

Glaring towards the door, I disappeared and came back in my room. Growling to myself, my body launched to the bed. My hands clutched in tight fist.

"Watch your back Kitty Cat. I'm gonna get in there, and I'm gonna find (Y/N). Bet your life on it."
