"I can't believe you're leaving us," My mother cooed. It was indeed an emotional day. I was leaving for college, but I was going to Greece for a year. I won't know anybody, won't know the language, nor their culture and how things function around there.
I would officially be alone.
"Mom, I promise I'll call, write, and Skype. Dad you too. Oh and tell Savion I said stay out of my room please." I smiled. They returned smiles, kisses, and hugs. I could feel my mother's pain. She was finally letting go of her baby. Her only little girl.
"We love you Sévon," My dad grinned as well as my mom.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the flight for Athens, Greece is now boarding at gate 56." A woman spoke over the loud intercom. Sévon hugged her parents one last time.
"I Love you guys more. I'll be back in no time,"Sévon assured. She picked up her luggage and gave once last glance at her parents before walking towards her gate.
Once she made it, she took a deep breath taking the time to get herself together.
She's about to start her life without her parents. She had to manage her own money and make her own friends. She couldn't have Kinnidi and Sarah. Kinnidi is studying abroad in Brazil and Sarah went straight to Princeton University.
Sévon walked onto the plane and noticed it was only 10 people on board. Small but at least she knows she isn't the only one who seems nervous, telling by how everyone was spaced out.
Sévon put up her luggage and took her seat next to a window. She retrieved her phone and plugged in her headphones. She started playing her playlist when she looked out the window as the plane started to take off.
NIKE
"Momma sas agapá Nike(Momma loves you Nike)," My mother caressed my face. She had tears in her eyes but I knew she didn't want me to see her crying.
"S 'agapó pára polý mamá. Tha sas grápso kathimeriná gia to pós eínai ta prágmata.(I love you too mommy. I'll write you everyday about how things are.)" I smiled hugging her. She had such a tight grasp onto me. She didn't want to let her baby girl go.
My dad was able to carefully pry my mom off of me. She apologized but I saw nothing wrong with it. "I will miss you but I know you will do amazing things while you're away to make us even more grateful to be your parents. We will always be with you and so will your ancestors for protection." My father said. Even though my father is African American he has grown accustomed to my mother's religion and beliefs along with the Greek culture.
"I love you dad,"
"I love you more my princess,"
He kissed my temple and hugged me tightly. When he pulled back a pair of arms wrapped around my torso. I looked down to see my younger brother poking his lip. "Don't go Nike," He said with his thick Greek accent coming through.
"I have to papa, I'll be back though I promise." I smiled at him.
"You Promise Promise?"
"I promise Promise,"
I bent down and he hugged me even tighter.
"Cherry bombs and Apple pies, sweet kisses with small goodbyes." Me and Dimitri said in unison. I don't know where we got this from but we love saying it. It kept him calm. I don't want him thinking I'm leaving forever.
I stood up as I heard the city bus pull up. It was going to the other side of Athen's where the college was which was about thirty minutes.

Nike arrived at the place of education she would soon call home. All she wanted to do was get her degree and let her art grab a hold of what the future held for her. She got off the bus looking around her surroundings as Erykah Badu played in her ear. She didn't have a phone but she had a portable CD player she kept in her backpack. She has never been on this side of town and it was amazing.
She proceeded to enter the building. She took out a folded piece of paper in her pocket. It was a map of the school but on the back was the map of the girl's dormitory building. In the far corner it read, "Second-floor room 206." She looked back up in search of the building but was bumped the minute she did making her paper fall out of her hand. She quickly snatched her headphones off.
"Can you wat- Oh," It was a girl... and she is fucking beautiful. She had a masculine face that was mixed with some feminine features. Dreads were tied in a low ponytail and pearly white teeth to compliment her smooth skin. She wore a gray sweater looking thingy over a white shirt with red overalls that hung. It's hot. Nike would not find herself wearing that at this time of year especially in Greece.
"I-I'm Sorry," Nike stuttered picking up her paper. The girl smiled at her instantly making her feel jitters. "It's alright, I wasn't the one paying attention. By chance, do you know where the girl's dormitory is?" She asked looking at a piece of paper in her hands. She had a map too.
"That's what I'm looking for," Nike chuckled, looking around at other students struggling to get around campus. Nike glanced back at the girl to see her staring at her. "Is there something wrong with me?" She gasped, "Do I have something on my face?" Nike frantically rubbed on her face checking for anything that may not feel right.
"No," The girl chuckled. "Nothing is wrong with your face... In fact, you are beautiful." She said softly. Nike blushed. She didn't like the feeling she was getting from this girl. She's sticking to the plan of getting her education and she has no time for girls or relationships.
"What's your room number?" Nike asked. The girl handed Nike her paper and in the far corner it read "Second-floor room 206,"
Nike's face dropped. She had to be roommates with this person. Someone that clearly is going to distract her with her looks and flirtatious ways. "You're my roommate..." Nike said in disbelief.
The girl furrowed her eyebrows, "If it's a problem, I'll talk to the head of the Dorms and have myself removed." She said with slight attitude. "No.. I'm sorry. It's just-"
"Don't sweat it. You're from here aren't you?" The girl asked starting to walk off. Nike caught up with her and they walked together. "Yea, the other side of Athens." Nike responded.
The girl nodded her head, "I can tell, You're accent is pretty... seducing." She said. Nike blushed yet again. "Umm thanks.." Nike said nervously. "Where are you from?"
"America," She replied. Nike's eyes widened. "Really?" Nike smiled.
"Mhmm," the girl hummed in agreement. Nike always had a dream of going to America. She wanted to take her family and give them a better life. From living where she did, she didn't want to still be in Greece. She thought she was giving up her hopes of ever living a better life.
"I always wanted to go to America.." Nike said to herself. "How come?" The girl asked. Nike looked at her and was getting ready to speak but she didn't need her knowing her business.
"What's your name?" Nike asked. The girl looked at her and back in front of her because she didn't want to trip over the stairs they were about to go up. "Sévon, and yours?"
"Nike,"
"Well nice to meet you," she smiled.
