Chapter 1: New Faces
Thomas POV
Jessica still is arguing with me. At this point, it seems like she isn't going to stay much longer with me. After finding out that the thing that I was scared of was myself I've lost all confidence and Jessica redeems all that. But I've been too caught up in research to even care about her.
Carson passed away a couple years ago and that didn't help me at all. Jess and I moved to Nondal and Albany and Bravo disappeared. Or was that the dream. I know that now I can enter my dreams and do things but that isn't good for my health at all.
I don't remember myself. It's like my heart is being ripped out second by second, minute by minute. But I should get going, otherwise, I'll have Jessica to deal with. Nondal is a nice place but it seems dodgy. I live on the outskirts so it isn't really a good life at all. But I'm Reaper so there's no stopping me...
"Please Jessica, don't leave me," I said to her.
"I'm sorry Thomas, but I'm looking for somebody who gets me. Somebody who faces his fears head on, instead of running away all the time. I can't do this anymore. I'm sorry" she replied
"I can change Jess." I cried.
"I'm sorry, Thomas. I just don't feel this relationship anymore."
She left me just before I could even get to work. I loved her more than anything but I let work get in the way. If only Carson or Bravo or even Al could help me right now. But they are all gone. I don't care if Al or Bravo are my children in this reality or my friends in my dreamscape but I hate this. Being Reaper....it's hard. I sat down. I was gutted. Now I know how fish feel. Ha...always good for a laugh aren't I. Yeah.....funny.
BANG! CRASH! Harriet blazed through the doors with absolutely no respect for my current state but I forgive her...she didn't know.
I met Harriet in Nondal a few years ago and she let me know about ShadowMaster and what he is doing with me or something. She's nice but kinda boring.
"Goodness, Harriet! Is everything okay?" I asked her.
"I'm afraid not." She said out of breath.
"What is it? Don't keep me in suspense..." I asked her wondering if it was what I feared.
"It's...ShadowMaster...I saw one of his men remove the souls out of a bunch of people!" She screamed at me.
"Defenseless people?" I asked
"Well they didn't have bloody weapons did they!" she shouted at me.
"Sorry, I've just had a rough day," I told her with a clear frown on my face. This day only could get worse...
"Jess? Did she...."
"Yeah....she...ended it......I'm sorry Harriet"
"No problem Thomas. I have your death pulses and gear downstairs ready for you." She said, "anything else I can do to help?"
"You can start by telling me where this happened," I asked her.
"I was..." she fanned herself and began to wheeze, I told her to sit down and explain.
"Focus Harriet, focus! Where did it happen?" I asked her. This constant questioning must've stressed her but I had to ask.
"Ruby Chasm! That's right - Ruby Chasm!" She started, "his men are in a ruby chasm, Thomas."
"But....that's not a real place...that's not..."
"This is the dreamscape isn't it Harriet?" I asked her.
"Yes, yes it is Thomas." She responded with a weird looking smile.
The dreamscape looked different. The sky's colour changed to a midnight blue colour and wisps flew around. This is not what I expected. If Harriet could take me here doesn't that mean that she....she absorbed the death shard.
"Harriet. This is so dangerous, why would you absorb it. You're crazy, you mad woman!" I shouted at her.
"You idiot. Stop driving everyone out of your life. I did this for you and you only!" She screamed back.
"Harriet...we need to stop this." I calmed down after I had said this. And she calmed down a bit too.
A voice pounded and I was knocked out of the dreamscape. It said: "Reaper....REMEMBER WHAT I SAID TO YOU. I AM THE ONE IN CHARGE OF YOU. THE SHADOWMASTER. ME!"
The one thing I feared...it came for me.
Harriet dragged me out of reality and back into the dreamscape. She still cares about me even when I treated her like rubbish.
"Not this time Thomas. Not this time. I'm not losing anyone else. Carson was the last and it's not your time!" Harriet screamed.
"Ha-...Harriet?"
"Thank God. You're alright..." she spoke softly to me like our argument didn't happen. I wish it didn't.
"Thomas. We have to go. We need to head to Ruby Chasm and recover." She said.
"But..." I started.
"You're back in the dreamscape and you haven't killed yourself, Thomas. Al and Bravo are still alive but...I don't know where they are." Harriet interrupted.
"Ruby Chasm is destroyed though..."I stated. That was my fault anyways... I knew I shouldn't have gone there.
"It's been fixed up by Riflemen apparently." She answered.
"Ok let's gear up and go," Harriet said
"Let's go..." I said
Looks like Reaper is back in business and ShadowMaster isn't holding back on me. It would be at a time like this where I'd like to still have Carson or Bravo or Al but Harriet is all I've got... just Harriet.
